  1. It is not better than the ways you mentioned. It just is another avenue for hearing about others viewpoints, interests, etc. I feel that hobbies can be enjoyed in many ways including all those that you listed. It may also open up geocaching to others who have not been exposed to the joys of finding a cache.
  2. I am making the assumption that podcasts have been made on more than one site. There are many different kinds of podcasts out there. So, I fail to see how I could get a "yellow card" for just mentioning something that I enjoy and adds to my insight on geocaching.
  3. I would not consider my views on this topic as spam....i really do find it interesting:)
  4. I have been exploring podcasts on geocaching and have found it very interesting. The nice part about this is that you can download a radio program and listen to it on your mp3 player, cd, or your computer whenever you want.
  5. No.....I prefer to enjoy pool, air conditioning or reading geoposts for a while.
  6. When responding to this topic, I am reminded on how I got interesested in geocaching. It was through reading a short article in Scientific American. So, why not buy a subscription to a magazine like Geocaching Today and donate it to your public library. Presentations can also be made to local community groups like Rotary, Kiwanis, etc. These groups are always interested in new programs because their meeting are held on a weekly basis. Just a few ideas:)
  7. I hid a cache over three months ago. It was my first. It had been over three months since I placed it. Took a lot of time and effort to do this. Today it was found. This is a bit long and I was beginning to become concerned. It was placed in a state park where there is a small fee. Could that have been the reason why it took so long? Or possibly it was placed in a rural area not really close to a city of any size that took so long for FTF? But, regardless, I am very pleased that cache was located by someone
  8. Are GPS's now on cell phones? And when they become common, what kind of impact do you think it may have on geocaching..negative, positive, or neutral.
  9. I stayed in Polk County during the storm and just returned to Hardee. We had sustained winds, not too fast, and some rain. Will have to check out the caches near us.
  10. Now with Frances coming I wonder how other geocachers are doing?
  11. Thanks to all of you for your responses. One's health and family are most important to us all. Things can be replaced. Friends, work, and our daily routnine give us a sense of getting back into the mainstream of things. Feeling connected and encouraged through forums such as this help us all in a feeling of connectiveness. The hurricane graphic is a wonderful idea. Shows a lot of creativity and sort of reinforces the idea of staying out the course and rebuilding. I must also let you all know that we in the hurricane impacted areas really do appreciate all the volunteers that have come to us and helped so many ways. Thanks to all for assisting and for thinking of us.

  13. I am feeling kinda bummed out. I made it through Charley in rural Hardee County Florida. I wonder if the few caches in Hardee are still there. Not really sure if this is an appropriate topic. I know what it is to have a tree fall on my training center for adults with disabilites. But we are making it through. I had previously been training some of our clients in the art of geocaching and using the GPS. I guess it is time to get back to trying caching again. But when I look around at the destruction in Zolfo Springs and Wauchula, I wonder what is important and what is not. Thanks for letting me vent a little. I am thankful to have survived with my home intact. Mike
  14. S&G....thanks for the prompt reply. I have reviewed the specifics of the website you noted. Still, I am unable to have my gps communicate with my computer. This is frustrating. If anyone out there has a suggestions as to what I can try, feel free to let me know. Mike
  15. I am also having difficulty in sending a waypoint to my GPS. I have a Megallan Sportrak Pro GPS. I have downloaded a waypoing of a cache I would like to find. I have configured my GPS according to the EasyGPS instructions. I have placed my cable into the proper port on the computer. I have then attempted to send the waypoint to the GPS using the EasyGPS software. All I get is an error code...""No data was received from the GPS (Error #22). It seems as if the computer is not communicating with the GPS, but I cannot figure out what to do. Thanks for any assitance you may offer.
  16. Bought mine in March, 2004. No cracks to report and don't expect any! Works wonderfully well. I have a love/hate relationship with this sport.....love the searching and outdoors aspects/have a hard time finding those caches.
  17. Bought mine March, 2004. No cracks and don't expect any. Works wonderfully well. Now if I can only get the operator of the gps (me:) to improve his skills at finding those darn caches. This is a sport that I have a love/hate relationship with. Love the searching, hate not finding many...lol. I assume this will improve with time.
  18. Gee....this was my first post. Wonder what it was for?
  19. If I have a DNF, is it still ok to uplload a few photos?
