The threads on this forum are really great, however the more I read in trying to find the best unit to purchase, the more confused I become. I need something VERY simple to set up and use. I looked at the Garmin 60Csx and the Oregon at my local REI. I like the package price that REI is offering which includes the latest maps. The sales person recommended the Oregon as far as it being the easiest to use, but it is also more expensive. Any thoughts about the easiest unit to buy? Anyone else out there who needs the elementry version and what experience have you had would be appreciated. Thanks, John

We finalized our choice to purchase the Garmin 60 Csx. In order to go paperless do we still need to use some type of PDA device? If so, are there specific models or types that will work better than others? I have read that some GPS devices (ie Oregon) can handle paperless without a PDA, but I am not sure about the 60's ability. Thanks.

Appreciate all the thoughts and advice.... But provokes another question: Are there units that combine the ability to go paperless or is using a separate PDA along with the GPS the way to go. Just wondering what most use.... Thanks.

I am from Pittsburgh.... and new at this as we are just getting started and looking to buy our first unit.

We are just getting started with this and have not yet decided on what unit to purchase. One of the options we are considering is whether to go with a unit that will alow us to go paperless chaching. Is having this ability that helpful or important? How difficult is it to view all of the information on the unit vs. having paper? Looking for some thoughts... Thanks
