Jeremy, this sounds like very unfortunate !! You will most propably need cooperation with your Network Connection Provider !! Or what else can you do ?? Unfortunately this is the present state, what will we face in the near future ???

Hi Hedberg, I agree with you, all the way !! My opinion is that there should be some critisism when opening the LCs. For example a username to location, like 'Where's In A Name? (by Crusso)' cache might be more challenging if it has to be a double; you have to find a fellow GC who can log your co-ordinates and you can log his. It would force you to do some investigations. Or, if someone wants to collect pictures of watermill turbines, it is OK, but the one who wants to log the cache needs to present some facts also, like year of manufacture, a year of installation or a year of retirement at least or whatever info that gives us all some valuable information, not just a picture. I would also like see that the cache owner has the responsibility to accept every log. Maybe the point could be that the logs should not be visible before the owner has accepted !!? This may also limit the number of opened LCs !!? PS: I would like to open some LCs, in order to collect some photos, but I would like to see the rules clarified (after, and if LCs will be opened again) !!

YES, pls post 'the rest of the story', this has been a VERY good forum to follow and we still have couple of questions w/o answers. Hope that the still 'cached' info will help us all understand what's going on.

Do you see this is complete already ?? Anyway, posting slowed down ! ?? I assume every GeoCacher should have 'the better' GPSr, LAPTOP, MAP sw...... If he can't get it, he is not the 'real GC' !! Or is he ?? (It does not make any difference if he can spell or not. )

You have propably already considered this, but however; Have you considered relocating the servers ?? There might be a much cheaper connection provider in the world. Today it does not make big difference where the physical server boxes are. More complex, but not impossible would be to have mirror servers on the other side of the globe which could use the cheaper 'night rates' and thus reduce the costs, and btw backup costs also.

Heips, noista etäisyyksistä mainitessani olivat tietty mielessäni lähinnä minulle tutuiksi tulleet paikat, upeat tai muuten mielestäni merkittävät luontokohteet tai kulttuurikohteet ja nimenomaan sellaiset, jotka tunnen hyvin ja olen niin monesti jo kokenut. Kyllä kätköpaikkoja varmasti löytyy lähenpääkin, viitisensataa metriä kotoani saattaisi olla ensimmäinen varmasti monelle mielenkiintoinen vierailukohde melkein maatamme halkovan valtaväylän varrella. Toisaalta, joitakin kätköjä on myös tehty ihan pohjoisimpaan Suomeen, voisikos tämmöisten kohdalla käyttää pikku varoitusta siitä että kätköä ei juurikaan huolleta muiden kuin etsijöiden toimesta. Kaikki paikalle vasiten hakeutuvat voisivat ehkä varautua ainakin kunnollisilla MiniGrip pusseilla pahimpien vahinkojen korjaamiseksi niin että kävijät itsekukin paikkaisivat pikkuvahinkoja eikä kätkö joutuisi kokonaan arkistoon. Kevättalvella, kun perinteisesti nautittava pilkitsemiskausi taas alkaa, uskoisin tekeväni ensimmäisen kätköni minkälie upean järvemme rantaan, nähtäväksi jää minkä. Kuten kaikki voivat kartasta havaita on koko upea Keski-Suomi lähes neitseellistä GEO-aluetta, syynä tietysti harrastajien vajavainen määrä. Toisaalta alueella liikkuu sesonkien aikana melkoisesti matkailijoita joiden jonninjoutavan ajan kuluttamiseksi saattaisi kätköjen haeskelusta olla apua. Samallahan uusia innokkaita kätköilijöitä voi ilmaantua kuin tatteja männä kesänä. Edelleen palaisin tuohon talvikätköjen teemaan ja aloittelijana vieläkin uskoisin että pikku vinkki kätkökuvauksen yhteydessä siitä millainen määrä lumityökalustoa kannattaa ottaa mukaan etsintään, ei varmasti pilaa kenenkään nautintoa. Ennemmin uskoisin että nautintoa parantaa kätkön naamioiminen jollain muulla tavalla kuin piilottamalla se maan alle niin että talvikäyttö on lähinnä hikistä hommoo. Umpihangessa rämpiminen mielestäni pelkästään parantaa kiinnostavuutta, oikein suositun kätkön kohdallahan paikalle kulkee hyvä polku kesät talvet.

Hienoja paikkoja kaikki tyyni ja niitähän Suomessa onneksi kyllä riittää. Tulee mieleeni kuitenkin pari kysymystä: (vai pitäisikö näille avata uusi säie ?) 1. Mitenkäs te konkarit tuon hoitamisvelvollisuuden ymmärrätte ? Riittääkö kätkön tarkkaileminen logeista niinkauan kun logeja riittää ja niiden mukaan kaikki on OK ? Mitäs sitten jos logit ovat 'NOT FOUND' vaikkapa kolme rivissä ? Vai mikäs olisi se kriteeri ? Jos nyt vaikkapa jo täällä Keski-Suomessa etäisyydet alkavat olla huomattavia, puhumattakaan pohjoisesta, alkaa hoitaminen parinkin sadan kilometrin päähän olla ei pelkästään työlästä vaan myös arvokasta touhua. 2. Pitäisikös käydä keskustelua myös paremmin talvikauteen soveltuvien kätköpakkausten tiimoilta joiden sijoittaminen lumirajan yläpuolelle olisi helpompaa ?? Ainakin minun tapauksessani nimenomaan talvikaudelta puuttuu niitä kimmokkeita ulkoiluun johon kätköilemisestä apua haeskelen. Nämä nyt ensin tulivat mieleeni kerratessani lähiseudun kätköpaikkoja, paikkoja ei ainakaan vielä tarvi pitkään miettiä, näkemistä ja kokemista riittää ihan lähelläkin !!

Hi all, I just read all the opinions abowe and evenif I am a newbie GC, I could not hold my fingers to drop some more points. In couple of the appends some people are commenting the hunt for big numbers of found caches; I think this is quite normal behaviour. I used to face this also with another hobby which is ofcourse fishing. Most fishermen have pressure to oversize and over number their success for some time until they normaly find out that the weight or headcount is not the point. I have done that too, and as did I, I think most heal when they grow up, they learn more. So, I think this not too bad, but... On these days we all have to be extreamly carefull every time we connect to the net, there is a growing bunch of people who are spending their effort to cause harm and confusion to who ever they can. This is why I am a bit supprised that GC community has been able to protect these forums well enough. However, stories like 'fraud founds' point out that there are folks ready to try their best to spoil this hobby by just spoiling the records, overloading the log files with fraud records. This is why I think it might be worth trying to suppress it from the beginning when ever clear cases are met !!

Minullakun on edelleen semmoinen käsitys että lähestulkoon kaikki paremmat karttatietokannat ovat MaanMittausLaitoksen hallussa, toistaiseksi. Sieltä niitä saavat tarpeen mukaan imuroida niin kunnat kuin muutkin haukkaat, ja taas rahaa vastaan tiätysti. Tämä lienee joku ikimuistoinen nautinta ajalta jolloin kartoittaminen oli vaivalloista ja kallista kulkemista ja oli se silloin myös toisaalta MMLn monopoli. Tämä siis tietysti koskee Suomenmaata josta enimmäkseen olen kiinnostunut, kyllä rajan takaisen Kainuukin maastokartta toki saattaisi olla näppärä kalavesien tutkimisessa. Sietäisipä tätäkin tutkia kun ehtisi !!

Thänks kaikille apuaan tarjonneille, lisääkin saa toki lähetellä.... Imuroin tuon OziExplorerin Trial-version ja sehän näyttää toimivan melko hyvin, Merikartoista näyttää myös löytyvän synkkaamiseen tarvittavat koordinaatit. Mistähän nyt vielä saisi imuroitua hyvät karttapohjat, haluaisin päästä selvästi GT-karttoja parempaan tarkkuuteen.

Moiks, pitkään, siis parikymmentä vuotta ja siten kait 900000 kotimaista km (!!) olen saanut ajella löytämättä tätä kätköä. Tuntuupa muuten hurjalle laskea, n 45tkm/v ja reipas 20v autoilua etupäässä duunin ja kalastamisen takia ja siitä tuleekin kohta miljoona täyteen !! Kuinkahan paljon on kulunut hyvää, hyödyllistä työ- ja enenkaikkea vapaa-aikaa ? En uskalla edes laskea, olisin varmaan vieläkin nuori mies jos..... Pahoittelen Cupid kohtaloasi ja muistutan että siellä Maijan penkillä aina ja joka kerta jokaisen kannattaa selvästi esittää katuvaa syntistä ja kauhistella sitä että 'mitenkäs ihmeesä tälläinen vahinko voi minulle sattua'; parikin päiväsakkoa tuntuu loppujen lopuksi hyvälle jos ne saa kerjättyä pois siitä maksusta. Toisekseen, jos sattuu toinen vahinko perään, sitten saakin olla pari vuotta tarkkana, kätköjenkin hakeminen jalkapatikassa on kovvoo hommoo. Yritä kestää.....

Heips, this was something I was waiting for. How are you normaly following your Caches if not by following the logs ?? I think three DNFs in a row should wake up the owner, four should mean a quick visit when possible unless someone clears the state by logging a success. Or if you know that it is a especially hard one. I am not sure how this should be taken on wintertime, I assume most Caches are hidden in a 'cave', which normaly will be covered by snow.

Heips taas, tällä kertaa olisin kiinnostunut tietämään mikä on vallalla oleva tapa sijoittaa kätköjen koordinaatit kartalle ?? Ja mille kartalle ?? Siis EI GPS RUUTUUN !! Olen parin viime viikon aikana oppinut että ainakin Maanmittauslaitos on tuskallisen tarkka koordinaattien kanssa ties mistä syystä. Omistan useitakin karttakirjoja joiden tarkkuus ei alkuunkaan riitä, pari CD:llä majailevaa ohjelmaa joiden kanssa ei tule toimeen, sen normaalin käyttöoikeuden MMLn karttapaikkaan mutta mikään ei oikein pelasta korrdinaattien sijoittamisessa kartalle. Kaikenlisäksi vanhanaikaisen suunnistamisen oppineena oliona HALUAN OLLA KARTALLA !! Auttakaapas ystävänpäivän kunniaksi onnetonta hädässä !!! Thränxks !! PS: Vaikka olenkin untuvikko näissä hommissa, parta kasvaa jo kuten kuvasta näkyy!

Hi there all snow lovers, it is the same here in Finland, some 40cm (1,5 feet) soft snow and still I am planning to go out for a search tomorrow. My experience is minor, but what I know for sure is that evenif you are not succesful, you have had a nice trial and alot of fresh air. Keep on going out !! For sunny days!! PS: Pls keep in mind that when the spring comes, especially the hilltops may get VERY SLIPPERY !! I had a 'close to' situation last weekend on top of a cliff.

Jeps, pointti tuossakin kyllä on, jotenkin vain luin tuolta rivien välistä että joku oli huolissaan oivallisen kätkön joutumisesta ns julkisen häväistyksen kohteeksi.

Hi all readers there, I wonder how many of the GCs are really Loging all the 'NOT FOUND' trials they are doing ?? I am a newbie and this might be the reason to place this kind of a question in the Forum. I joined this 'community' 3rd feb 2004, have made my first trial to find a traditional cache and failed, which I think may be quite normal on wintertime in Finland. After that I have been studying the logs more carefully, and I suspect that the GCachers are either not getting up from their beds at all, or are not reporting their NOTFOUNDS at all !! Pls, indicate that I am all the way WRONG !!! PS: The experience with the NOTFOUND Cache was JUST GREAT !! I'll keep on trying.

Moiks, olisikos kaukaa haettu ajatus tehdä uusi kätkö ihan tätä varten ja alunperin suunnitella ja määrittää se arkivoitavaksi sitten jos ohjelma joskus välitetään suurelle kansalle ?? Autenttista !!! Saattaisi jäädä löytämättäkin !! Movie Cache (??) voisi olla etsittävissä ainakin kunnes ohjelma tai filmi on nähty !!

Hi, I do not why but, I am affraid it is not so easy to pay your bills to USA !! They are still paying with checks there, far behind Europe. I have met this several times before with some fishing gear I tried to order. Where did you pick up the account number, Stetson-Harrison method ?? NORDEA seems not to know it !! GC does not give any account nbr !!
