  1. I usually just use the GPS with no maps cos it is so old there are no more maps for it, and then just wing it. Sometimes I use the phone for paperless if I am going to do more than one.
  2. I have had a 62s for a while now and really do not like it. It wonders all over the place. I really wish it was better 'cos I want to like it but have found it to really be useless. I have gone back to using my Meridian Color.
  3. I updated mine and it seems fine. Still a slight sticky issue but nothing near as bad as it was.
  4. Those Meridians are still the best. I, too, bought a 62s and am desparately trying to like it. I am thinking of purchasing a few Meridians for backup
  5. When it went to over R1 per litre in South Africa, I got a job with Shell travelling around the country setting the bowsers back to 50c and then explaining to the attendants how to do the conversion. The bowsers did not have the capacity to charge over 99c / litre. It was an awesome job
  6. Wow that's quite a bit Here in Oz we pay about $1.60 a litre for diesel And about $1.50 for Unleaded 98 Gas prices don't affect the caching as the company pays for gas Kings Creek Station, NT
  7. How much would you pay for 64.4 litres of diesel 1/3 of a tank
  8. I have the Meridian Color and a Garmin 62s. I absolutely agree with you. I am planning a 25 day train trip, right now the MeriCol is getting prepared although I am thinking of taking the 62s along as a backup unit if weight allows.
  9. Our prices are US$6.40 per gallon. The only thing affecting my caching is the distance to the nearest cache, approximately 500 miles. My next caching trip is hopefully going to be 25 days in Russia.
  10. And that's what not many people get. You can put, literally 100 000's of caches on a Meridian. It is not about visiting them all, it is about having them if you need them. When doing long trips in remote locations with not even a phone line let alone internet it is extremely handy, especially if there are no roads or you do not know where you are going to be exactly. Having seperate SD cards is a pain and you stand the risk of losing them. On 1 128MB card I have maps for all of Switzerland, Australia, England and some maps left over from Canada, I also am able to load caches for all the areas I am going to go to.
  11. Not to stray too far off topic, but, Magellan should never have stopped making them. They should have just ironed out a few of the bugs and improved processor speed as it became available. Best units ever
  12. [can of worms] That really irritates me. I used to, and now do again, use a MeriCol (Magellan Meridian Color). It has a limit of 200 waypoints, BUT you can have as many files of 200 waypoints each on the card and then load and unload then as you need. 200 is a bit limiting but my next holiday is going to be over 6 weeks 2000 caches just does not cut it either. Why do the manufacturers assume that you want to load every cache on the card, this really slows booting the unit which is not that quick in the first place. [/can of worms]
  13. Used to be a time you got paid to be a beta tester.
  14. Amen brother. Magellan should just have fixed a few quirks with these instead of going off and losing all those customers.
  15. Yeah, I got some choice words for you too. Guess what ? Geocaching is not the only thing people use gprs for. I can guarantee that I have used mine more and for more varied applications that you ever will. I have used a MeriCol for over 7 years, it has the "slingshot" BUT it is predictable. I recently acquired a 62s, initially I thought it was absolute garbage but decided that it was more to do with inexperience in using the device than the device itself. After now using it for a few weeks and having discovered the "sticky" effect I am returning to the MeriCol. The "sticky" effect is just not predictable which can really be annoying when some ones life depends on it. Well I am not really giving up on the 62s it has some really neat features.
  16. Not a valid argument. I have 400 users who access 15 different machines with a single username and password. I can check off the remember me box and not have to do it but that opens up an avenue to all sorts of abuse when others use my machine.
  17. This may have been discussed previously but my searching capabilities are somewhat limited. Could someone please tell me why we can't have "single sign on". IE. when I log in to Geocaching.com I then have to also log in to the forums, shouldn't there at least be an option that says something like "Also log in to forums" ?
  18. Denial is not a useful step in the healing process. I am not in denial. In fact I have never even been to Egypt. So there
  19. WOW. This opens up a whole can of worms. I have never used my personal information on the internet, I started using BBS in the 80's and, as stated, never reveal personal information. Yes, you can deduce what town I live in (unfortunately there are no other cities for about 1600KM), you can deduce where I have been, but that is it. Not even my facebook account has any personal information. I am curious as to the methods you employed to discover this stalking. THEN, would not you logging in every day and checking out their profile to see if they have logged in and what they are upto constitute you also stalking them ? Just curious.
  20. Strange, I was looking at these units or the New Magellan series. Reading these posts I have come to 2 conclusions: 1) Looks like I will not be purchasing a new unit just yet. My current is a Meridian Color. 2) The symptoms seem suspiciously like static degradation. Almost as if the people assembling the units are not wearing anti-static bands.
  21. I have one of those accounts but think it will be similar to Wave or whatever it was. Basically just another facebook.
  22. MEMBERSHIP SPAM, no....no....no that's when you sign up for navica.....never mind
  23. The Kindle can aid in your paperless quest. You can mark the cache as found in the notes on your GPSr (At least I can on my 6 year old MeriCol) and then log them when you get to a computer. You could even take a photo of the note you leave in the log book as a reminder of what you wrote. I have done and still do all these things. These methods do not use paper, therefore are paperless. I do not own a kindle but can one not write notes on it, I know there are some that have the ability. The new kindle has an experimental web browser, Twitter and Facebook integration, roll on Kindle GC Edition Geocaching can never be paperless as long as you have to sign the log book.
  24. You guys don't get it 1000 milestone is a kilo milestone the next one would have to be 1 000 000 or a mega milestone. 2000 wouls be a 2 kilo milestone.
  25. If I am going on a trip I usually go to the souvenir shop and buy 15 - 20 $5.00 items to place in caches. Any left overs go in local caches when I get a chance.
