  1. Interesting. My Maha manual recommends 0.5C I wonder why they are different.
  2. Blindly using one charge current for all batteries (of a specific physical size) is the wrong approach. Charging current should be about 0.5*total capacity.
  3. I don't know if long caching sessions are the norm or not. My guess would be not. In that case, the iPhone would be handy to whip out as you are driving home from errands to do a little caching with the kids (I always have my phone with me. I don't always have my GPS). I had not thought of using it like this. Nice idea. I look forward to seeing your application. -4B
  4. My reservations about using the iPhone: 1 )Will the GPS/Google maps work when you don't have an AT&T cellular signal? 2) Up to 5 to 6 hours 3G internet usage time may not be sufficient. 2a) You need a fully charged unit before you go. Any phone calls and roaming during the caching session will detract from the maximum internet usage time. 2b) Do you need constant internet connectivity to use the google maps or are they cached? 3) Battery is not replaceable. Once the phone goes dead, you have to go home...unless you have another GPS with you....which sort of defeats the purpose. I will stick with my Garmin Colorado.
  5. You either have a really bad Colorado or non-standard V. My Colorado is way better for geocaching and driving than my V. Way better.

  7. Yep. Li-Ion batteries are highly explosive. Care must be taken so the terminals do not short. Even one battery by itself can be dangerous. If metal coins or keys touch the terminals, you can have an explosion. Check this video out. Watch the battery baloon up in slow motion.
  8. I did a three hour mountain bike ride this weekend. I have auto calibration turned on. The course was out and back with about 4,000 feet of elevation gain/loss. The finish elevation was 112 feet higher than the starting elevation. Did this happen because I did not calibrate my starting elevation and the auto calibration "fixed" this as I was riding or is this expected error for this amount of elevation change? You can see the data here: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5763206#
  9. This was very confusing to me as well. The way I was able to get it to work was to uncheck the queries after they had been checked for about 15 minutes. The queries were then emailed to me.
  10. I agree. I difference of 2 to 3 feet is not worth it. After all, we are not trying to land a plane with these things.
  11. I just ordered mine directly from Garmin. We will see what happens. I hope I get the upgrade.
  12. I can guarantee this will happen eventually. About a year after those are released, there will be new ones with more features as well.
  13. I received mine about a month ago. It fit perfectly.
  14. The 1G number I was referring to is the total unused space available on the unit. I had no idea there was an additional limit with regards to maps. Thanks for the info. -Keith
  15. If that is the case, why do I hear "don't load your maps directly onto the colorado" or "Sounds like you might have accidentally loaded your City Navigator maps onto the GPS" and other related comments? I am confused. I believe I am missing a piece to this puzzle.
  16. Excuse my ignorance, but are we not supposed to upload the city navigator maps to the GPS unit? With about 1G of available memory, I thought this was OK? I was able to put my old City Select 4.01 maps on my Colorado 400t just fine. -Keith
  17. I don't see anything about 2008 or 2009 at the Garmin website. If I purchase this: MapSource City Navigator North America NT For NT compatible units only Garmin Part Number: 010-10816-00 U.S. List Price: $99.99 (for domestic US market only) Do I get the 2008 or 2009 Version?
  18. My last unit is also a keeper. It took a month to get a replacement because Garmin had sent their whole stock back for a hardware re-work. I am pretty confident the newer units coming directly from Garmin are solid.
  19. My good unit was above 18Z014600 My bad unit was below 18Z004100
  20. * Hiking * Geocaching * Automobile Navigation * Riding routes with my bike and using the track to create a course for my Computrainer. I can then ride the course anytime I want (in my garage).
  21. My first unit would not perform very well with NiMH batteries. I sent it back and it took over a month to get a new unit. Garmin said they had to send their entire stock back to manufacturing to be re-worked. The new replacement unit I received is so much better. It looks like Garmin recognized they had a class issue with the hardware and have done something about it. Although, my single experience is not much of a data point. -4B
  22. Critter, that is way off-topic. The thread is about NiMH batteries and marrying your cousin. Focus!
  23. Wow! This is nice to know. I will definitely buy the City Navigator software.
  24. This is how I do it. I have never seen it explained how this works (even the link to the FAQ's). If I want a PQ to run, I check today's box, wait a little bit and uncheck it. That seems to kick off the email.
