  1. My first geocache took a little over a week. My second one took two hours. I would just wait.
  2. Good to know. I appreciate the feedback. I guess a follow-up question is - when does the challenge cache find count as "found"? Is it the exact day you start meeting the requirements, the day you sign it, or the day you log it?
  3. I started geocaching daily about a month ago. I’m currently a university student full time in a fairly demanding program so I can sneak in around an hour or two each day maximum for geocaching. I can use public transportation during the school year but I do not have access to my own vehicle. I was thinking about the feasibility of reaching a 366 day streak to eventually fulfil a couple challenge caches, but I think it would get quite difficult but probably still be doable. This summer, there’s a good chance that based on my availability I could get to the point where I qualify for a couple dozen various challenge caches. The question is, would it be against the spirit of a streak challenge to sign these challenge caches ahead of time (as allowed) and then use these caches as a “bank” of sorts to log on days where I’m incredibly swamped throughout the year? I would personally be comfortable counting this as legitimate, but I was wondering if this is a faux pas in the community. What are your thoughts?
  4. Yeah, this kind of drives me nuts. The challenge says it’s “all about how many geocaches you find in a month” but it’s a couple days short of a month, so statistics aren’t really a super great way to check. Why not have caches from April 1 and 2 count too?
  5. I think “whole year” would be comparing all of 2023 so far (January 1 2023 - March 30 2023) vs all of 2022 (January 1 2022 - December 31 2022), whereas “January 1st until today” would be comparing January 1 2023 - March 30 2023 to January 1 2022 to March 30 2022. At least, that’s how I would interpret it. Also, as far as Canada goes, project-gc is showing declines so far in 2023 compared to 2022. I wonder if it will continue into the summer.
  6. This thought crossed my mind the other day. I got into geocaching in 2017, but even since then, I’ve noticed there are generally fewer new caches in my area, though the Pandemic seems to have boosted it somewhat. I would say there has been a decrease in popularity but the extent to which that is true is debatable. One factor I have to wonder about is whether the rise of micros and nanos discourage new cachers. In my experience, those are the least fun type of geocache for those who aren’t already in the hobby to look for and find. But, it might not have much of an effect either. My experience is merely anecdotal.
