  1. I will be in Ireland this year and would like to crack in a few Caches. What software topo are you using for England and Ireland? I live in the states and have a Garmin 60c.
  2. You cant beak the Mountainsmith Cairn The Cairn The water bottle holders make a perfect gps holder, easily reached by one hand, and maintians good sat. coverage. Inside it has a paded pocket for your point and shoot digital camera. The pack is also big enough to carry your raincoat and snacks.
  3. Thats what happens when you post quickly, You leave out the important stuff. I am looking for all types of injuries, twisted ankle, cuts from brambles, strained back, Chest Pain, Asthma attacks, insect stings. etc etc. Once I have the initial questions asked, I will conduct 6 and 12 month follow up. It could be that the minor twisted ankle ended up being more. I am trying to see if there are any common threads or profiles. i.e a Lone, 37 year old male, with 38 cache experience, and a medical history of..... is more likely to have.......On days when its raining, looking for a 3/5 multi cache. Get the drift? This type of research is common in sports. However, unlike say skiing, its hard to get data from one or two hospitals. The nature of Geocaching lends itself to lone or pair participants ALL OVER america. Also, I am in no way saying that Geocaching is bad for your health. Like ALL sports, the most dangerous thing you do is driving to take part in your sport.
  4. I am considering writing a paper on the type of injuries sustained during Geocaching. Have you had one? Would you be willing to answer questions about it? I want to see if there is any common factors involved that will help us identify and prevent common injuries. If you are willing to participate, please email me with just your email address. If I get enough responses, I will then forward a questionaire. You can post a quick reply to the board so as to keep the post current( that would help me catch more readers) You can email me at geomed2004@hotmail.com I have set this account up just for the paper, If you have any questions please feel free to email me at my geocache account. It goes without saying that I will respect your privacy. Thank you in advance
  5. Just got back from a weeks skiing. they were pushing this quite hard. http://www.slopetracker.com/ However, from what I heard, it seems the units could not see too well through the trees. Quite a few people were complaining. At $25 a day I can se why. They were using the Garmin Geko 201.
  6. Got this back from them Kudos for the quick reply
  7. emailed them. Lets see what comes back.
  8. Is anybody using the National Geographic state topo with their 60C. I dont see the 60C in the compatibility list.
  9. In havaing a "There and Back" Travel Bug race. Let a bug go in your nearest cache. The mission would be to get to the opposite cache, where you would pick it up have photo taken with it then send it back. I am in the states so it might make for an interesting race.
  10. Is there a day for world Geocaching day. It seems to me that there seems to be a day for everything else.
  11. Yep I fixed it. Changed it back to the old email, then re submitted the new. Bingo.fixed Thanks for the reply
  12. I am a premium member with an already validated account. However, I changed my email address recently. after I did it it asked me to validate my account. I click on the "send email" link but it doesnt send me one. I can no longer download .loc files. Anybody help?
  13. Yes to all. However. 3) Is your name and contact information on the outside? is a good point. But As a former street Paramedic and now Manager. I have and do see more than my fair share of itchy 911 calls. I suppose this is why I posted the questions.
  14. I was about to purchase a few ammunition cans for new Caches, when I thought about possible circumstances. In these troubled times-read the new PC freindly statement that means-with nut jobs flying around the place, is it wise to leave an ammo can, even one clearly marked, out in the wild?
  15. If money was no objection, and you were to set 10 Geocaches anywhere in the world. Where would they be? Here is my list in no order. Some places I have been to, sadly Geocaching wasnt around when I went. 1 Angkor Watt http://www.jcrows.com/AngkorWatt/angkorwatt.html 2 Underwater Cache at Truk Lagoon http://www.truk-lagoon-dive.com/ 3 Phantom Ranch Grand Canyon http://www.phantomranch.com/ 4 South Georgia???? http://www.btinternet.com/~sa_sa/south_geo...th_georgia.html 5 Easter Island http://www.mysteriousplaces.com/Easter_Island/ 6 Skydive to get your cache at Angel Falls http://www.aerialfocus.com/angelfalls.html 7 On top of Ayers Rock http://www.crystalinks.com/ayersrock.html 6 Mount Batur http://obviousreason.typepad.com/photos/bali/dsc02534.html 7 Taj Mahal http://www.taj-mahal.net/ 8 Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu http://www.travelcentre.com.au/travel/aust...dd_nz_facts.htm 9 On top of the tallest tower in San Gimignano http://www.sangimignano.com/sghomei.htm 10 On top of Half Dome http://www.halfdomecam.com/ I could keep on going...... I know that some people are against Vacation Caches, but its better that carving, writing your name on the wall as I have seen all to often.
  16. I would welcome peoples experience with National Geographic and DeLorme http://www.delorme.com/topousa/default.asp http://maps.nationalgeographic.com/topo/state.cfm I have 2 DeLorme map books of Indiana and Michigan. They have tons of info on campsites, kayaks, trails etc. Both products are the same price.
  17. Ok, very unscientific I know, but here is my quick impression of the 60c Reception: I can get a good sat fix in my house with no problem, I can also get perfect fix's in my car. Out in the open it has been perfect. Battery. I am using Energizer NiMH recharge. With WAAS on and in bat. saver mode. I can use it all day without anyproblem. Screen. clear and with the backlight on very easy to read. Buttons. Dont like the buttons on the bottom. I can see me droping the thing trying to use it onehanded. Interface. quite intuative. took me awhile though to work out a few things. But if you are experienced with more of the recent models of GPSr then you should have no problem. Overall. Happy. Lets see how it handles the Kayak season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Thanks Team Runner. I was close. I didnt check the Geocache mode.
  19. I am having trouble finding an application that see's USB. All the apps I have used only see serial ports. How are people uploading to the 60c. (its probably obvious as the HUGE nose on my face)
  20. I searched for all previous posts but could not fnd this. Fat lot of good I am!!! thanks for the reply.
