  1. Hi Stuey, Where about is your TB now ??? I'm in Adelaide and will be traveling to Melbourne to get the flight out. so if its in between or at any of those cities then i could grab it for you.
  2. Hi all Long time since i've posted on the forum but i have some news and would like your views. I'm currently in Australia but will be arriving back in the Uk at the end of this month. Some of the guys over here are going to be getting a travel bug together and i'm gonna bring a box full back with me. so look for them being set free across the country at the begining of March. There will soon be a web page going up with details of the "Rules" etc .... but basically first back to Australia wins Dean
  3. I'm not sure if this has been talked about before but here goes anyway. On the subject of landmark caches (e.g. 100, 200, 300, and so on) where they memorable ones ? For instance my 100th cache was at the top of Ayres Rock (Uluru). Yes, It was a virtual but the climb and the sence of achivement when reaching the top was amazing. it was about 35+.C that day and it made it hard. I made sure I took plenty of pictures. Check out the cache. Ayers Rock Sumit Deanread.com Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  4. There was a case of something similar where my dad lives in Adelaide. Australia. A certain guy who will be left un-named kept logging caches as found and using silly things like "found a piece of plastic that looked cache like" he even logged a cache as found when the owner had removed it 5 days before :-) Sure enough when my father checked the log book in a few of his caches the guys log was not in the book but was on the site Its a game, its not just the finding that counts. Some people do take it to serioulsy and focus more on how many they can find rather than just enjoying their surroundings. Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  5. Well done, 300 since march is seriously good going. I must get my finger out and do some more quickly. I think i've found the least out of all that started caching in 2001 !!!! can anyone claim a worse score than 130 since Aug 2001 ? Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  6. I'd never thought about the security risk's really. I'm screwed if anyone decided to stalk me or steal from me. A few items of personal info are all they would need and its they're displayed on my website so its an open book really :-) My house mate is ugly enough to scare anyone away, even women :-) Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  7. I'm in. I'm also on the edge of the car park, sorry M1 :-) Chesterfield area. Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  8. quote: Originally posted by Seasider:My favourite is Fossil Transfer by Kevin. Kevin was economical with the terrain rating... I agree with seasider and slytherin, i'll go with this one too. My Dad (kevin) is a real pain in the arse when it comes to rating caches :-) a 3 is a 5 and so on..... Some of his caches i did when i was over in Australia are just silly. Check this one out, All Day Sucker I'm sorry to say i failed but it is real hard trying to look at the gps whilst clinging on for dear life above a 200ft drop :-) Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  9. Well done Moss . I think i'm going to be the last of the 2001 starters to reach the hallowed 100 . everyone else who started back then has already got it . :-( oh well only 6 to go . Tip of the day : Always be nice to your mother and don't eat yellow snow :-)
  10. Hi all. I'm currently in Australia on a Family/caching holiday, I'm in Adelaide at the moment and it has a very lively geocaching scene. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in seeing the sights and doing a few caches as well. With that topic in mind I have a few questions to start of a topic. 1. Could any one recommend a place to go camping in the uk that has a reasonable amount of caches near bye? Suitable for a weekend break perhaps. 2. Could anyone recommend a foreign destination that is highly cached? As I will be returning home soon (26/4/03) and the "summer" is nearly upon us, it would be great to get away for a few days and do a spot of caching at the same time. Thanks Guys . 11. Hi everyone . I know what morse is talking about as i've visited 2 of his caches that have gone bye bye's . i'm not from the town where they were hidden so i could'nt say if kids play there often or not. I was the first person to attempt the "precisly bolsover" cache in both the first and second hidding places , I thought that the 2nd cache was in a good spot and well hidden. I didn't attempt the "gd trig" cache so I cant comment. Don't give in morse . I'm in australia at the moment but when i get back I will start hidding some more to keep us derbyshire caches amused . p.s. my spelling is terrible toooooo :-)
  12. Hi guys , The other day I was sent the same watch list message 3 times. Wierd

  15. I'm back in action . I must say , over the last 3 months my life has been empty . There has been little activity in my neck of the woods (derbyshire) . it must just be the weather . Have all the cachers emigrated :-) ?. some of you may remember that i was having problems with my Magellen gps 320 . I should be recieving my new one tomorrow (8th oct) so i will be back on the hunt . My webpage is finally up . http://www.deanread.com

  18. I didn't realise that there had been one already . I've had a bit of interest in the group but if it does'nt do anything much in a month or 2 then i will perhaps close it . There are plenty of sections on these forums where you can get almost any message across but . I know people were'nt keen on cache advertising in the forums so i thought that this idea may be a simple way round that . P.S. i didnt set out to offend any one , for example . taking discusion away from the forums . i think that the forums a both very usefull and informative .
  19. We Currently have only 10 or so people who have joined the group . to make it more interesting we need more :-) Use the links on the above Post
  20. We may allready have one , but I thought i'd just start this one up . so if you have any caching related news , you want to advertise a new cache or you just want to say hi goto - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ukgeocachers if you want to Post message:ukgeocachers@yahoogroups.com or you want to Subscribe :ukgeocachers-subscribe@yahoogroups.com [This message was edited by ukdean on July 28, 2002 at 05:52 AM.] [This message was edited by ukdean on July 28, 2002 at 05:53 AM.]
  21. Just a quick message I had a reply from magellan and they gave me the number of a company called Comar in the isle of wight . I rang them and they said even though my unit is under australian warranty they will exchange it for me F.O.C. Which is good I was out caching the other day and i got a 145mile error . and today it went absolutly mental all day . lets hope my new unit doesn't do this :-)
  22. I use a digital Kodak DC3200 for my cache pics . It cost about £150 about a year ago and it has been great . I dont think I could survive without a digital because of how easy it is to get and edit your photo's . I think I may upgrade to one of the new Kodak with about 3m pixels or something similar though .
  23. When i first turn the GPS on i wait for it to get a fix before setting off . The problem i get doesn't really happen at any specific time that i could say , Sometimes it happens when i'm driving , sometimes when out in the field hunting for caches . and not really when there is bad coverage or tree cover . I would say that i'm quite familiar with it and that i've got it set up right aswell . Using the usuall map datum and co-ord system . I e-mailed magellan about a week ago but still no reply :-( But the only thing i could think of is that , when i first bought the unit while in australia it had the original software on it . and i did'nt experince this problem untill i uploaded the newest version . So it maybe a software fault Thanks for your help
  24. Hi Everyone out there , I own a magellan GPS 320 its about 4 months old and i've had a few problems , the thing is every so often my gps goes crazy ! it pin points me upto 5miles away . it always seems to happen at the wrong moment as well . I've taken this paragraph from the magellan FAQ section on there site :- "Q: What is Selective Availability (SA)? A: SA is an intentionally introduced degradation in the accuracy of civilian GPS by the United States Department of Defense. SA errors can degrade the GPS accuracy up to 100 meters. However, this error is adjustable and random. Typically, errors of 30 meters or more are not unusual. Now that SA has been removed, typical GPS position accuracy is approximately 15 meters (50 feet)." my case seems a bit more extreme than this , is there a fault with my gps ? Does any other magellan user suffer from this ? do any garmin users encounter this ? HELP ME , Its Getting annoying P.S. i bought the thing when on holiday in Australia so it'll be hard to return it :-(
  25. cheers , My dad has a HP handheld and i think his runs windows . is there a specific program that u need to have to download cache pages to the handheld ?
