Do what I'm doing and wait for Garmin to fix it? there's a thred here about the latest update (v2.86b) disscusing the fixes and current issues. Edit as you were posting as I was typeing: I tried standing with it in the middle of field for an hour and at one point it did lock on, but lost the signal from the EGNOS 5mins later and I havn't had one since. It sits there with all the other satilites on green, endlessly waiting with a larg white bar then gives up after 15 - 20mins and tryes another one. It's still any ware between a few feet to nearly 300ft off

Althougth the site has speeded up, I did notice that when you click the fourm link it pretends to load the page for a few seconds and then just stays where it is as if it has sent you to the new page when it hasn't. Edit: ok it works now and iv'e never seen the site so fast

So when you are walking towards a pont you going to by the routing function, it is supossed to be accurate now since the update? I think the sloth sleeps a lot

Just rememberd. Also when approaching the station and the GPS said I was (I was) down to about 350' 400' from the the distance the distance stated and then started increasing and when I was standing outside the entrance it read 1.1mi from the destination. This also happend on a earlier routing test. Edited: I'm sure they keep moving the keys arround on thid keyorad

Do you think It might be a good idea to send them to Garmin as you did? Edit to add: any ideas as to when the next update might be, maybe aproxametly?

It's your birthday so why not if someone else is paying But it'll probably mean making up for it with extra £££ or $$$ or €€€ Seriously though seems like a good choice I didn't think I would get much use out of the maps and nearly bought a summit - glad I bought a Vista HCX instead.

I noticed that there is some disscussion about the Oregon and track logs started by yogazoo so I thought I'd post these and see what you guys think. The to the right of pin it is pointing to where I enterd the railway station and the track at the bottom is the first platform accrucy 10ft. Track of journy on train: top leftt outward trip, bottom right inward trip, accrucy 60ft Same train journy but showing where the outward track started to mach up with the inward trip (slight signal loss as you can see on the inward trip) accrucy 60ft Taken with Oregon 300 v2.6. Still havn't been able to ge WAAS at all even though my Vista HCX would have it most of the time when it could get a signal. Any thoughts?

Vista HCX won't do true papersless but you can use a PDA for the cache info or there is a good macro for GSAK that wil do it with the ipod. The Oregon or Colorado will do true paperless but more expensive. I think most pepolw would reccomend the Oregon over the Colorado as it is less buggy. I have only just got my Oregon but am likeing the touch screen and paperless as well as the easier to use graphical interface. Appoligies for the quick and snappy reply but just going out for a rumage in some bushes.

When I use the send to gps feature to send cache info to my Oregon 300 (GCHN2B for example) and then look at the info on the Oregon all the info is there inc logs, but it also includes some of the HTML used to created the listing e.g. <B> </B> and <A HREF....>. This desn't happen when I save the GPX file (using the 'GPX eXchange file option') to the Oregon instead of using 'send to gps' Is this just me, is a temp hiccup or a known issue?

I aggree with agenda free geocaching although there are times when I like an idea and think it should be allowed, but an exeption for one thing... etc etc. The question is where is the line just to take what 'KoosKoos' said to the extreem, by placeing a geocache in its self is an agenda prmoting geocaching, and I think everyone agrees that banning all caches for this reason is slightly redicoulus. By placeing them in national parks you are premoting tourism and aspects relating to the enviroment, by placeing one near a lifeboat station you could be seen to be promoting the lifeboats (RNLI) perticualy if pepole used swag from their shop e.g. rubbers, fridge magnets etc even if this wasn't the intention. If you cache is on the coast of England and starts of filled with guide books and travel litriture for Switziland that probably would be an agenda. Is this a gray area or is it just me?

UK Mega Series and Public Transport
Wintonian replied to StanByk's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I got the train up one cold morning and did a few FTF's and found nos. 79 - 86 but cryed off when my hands wanted to drop off. Alton has a 2 per hour serviice from Waterloo via Woking and has connections to guilford change at Aldershot, I think there are busess to South Warnbourgh though not sure how often. I myself go out caching by public transport and I expect it can be done. Some linkys for you: Traveline Stagecoach Bus South West Trains HCC Passenger Transport Group - train and bus guide as well as a map of services serving the county. And if you go in the Spring/ Summer you might have a trip along theWatercress Line preserved railway from Alton Station to Alesford (near Winchester) Don't forget if youre eligable you can use your Freedom Pass as well (after 09:30) on the bus. -
I regualy get this message after about 22:00 GMT which would fit with 15:00 PST. Wandering what the reason is?

You should come over here, 35mm film canisters compleate with pencil stub are all the rage.

A geocache may be found by a muggle. There's no need to throw an "r" on the end. People tend to do that, because of the word "mugger". But there is no "muggler". It's just "muggle". Although considering what happerns to caches sometimes, some could possibly be considerd 'muggler's'

Lol, thanks Your welcome.

Looking to buy an Oregon 300 - got a few Q's!
Wintonian replied to Telkman's topic in GPS technology and devices
Hi, quite new myself and from Winchester. I am seriously considering upgrading from my Vista HCX to the oregon 300, mainly for the ease of paperless andbetter screen res along with the biger size screen. Basemaps contain only large bodys of water i.e. Lake Windermere and major roads i.e. M and trunk A roads. The Oregon 300 was £242 at Amazon a couple of days ago, (their garmin store) and on a hunt round the net I only found it cheaper in one place and that was by £3. I usually find them one of the cheapest if not the cheapest place to go for this sort of thing. p.s - welcome to what is quickly becoming an addiction for me. Edited rubish formatting. -

I use a 32" screen and personaly I think the map is fine, I can increase or decrease the map size - It seems to suit my needs. Though a problem I do have with it is that it takes far to long to decide if it's going to reach the 500 cache limit or not and display (or not) the caches within the selected area. Edit: vewing caches in google earth is usefull for exploring a larger area

Is there a reason why I regualy recive the error messege "to many connections" when trying to access the fourms?
