  1. You can set up notifications on geocaching.com that will send you an email when a new cache is published. You need to set a separate notification for each cache type you want to be notified of. If you DNF a cache, you can add it to a watchlist, and you will get notification of any activity on that cache. However, I believe you need to set this up on the website, not the app. The official geocaching app is adequate, but not as robust as the website. I use both, and there are other geocaching apps that have more features than the official app. The features you are requesting are part of the website and available to premium members.
  2. They are not likely to be reinstated once archived for lack of maintenance, but you CAN recreate them and create a new cache listing. Pull up the archived cache pages and cut and paste the descriptions, call it REDO, REDUX, Part 2 or something.
  3. This sounds like an intriguing idea, but one that may be very difficult to see actually happen! Here's what I would do: Get your trackables, just a simple dog tag type will do, as what you really need is the code. Attach those dog tags/codes to small figures or items representing you and your GF. Create the trackable page with your love story, and the mission of the two TB's to meet someplace (put the link to both TB pages on each of the two pages so people can see the travels and locations of both TB's) and perhaps travel together once they meet. Create a laminated card or other attachment that tells the story as well to travel with the TB tags, so someone picking it up will be immediately aware of the mission and goal. Release them - and hope for the best. Try not to be TOO disappointed if they go missing or disappear for long periods of time. And rejoice exceedingly if the goal is accomplished!!
  4. Interesting set of questions! I do enjoy the trackable side game, both sending them out and retrieving to see if I can help accomplish the goal, if there is one. I also like to post photos of the TB's at various locations related to their goals, if I can do that. So, to answer your questions: 1. I like to look at TB goals, and see if I can somehow help them on their way. If they just want to travel I will give them some miles If I can. I will look at the map of where a bug has been, and see if I can add new states/areas. Either way, with a goal or just travel, I don't really have a preference, though ones with a goal sometimes give me more (or less) incentive to pick it up, if I can help it along, or not. 2. I haven't kept any stats, so I really have no idea. I give all my TB's a goal/mission. Some disappear, some travel randomly anyway, some actually stick to their goal! Guess it depends on the cacher who has it, and that will be completely random once it's in the wild. 3. Sometimes, but since you really can't tell until you find the cache if the trackables are actually there, it can be a disappointing venture. More times than not, I hope to find a specific TB in a cache because I CAN help it along on it 's goal, and would really like to have it with me for a bit, only to find the cache with no TB's, or the one specific one I wanted was NOT there. 4. Not necessarily, as I stated in #3, I can't really count on the TB being in the inventory. I'm hopeful, but usually disappointed. Favorite points, lonely caches, some puzzles that have been a challenge for me to solve - those make caches attractive to me. Travel bugs, occasionally, but not so much. 5. I try to move the TB's I carry in a timely way - I do have some that I carry for awhile, but I will contact the TO and tell them WHY I want to carry their bug for an extended period - a trip in a few months that will fulfill a goal, or someplace special I want to take it. I have lost a bagful of TB's (personal ones of mine, and a few others) left on the trunk of a car as I drove off somewhere in the Northeastern US - none have shown up yet, and I contacted all the TO's to tell them of my blunder. They still show in my inventory and I am hopeful, someday they will show up in a cache somewhere! Hubby is the one to put a TB in a pocket someplace and then forget about it, find it months later....but he's getting better! I may be more OCD with TB's than most, but once I drop a TB in a cache, I put it on a watchlist until it's been picked up and dropped at least a couple of times. I know it's out of my hands once I drop it, but I still like to see what happens once it leaves my hands, since I have likely taken photos and told stories of its travels, trying to keep to it's goal and mission if stated. I've become "attached" so to speak! I have a list of current TB's in my geobag, with goals and those that like photo ops so I can grab photos when needed, and then note when/where I drop them so I can do a complete log for the drop. TB's is a fun side game, with the understanding that not all play it the same way. Once you release a TB, whether your own or one you are moving along, you have no control over where it goes or who it ends up with. I still enjoy following their travels on the map, and seeing where my released TB's have been!
  5. This is a nice addition to the Adventure Labs! Though I only have created 2, and I check the page now and then, having a notification sent when someone posts will be a nice reminder of the activity on the labs. Thank you!
  6. I can reproduce this, and saw it on my husband's phone as well. Using Android on a Google Pixel 4a - open the geocaching.com webiste in Chrome browser, then Play>> View Map to go to the Search Map. Zooming in (and sometimes not even then) and then scrolling the map reaults in the map and the icons moving at different speeds (rates, scales) so they are not located on the map in the correct locations. The Browse works as expected. Application version - Chrome 114.0.5735.196 Operating system - Androind 13; Pixel 4a Build/TQ3a.230605.011
  7. Hubby saw the email and then we compared, since we do the majority of our caching together...the biggest difference was in our DNF's logged, because I typically log it when we cache together (2 DNF's for the same search seems redundant to me...). I posted 21 DNF's with 258 finds to date; he posted 0. The other stats were interesting to see laid out as well.
  8. Interesting discussion - and I am all for setting goals. This latest "streak" promo may encourage some to set a streak goal, and DO IT! We set an ambitious goal of finding a cache every day in 2018. Initially, it was fun. Where are we going to go caching today? Along about October, it did become a chore - local caches were found, and we needed to drive out of town, every day unless we were already traveling, and plan the days ahead with a backup just in case one was missing....but the goal to us was important. The goal of filling in that calendar and getting a year of consecutive days caching helped us to keep on caching when we hit that WALL. We could have quit at any time, but we wanted to reach the goal, and the satisfaction of having done that was/is worth the "work" it had become. At least to us, and it doesn't work that way for everyone. That's OK! So we're not going to set a goal to earn these streak souvenirs, but if it helps a new cacher or a ho hum cacher get motivated, it's all good. It may encourage us, or other cachers to hide a few more for people to find. That's good too. Overall, these Wheel Challenges have been encouraging to new cachers, I think - to motivate and give them goals to reach for. And even a couple of challenges to not-so-newbies, like the 100 caches in a month (that we didn't earn, but oh, well! We didn't try!) I'm interested to see what the next one will be...
  9. I'm not going to "avoid" the new wheel challenge, but I will treat it as all the others - if it fits within my normal caching activity, all is good and the souvenirs will show up. If I don't "get 'em all", oh, well! Granted, we have made a small effort to reach 20 days of caching in the 28 days of this month's challenge, but the others we got (or not) with our normal caching activity. I thought we had no chance for the Solstice souvenir, as it was running in conjunction with the 20 days, and we have so few locally we'd have to make a special trip to a new area to get 21 caches in a week and that wasn't in the plans....well, plans changed at the last minute and we ended up driving a carload of geocachers to Cachin' the Bay 2023, a Mega event an hour or so away from us on June 24, and grabbing 30 or so caches on the last day of the Solstice promo, so we overachieved on that one, unexpectedly. Without the Mega, we wouldn't have got that one! We (hubby, geopartner) look at what the challenge entails, and decide if we want to do it or not, and we've already decided we do not want to go for another "streak" - if it happens, we'll get a souvenir, maybe 2.
  10. Log in to Certitudes.org, and tick the box that says My puzzles; Click the GC code for the one you want to edit. (1st screenshot) On the left side is a link to "Edit this solution" (2nd screenshot) - you'll have to enter the information again with the corrections (coordinates or keyword, any hints), but no need to create a new certitudes solution. And the link on your cache page remains the same, so no need to edit anything there.
  11. Been there, done that for 404 days from the end of 2017, all of 2018, and into 2019, and we have no interest in trying to go for 28 days now. It may be a good incentive for newbies, or those who have never done a "streak" to give it a try. For us, not even going to try. If we get any of the 3 it will be because it's what we normally would have done.
  12. I feel the same - I haven't used it yet, though I have seen a couple of the Great Story marked on some logs that I have written. I will not miss it if it disappears, as i pretty much ignore it now.
  13. We have found a couple of "Fastest multi in <insert city name here>" - and it was a contact lens case with log on one side, arrow or other instruction on the other. A quick easy smilie for a multi type, but somehow I find a true multi - visiting at least one other location, to be more ... satisfying. More than 4 or 5 stages begins to get tedious though, so there's a balance. That may be different for each person. I do enjoy a challenging yet ultimately doable multi!
  14. Although further down the language says the souvenirs are awarded for "logging a find on 5, 10, or 20 different days", the intent is obviously to get outside and FIND A CACHE on 20 diffrent days. That's what we are going to try and do - and so far we have 6/7 days covered, one or maybe 2 a day, but we do go out each day and find a cache. To me, finding a bunch and then saying we found them over several days IS cheating the intent of the challenge; I won't do that. YMMV.
  15. Challenge #1 - Earned the Easy and Medium souvenirs for finding 10 caches; didn't come close to 100 and didn't expect to. We just did what we normally do - and I was across the country from the 23rd to the 30th, so got a few more than I normally would have at home as I was visiting new areas. Ended up with 40 for the days of the challenge, 20 of which were on the East Coast. Challenge #2 - Between exploring new areas of the East Coast, walking a few trails, and earning some favorite points, I actually made it to 1000 points well ahead of the end of the challenge period! And I believe I found 87 caches - that's a lot for a month for me! And having folks award favorite points on some of my hides made it less of a challenge to reach 1000 points - I think I may have reached that even without those extra points! Challenge #3 - Doable - though our "streak" we completed in 2018 of 404 days made us not as enthusiastic about actually trying to reach the top level on this one. 5 days, yes. 10 days, likely. 20 days, we will have to make an effort as we've found most of the locals. A few new ones were published while I was away last month, so there's a few local that I can spread out over some of the days, but not 20. Maybe a half dozen days and then we'll have to travel....we'll see how things go. We're now 4 days in and have found caches on 3 of those 4 days. Heading out of town tomorrow, so we'll get our 4th day. After that....we'll see!
  16. It all depends on your reviewer and his/her schedule - I recently held an event and had an Adventure Lab with a bonus cache I wanted to be published near the time of the event so those attending could do the Lab abd find the bonus as part of the event. It all worked out well, as I had the cache in place and coordinates verified a week or so prior to the event (gave the reviewer and myself plenty of time so if there were issues, they could be resolved well ahead of publication!). The reviewer told me in a note that he would publish the bonus cache around 1:00 in the afternoon of my event (at 3:00), so I was ready to enable my Adventure Lab at that time. The bonus was published right on the dot at 1:00! I enabled the Adventure Lab, and a few of the early arrivals at the event were able to complete it and find the bonus before the event started. It does take some coordination with your reviewer, and some planning ahead of time, but it's entirely doable!
  17. It will go away after you have a few more finds. It only shows for new cachers for the first few caches that you log.
  18. I follow the same process as you, though usually there are two of us taking readings with 2 different phones and a handheld GPS. After verifying (or not) with Google maps, and especially if there is a significant difference such as you show, I go back another day and use the coordinates I took in the field and see how close they get me. I use the GPS or phone coordinates, and only try to verify with Google maps, because that's not always accurate in my expereince. It may get you close....but I feel more comfortable getting close with the device in my hand. In most cases there isn't that much of a difference, and any comments on my coordinates have been that they are accurate.
  19. It sounds to me like you don't want to deal with her ... so don't, unless you want your container back. Confront her and ask for it back. If she denies it, or you simply don't want to deal with it, archive the cache with a note that it 's not a good location, too easily muggled, whatever (I'm not sure if I would mention the cacher by name or not, not knowing the personalities involved). Then move on. Place another, or not, it's up to you. I find it sad that some would ruin the game for others and be so petty as to steal caches, but I know it happens.
  20. The "Search" Map defaults to unfound caches, however the "Browse" Map shows all caches. I nearly always use the browse map....
  21. Your situation is not so odd - things happen! A couple of years ago I left a bag containing several trackables on the trunk of my car as I drove off. It wasn't till I was miles away, in another state, that I realized what I had done. One was a very nice, large, FTF geocoin of my own that I had won at an event - the others were ones I was carrying to move around and drop off as I traveled. I emailed/messaged all the TO's, explaining what had happened. I put all those TB's on my watchlist. The TO's either did not respond, or were very gracious in excusing my carelessness in losing their bugs! To this day, all of those bugs are still in my inventory, still on my watchlist, and I'm waiting to see if they ever show up someplace. I can mark my own as missing, but the TO's of the others need to mark them as missing or just wait for them to show up. I did not write a note on the TB pages - I suppose I could do that since they are showing in my inventory. But I'm just hoping they show up somewhere, somehow.
  22. I've been messaging more than usual lately as well, and on the website as well as the Android official app, I haven't seen any issues. You can't send messages to anyone? Do you receive any messages? Are you using the official app or the website? More details would help us to help you!
  23. Is this what you see after logging in? Click the arrow next to your name, If you click on My Adventures you can then edit existing adventures or use any credits you may have to create a new adventure.
  24. I am getting the Error 500 as well - I logged a few TB visits, with photos, and it happened after uploading the photo, then I went to view the trackable page and my log, and got Error 500. Refreshing did bring me to the trackable page, most of the time. I think once I had to refresh three times. It also happened once when I went to publish the log I had just written; I was relieved when the Back button took me to my just written log. I didn't want to try and rewrite it all again! Then, when I tried to publish, it worked.
  25. We were able to do 404 days for a couple of fortuitous circumstances. We ARE in a cache dense area, we probably could do another streak with some effort because we still have several hundred unfound caches within a 50 mile radius. We probably won't because, well, we did it once and that was sufficient for us! It was work at the end, and we are retired, and want to ENJOY the hobby, not do it because we have to. During that year, we also traveled, spent time on the East Coast, and went to Mexico (got a new country!). While at home, if new caches were published close to home, we would save those for bad weather or under the weather days. Once a trail of 5 or 6 caches was placed about 2 miles from us. It took us months to log them all, one a day spread out over those "Ugh, we need to go out and get a cache today" days. And during that year, if we did log an EC or Virtual (usually while traveling) we would also log a traditional as well on that day - I could look back and see exactly how many days we had both EC/Virtual or an Event as well as a Traditional/Multi/Puzzle with a log signed that day. We did not use sock puppets, or have others sign logs for us, we did the work ourselves and completed the 404 days with a great sigh of relief and satisfaction that WE DID IT! And we've slowed considerably since then; we still enjoy geocaching, we have goals and challenge ourselves. No more streaks though....we've had our fun with that one!
