  1. I have to admit that I would definitely pass on a 2.5/3. Also this does not help from the park rules. The other cache near there specifically says he got permission for people to bushwhack to that cache. I did get permission to place it, didn't need permission for bushwacking because it's rock! I didn't mention the permission in the info, but the reviewer notated it when it was published.
  2. There are two parts to this park; trees and rock. My hide is on the rock side. There is no vegetation in this area. People who know the park will know where it's at if they read my info cuz I said it wasn't far from the road. People who don't will know when they get there as it's off to the left of the entrance and not toward the back, where the trails and woods are.
  3. OMG!! The only thing we, my dog and I, have encountered are deer, squirrels and looked in a quiet area where I felt I was surrounded by who knows what with all the creaking and crashing in the woods. It was probably just squirrels dropping acorns, but it had me looking around!
  4. Newbie question: You don't lose your find when your log is deleted, do you?
  5. Yes, SHE lives in Amish Country, and I used that to define my region for any other Ohio cachers out there. The bigger Amish settlement is in Holmes County, if you're at all interested. To another poster, as I said in my description, it's meant for older kids like my 11 year old son and this state park actually is more rocky than tree covered. The other caches hidden are at the back with dirt trails and trees, mine is in the front with big boulders. I think my hint was pretty evident, but that's prob. what most hiders say and I sometimes don't understand the hints given. I know it'll be found eventually, it is fall and the weather isn't the best for walking on rocks. This park is very popular with families of older kids (not safe for toddlers) as I am there a lot with my own and the dog. I had been reading posts of other people's first hides and time between published and FTF's and it just got me sighing about mine. Thanks to The White Urkel who said he'd take his 10yr old for the FTF because that's what I'm hoping for!
  6. Oh, you're mean! LOL Sorry, OP (Opening Poster), I have no idea what that means. Where did you see it/how was it used?
  7. Thanks, guys. Nelson Ledges has one traditional, one multi and one earth cache. I failed with the earth cache, but found the others. It has been kind of cold and rainy here, but it was beautiful today and will be through Thursday. It's a nice place to hike and you can bring a dog...just didn't know it would take this long! I went with a film canister because my son had this slug geo coin that won't fit in anything smaller and I want this micro to have something in there to trade so if a kid finds it, he'll think micro's aren't so bad after all. But ya can't put a log and a trade item in a micro, so I put the log in a plastic bag outside of the film canister and put both in a Ziploc bag with a geocache sticker on the outside. I want this to be a fun micro for kids...are their micro containers as wide as a quarter? This match safe that was mentioned...will that fit a quarter? Shame, shame on me for spelling camouflage wrong! Where's the spell checker! That needs to be the next new feature!
  8. I suspect that you are going to be disappointed in the quality of PM caches. Other than the need to be a PM to see and log the cache, and there are ways around that, there is no real difference between PMO caches and the rest. This is true, so don't get your hopes up along those lines. The rest of the PM choice of membership is still worth it! I think it all depends on the CO. Maybe he/she visits often to take out any crap and put new stuff in. (That's what I'm hoping for anyway! LOL) Edited cuz I somehow put what I wanted to say in his reply!
  9. Hi all, I hid my first hide, a micro, and it was approved on Oct. 6th. GC1Z6MH No one has found it yet and I'm a little depressed. LOL It's called Find Some Micro Fun for Kids! because my caching partner is 11 years old and he doesn't like micro's. I put in a geocoin and some quarters for the FTF and hope that it's a kid and have asked that a small item that fits in there be left behind to make this micro more fun for the next kid. I'm impressed that people who aren't caching with kids haven't claimed it yet, but sad that people aren't caching with kids! LOL Any input on my cache?
  10. I just saw one today but didn't take a pic. Darn. It was a right turn but the road, completed with a double solid yellow line, ended 10 feet later in rocky sand and a sign said, Road ends in water. I didn't find the cache I was attempting, so next time I'll take a pic.
  11. I think that most road side memorials are disrespectful. Most of the ones I have seen are memorializing stupid teens that where not only ILLEGALLY drinking but compounded their crime by driving. Take it how you will, disrespects smart people by trying to get them to pity the stupid or disrespects the dead by giving people like me a chance to say "That's what you deserve, you moron." Then you have rubbernecking. Would it be appropriate for me to put up a memorial to trees that where destroyed by somebody rubbernecking a memorial a few yards back? I have seen it. Thank you for posting just the pic. I don't think roadside memorials are disprespectful. No matter what the issue was behind the accident, somebody lost someone they loved. If they feel the need to grieve by putting up a roadside memorial, then they need to do that. A memorial to trees destroyed in a car crash in pathetic and was probably a joke.
  12. I paid the $30, it's really not that much compared to the price of the GPS you're probably using. I've only been a PM for like a week or two. I didn't do it till now because I wanted to make sure it was something I was going to keep doing, and you're darn tootin' I am! I'm looking forward to finding my first PM cache because it was created for more, in my opinion, dedicated hunters and I have better swag in mind to leave behind. These ones also won't be stolen by the people out there who enjoy the same walks to the caches we do, but steal them instead of enjoying the idea behind geocaching. Also, you don't just get access to PM only caches. I finally signed up for the benefits before going to visit with family in VA last weekend. If your destination is within 500 miles, you can find caches along your route. I found two in PA, one in MD and three in VA because I am now a proud Premium Member!
  13. IMO, I find that disrespectful, but you can't please everyone all the time. I have been to a cache that was a memorial to a teenager who had been gunned down in N. Michigan while swimming with friends. In the woods a few miles from where she died, a memorial was created and a cache placed behind it. See the link below to a picture of my son with my nieces at the cache site. It has been there for many years now and probably hasn't been vandalized because it is what it is. I have heard about people wanting roadside memorials taken away because it was a distraction and possible hazard to rubber necking drivers. Why not create a real memoriam to someone you know who has died? My mom died of breast cancer a few years back. I've made a cache with a breast cancer theme and a pink ribbon TB. I've been looking, but haven't found the right spot to place it yet. Please scroll down to the very bottom of the linked page. I tried to post a link to the picture itself, but what I'm doing isn't working. http://thecachecheckers.blogspot.com/2009/...-with-snow.html
  14. I agree that at least this time the hunters weren't portrayed as geeks. It should be a woman with her kids, a dog and a garbage bag...me! LOL
  15. I would love to have this kind of cache in my area. I look forward to when I can get out of the house w/o the kids on a weekend. Speaking of that, I'm so bummed I have no one this weekend to stay with my kids cuz there are two new caches in my area. We're not going to attempt them because the creator mentioned it was a long walk and the difficulty is three stars. Since my youngest are 2 and 4, I won't be taking them but I'd be out there by myself in a heart beat!
  16. I've made one hide, but it hasn't been found yet. I think it's because no one in my area caches with kids. I hid a micro because my caching partner is my 11 year old son and he doesn't like micro's because he can't trade anything in one. So, I put a travel coin in there and something else and asked that an older kid find it. It's not an ALR as those are unacceptable now, I just wanted to make it fun for another kid my son's age. It's been posted for about a week now, and no go. It's not a quick cache and dash either. I put it in a park that my son, our dog and I frequent and in some areas it's a hard walk. So that might be against me, too! As it's my first hide, I'm anxious to hear about it as well.
  17. I started off with my oldest son, but he has lost interest and I don't want to push him. He's all for the find, but doesn't like the drive or the walk. My other boys are too young to do anything lengthy and my hubby has no interest. Too bad you don't live in NE Ohio, we could go together! LOL So instead, I cache with my rat terrier, Kit and a garbage bag. If I'm noticed, it's in a good way.
  18. ^ Makes me wonder how many you've hid to forget that you did a hide ^ I LOVE cemetery hides. I can usually make them as quick or slow as I'd like. Mostly I take my time walking around the different markers and pick up garbage along the way. I take my geodog Kit with me on most caches, but for these, she stays in the van.
  19. Oh, my. I'm gonna hijack your thread and say, Then how should I celebrate my 100th?? I'm approaching it and hoping to reach this milestone by my 1 year geocaching anniversary Nov. 9th. I've already done virtuals, multi's and mysteries. There is one Earth Cache I've attempted before, but it involves walking in some water and it's too cold for that now. I considered buying one of those 100 finds coins...but I'm thinking that should be for even more than a 100. As I sit here and think about it, I think I'm going to get my hubby to join me on my 100th find. I know if he'd give it a go that he'd like it. He loves camping, hunting and fishing, I just don't understand why he thinks he won't like geocaching. Anyway - WTG on your 50th! I think it's a number to toast to!
  20. Hi all - I live in Geauga County, near the borders of Geauga, Trumball and Portage. My family is either too young or not interested in geocaching (I have sisters who are, but they live elsewhere). Can any of you point me in a direction of where I can find a possible local caching buddy? I've signed up at gcinohio.org already.
  21. Hi all. I noticed on some profiles there is a page created by World66 that shows a US map and you can choose which states you've visited, or for us, which states we've found caches in. I created my own map, but I'm not finding anywhere in my profile to put the html code. Help? Thank you.
  22. I have that model Magellan and I love it, although the only one I have to compare it to is my TomTom One, which isn't a handheld. OK - I lied. The only thing I don't like about it is, while using the Vantage Pro software, you put the cache info in there, but when transfered to the GPS, the size of the cache doesn't go. I have to manually enter the cache size in the info section, but that's really not a big deal. Just learned about it the hard way when I couldn't remember what the size of the cache I was looking for was. How old is the model? Will he let you play with it first? My unit was close to $400 w/tax. If you can get it for $100, go for it!
  23. The first one I did happened to be the closest one to me...and it was a micro! Not a good way to start! I tried looking for that one again a couple weeks back, and STILL haven't found it! LOL
