MapSource - As of 4th Feb, Garmin has released a new version of their computer software, MapSource (6.15.11) which won't allow OZtopo to be displayed or used on your PC. Symptoms are the maps appear locked: A warning message during startup may be displayed indicating OZtopo V2.1 Roads are locked On the map screen, bottom right hand corner under scale bar "Maps locked" may appear If this occurs, please check the version of MapSource being used, via Help, About MapSource. If its V6.15.10 or later please down grade back to 6.15.7 via these instructions MAC - If you use a MAC you will have to use MapInstall V2.1.0 available from here Oregon V3.30 Firmware - the latest version of Oregon Software, V3.30 onwards again causes problems with OZtopo. 3. Hi wesser26, Sounds interesting How much are you asking for the City Navigator? Cheers Roger
  4. Thanks for the idea kevenh, I used mapsource to open the current GPX file that I had saved to the computer and sent to GPS and it worked a treat, all waypoints returned to the GPS. That was a very easy way to do it!! I paid $225 for Oz Topo map here in Australia and with this latest Garmin upgrade it made it unusable. So it seems you can have an up to date Garmin with no Oz Topo or outdated Garmin software and Oz Topo. I read on the Oz Topo forum that Oz Topo won't work with the latest version of basecamp either. I rang the makers of Oz Topo today and they said they will get back to me, I'll post their reply. Garmin released a Topo map for Australia last year [ it wasn't available when I bought Oz Topo] so I hope this isn't a way to do away with the opposition... Oz Topo! Maybe Oz Topo will send me Garmin Topo lol Thanks for all the help, I have a useable GPS again
  5. Hi, well lucky for me, the perry site was a great help. With updating and then down grading the software I have lost the waypoints that were on my GPS. Before I started, I made a copy of the Garmin folder from the GPS to my computer. Any idea which file contains the waypoints? Any help would be great thanks. cheers Roger
  6. Thanks very much... ecanderson With much relief, I'm back to where I started!! I now have my Topo map back Good on ya, thanks again Roger
  7. Hi all, I'm trying to change back the software on my 400C to ver 3.60 as that is the highest version that will allow me to use Oz Topo maps. I found version 3.50 on the wiki but not version 3.60. If somebody could post a link to the GCD version of 3.60 that would be a great help. Thanks for any help, all the best Roger
  8. Hi A word of warning to users of Oz Topo map in Australia. Don't upgrade to the new GPS software as it's not compatable with 3rd party Oz Topo maps and the Oregon is unable to unlock the map. Time for me to roll back to ver 3.70
  9. Yeah Scott I was a bit concerned! I just formatted the drive as fat and it worked ok. There must be a hidden system partition as the unit retained some settings and stuff that I thought would be gone. But the format rid it of the pesky file I wanted to be rid of I still have the street name issue that lead me to get rid of the gpx file though I have map detail option set to most and zoom etc set to auto but the street names disappear on the map page when the car gathers speed. Tap the screen to go in to pan mode and the street names work fine. A new faster speed micro chip. didn't help, got me buggered! Roger
  10. Hi and thanks WF, I tried your idea and it worked a treat Thanks to everyone for their help and ideas great forum all the best Roger
  11. Hi I got soo close Commander wouldn't delete the file it said it was protected so I tried the command prompt way. I got to the directory and could see the trouble file but couldn't figure out how to type the gibberish symbals into a delete command line. It wouldn't allow me to copy and paste either, which would have been nice. bahhhh

When it has transfered I will endevour to rid the bad file with the total commander. oh how I wish it was fixed ten minutes transfer to go then I will try commander. Thanks again I was really stuck roger
  13. Hi and thanks for the reply. I tried your instructions and managed to delete all the gpx files in the garmin folder bar the file with the strange characters! The dos command thing says..are you sure...and I select y and hit enter and the next line says the filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. All the other gpx files were deleted though. I have tried a master reset and that didn't work either. I'm stuck, any idea's? thanks Roger
  14. Hi, I'm having trouble deleting a file in the garmin / gpx / folder on my oregon 400 c. I want to delete it and instal a backup copy of the folder that I made on the computer when I first got the gps. The reason being I'm having trouble with street names disappearing of the map when in automotive profile. The street names are on the map but when you start to drive the names disappear as the car gathers speed. If I tap the map [pan mode] they reappear, but when I close pan mode and go back to the map they then disappear. Stop the car, they appear, start to drive and they disappear. I reinstalled the map on a new micro sd card but that didn't help. The msg I get when try'n to delete the file is : "cannot delete square symbal s symbal again ; symabal yes: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." Any hints on how to delete this stubbon file would be great. Thanks Roger
  15. Hi. just mark the red pin on the screen and then zoom in to the max allowed and then drag the map to position the then stationary red pin to exactly where you would like to mark the way point. Works really well
  16. aaRR you helped find my problem I changed the colour of the tracks and looked to see if that solved things. I was applying " show on map" to several tracks which are close to each other and can be seen together when zoomed in on the map page. I was then selecting "view map" and looking for the tracks but could only see the one track. I then exited the track manager and tried scrolling the map to the area where the tracks are and I could see all the tracks! Turns out if you select "view map" from the track manager you only get to see that track drawn on the map and not all the other tracks that have been selected to "show on map". Things are good now I thought asking on this forum would sort me out.. and it did. Thanks Roger
  17. Hi all, I have a Oregon 400C and I am wondering if it is possible to view more than one saved track on the map at the same time? I go to track manager and select "view on map" on several saved tracks but only one track appears on the map. I'm in Australia and am using Oz Topo as my map. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Roger
  18. Hi all, went out bush on Sunday with 2.98b installed. Travelled about 140 klm in the car then about a 2 klm walk through light cover scrub. Somewhere along the line... the garmin reverted the profile I was in back to the standard default profile while still retaining my custom profile name. It had changed the background display to the pebbles and had reset map detail from most to normal,[i think it's called] and had changed from meters to feet, changed the menu display order and lost the found cach count. It didn't shutdown and had good lock on birds and good accucary. Very strange, anyone else had this happen? I'll email garmin about it and the debug file. thanks Roger

  22. Hey G'day, Could someone please explain how to update to ver 2.85. I read that it's not available from web updater, so I downloaded the 2.85 file but I'm not too sure how to install it I'd like to be rid of the glitchs that 2.80 has. Thanks for any advice Roger edit I found how to do the update, map redraws a lot quicker and profile change problem is fixed for me fingers crossed all works well incase anyone else wants to know Installation Instructions Download the self-extracting archive file for your Oregon onto your hard drive. Connect your Oregon to a USB port on your PC. Allow your Oregon enter USB mass storage mode. Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file. Follow the instructions provided by the launched update application on your computer.
  23. Thank you g o - cashers, you do some great work for the forum and your www site...cool. Yeah I might go the update I think. I don't have 3D or relief shading available with my Australian topo map, so no loss. I read Garmin is about to release an Australian topo map that does relief shading but I'm not sure about the 3D part so maybe they will fix the bugs by then. Thanks again Roger
  24. Hmmm what to do, to update or not. Does anyone regret doing the update? I'd like the power saver mode and my map [oztopo2.1] won't do 3d anyways. Is it possible to go back to version 2.60 if 2.70 sux? I'm happy with 2.60 really, although I would like the power saver mode. Thanks ... Roger
