  1. Why I see where you're coming from, I think you've gone slightly overboard on this one. Not every cacher is perfect, and there is no cacher "mold". We come from all walks of life, and thus there will always be people that might ask for this kind of thing, or complain about the premium membership cost. Having a thread to try to spite all of them isn't really going to do anything. Again, I see where you're coming from, but this isn't productive.
  2. Wow what I would have done to of known that out there. It worked, thanks a ton!
  3. Hey Everyone, Had an incident caching this weekend that i'm not really sure how to fix. From the website, I know that there seems to be three different types of coordinate formats: Degrees Minutes Seconds, Degrees and Minutes, and Decimal Degrees. I was attempting to do a multi-cache, but when I got to the first location, it gave me coords in this format: 44.xx.xxx . I'm guessing thats the DMS format? Well my Triton 300 would only allow for the format 44.XXXXXX N/W/S/E etc. Now I am a novice geocacher so maybe I am just missing something about this, but is there a way to change my gps into DMS, or whatever format that mutli-cache was(i.e D.XX.XXX)? I tried to put in the Degrees, then combining the minutes and seconds since I wasn't allowed to enter a second decimal, and it said the next location was about 25 miles north of where I was, and I know that isn't right. Any help would be fantastic! Thanks, Oregoncacher
  4. The counterpoint to this is: Geocaching is a game. Why must we fill it with agendas? It should be enough to go out and find the box. It should not be trying to influence anyone's ideas with any agendas. Yes but wouldn't it be easier to tell people to not seek if you dont agree then to try to regulate the content of every cache there is out there, and every possible geocoin or TB that could have a possible "agenda" out reviewers control? Nope, the choke point is at the reviewers. It is easier to weed out the agendas there than listen to the whining about them later. Also, by getting rid of all agendas, you do away with any need to have a line as to what agendas can be listed and what cannot. Surely, you don't think that any agenda would be acceptable. Pretty sure that seems like the choke point of this entire thread too! Theres gray area with what is an "agenda" as well as debated in this thread. Anyways, i'm not here to make enemies by any means, i'm just trying to point out that trying to weed out agendas, and deciding what constitutes as an agenda could completely be remedied by the global policy I spoke of earlier; "if you dont like it, dont seek it".

  6. In all honestly, some of these posts are absolutely rediculous: QUOTE(Mushtang @ Feb 18 2009, 01:22 PM) "It's still patriotic. " QUOTE(flask @ Feb 18 2009, 01:22 PM) "not to everyone's eyes. i believe that what i consider to be true patriotism and the duty of every countryman is very different than what you consider it to be." Just for the purpose of discussion, I just say if you dont believe(and) or are uncomfortable with the contents/title of the cache, then DONT SEEK IT! Mushtang's idea of patriotism is on track, and I would say very aligned with most us' citizens ideals of patriotism. On top of that, I feel it is on track of the ideals of our founding fathers. This threat is going to go on and on, so maybe it's time to lock it, however, heres my two cents to throw in: Seems like theres so many guidelines that it'd be easier to rob a bank then place a cache somewhere. I'm strongly conservative and i'm sure with the nature of what geocaching is, that i'm in the minority. If I saw a "plant a Bush back in texas" cache, I feel I, or anyone else should have the maturity to decide that just because I or anyone else is seeking this cache, does not mean someone you are condoning the behavior/aligning with the ideals of the cache. If for whatever reason anyone cannot muster the maturity to act in this manner, then simple enough, just dont seek the cache! I mean I would agree generally speaking we want to stray away from social agendas being overly publically expressed in society like it is today, but now adays everyone is so affraid of making someone "feel bad", or "be uncomfortable", we have to regulate everything. Final thoughts? Most cachers are adults, and they should act in that manner. Its like the old saying goes, "If you dont like what they're doing, don't participate". It seems this has been lost somewhere long down the road. Now its more of, "If you dont like it, complain, so they can't do it either". Just my two cents.
  7. Hey guys, So i've been out several times now to place a cache in an area where theres a walkway along the river. I know there are caches in the area, but found spots that were definatly .1 away from any cache. So I thought, "Great!, i'll place one there!". I go out in the pooring rain, walk half a mile to get to it, and place it/get it logged in my gps and do everything placing a cache entails. I get back to my computer at home, and place a cache page. Well it turns out, there are several puzzle caches in the area(where I can't see the actual location of the cache), and they are within the .1 mile radius. I have battled this a few times before, and it makes placing really a task in areas where theres many caches. I may make a suggestion for a future project to test the coords of a cache against the database(by the user), and so that way everyone can know if the spot is taken before they go through the task of making the whole cache page up etc, or maybe even before they get all the way out to the location! I'm not sure if anyone else has battled this, but it got me a bit irritated, Regards, Oregoncacher
  8. In GSAK, when I upload a GPX route, it says there are zero waypoints in each file loaded... am I missing something here?
  9. I know there are caches along the route as I did look on the map on the homepage. I will try out the tool you sent me, so basically, with the GPX file will it upload all the caches in the pocket query onto my GPS, so I can find one thats close that I like and select it?
  10. I have a question about using the "Caches along the Route" page. I have both uploaded my own routes and used ones already made, but when I go to preview, there aren't geocaches along the route... I can query can make a query to show them within a certain distance from the road, but is there a way to show the caches on the route as you go along, like to upload all the routes along your route within a certain distance of the route and just have them all put on your gps with the route file?
  11. One thing I dont get, is actually getting the geocaches. I put the .kml on the website just fine, and make a query for myself. Though, when I use vantage point with my Magellan Triton 300, it uploads the route, but not the caches? Same thing as when I preview it on the site. I don't see any caches along my route(lets say if I wanted ones no more than a mile to the left or right of my route). What am I doing wrong?
  12. In my mind, this reminds me too much of how our government operates. I don't think we should rely on geocaching.com or any of its volunteers to ensure that a cache is hidden safely in regards to electrical boxes or things of such nature. If you are after a cache and believe that the location is unsafe, don't continue to pursue it. Maybe post a little note telling people that there is potential hazard, but whether one thing is safe or even a valid hide(referring to MacHammer's post), is up to the person caching. People are going to have very different views on what is right etc, and debating legitimacy is a never ending cycle... about anything! There are so many caches around theres no way to make sure that everyone of them are in a valid location so really the only thing we can do is hope cacher's use common sense, and possibly report a cache if its deemed to be unsafe for EVERYONE searching. Just my two cents
  13. Just ordered it, thanks a ton guys! I didn't know they had any in stock!
  14. Yeah not to mention that I was about to order it, went and grabbed my wallet out of my car, and no joke when I got back it was sold lol, but I did post on that stickied forum, I really want this thing, hopefully someone will find my post who has one!
  15. Looking for the Wright Brothers Memorial Benchmark coin! Anyone have one forsale? I'll post my post I made about why from another thread: Hey everyone, I'm a newby to geocaching, have only 10 or so under my belt but i'm loving it so far! I am a huge aviation enthusiast and have been since I was young. Right now I am abotu to finish my pilots license, and have recently soloed. I want something to keep with me as i'm flying and completing my training, a keep sake and good luck charm if you will. I am from Eugene, Or, and it would be my perfect way of including my life-long passion, and my newfound one to combine them. I can't find this coin for purchase anywhere. On coinsandpins.com, it states they are out of stock. I was wondering if anyone had one of these they would be willing to sell to me. My goal is to send this from Oregon, all the way to Kittyhawk and back! Anyways, if anyone has one of these or knows where I can purchase, that would be awesome, thanks! -OregonCacher
  16. Wow that was annoying the heck out of me, thanks a ton!
  17. Just like the title says, every thread I look at, the posts are not showing below the initial post of the thread. Instead, they are listed underneath it stacked showing the name of the person who replied, and a very brief showing of their post next to their name. Is there any way to fix this so it displays all of the posts below the thread-starter so I don't have to click and open each reply?

  19. Well its not as much, But I will turn it on in open areas, let it find its 3 Satellites needed, and then it takes me towards the cache, then when i'm about 100 feet away if I turn it off and back on again and go through the process, it will direct me towards a completely different direction, and 2/2 times thats been the correct direction, not the first one
  20. Hey, So I went on two caches tonight after just purchasing this GPS. The GPS worked fine however, I selected the cache I wanted to track to that I had added with Vantage Point, and tracked towards it like normal. I was going towards where it said, but based off of the information I had it seemed like I was going in the wrong direction. I cancelled my route, and re-tracked towards it on my GPS, and it took me a completely different direction that turned out to be the correct one. The cache I just got back from wanted to take me over a river(i'm out in the open), and so I did the same thing as the previous cache. I cancelled the route and re-selected it, and it brought me closer on the side of the river I was on right to the cache. It was night time and raining, would that affect it? Or do I have a defective GPS? I shouldn't have to do this every time i'm searching to get a reliable reading
