  1. Yesterday, a group of about 50 geocachers gave back to the community by helping clean, repair and reset tombstones in a neglected cemetery. It was a CITO event and dozens of stones were laboriously scrubbed clean, glued back together, and reset on their bases that were re-leveled. It was all supervised by Professional Cemetery Restorers. I think JCURTIS is owed a great big Thank You for putting on this event!

RESPECT? You bet! Check out the photos on the Cache Page:

    :)

I was there for all of day 2. It was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever participated in. Photos of day 2 are up on the CITO listing.

I placed that cache over 2 and 1/2 years ago. The before and after pictures are absolutely stunning. I hope we can arrange for more of these in the near future. You will most definately be sore at the end of the day, but it is well worth it!

We should also recognize Doobies, IC1, and Ubear & Stinky for putting in TWO FULL EIGHT-HOUR PLUS DAY OF HARD, PHYSICAL LABOR ON THIS PROJECT. YOU GUYS ROCK!

  2. OK, Will bite.

My TB is Making the Cut!

It was given to me so I don't really care about the value, but one of the other cachers said they go for $75 on ebay. The photos and comments are worth way more than that to me.

Unfortunately someone will not move it forward.

  3. Haven't seen any like that, but I have a pretty strong opinion about the crosses themselves.

I've told my family if I'm killed in a crash and someone puts a cross up there I'll come back and haunt them for it.

The memorial should be placed at the grave, or if cremated then at home. To say more I wouldn't be very polite.

I AGREE and will pick up where you left off. The roadside crosses themselves are tacky. Nothing more than roadside trash IMHO ;) . Besides the obvious safety concerns, why would I be interested in finding a cache on or near one of these anyways ;) ?

Of course why do we go in search of caches under lamp skirts?

  4. I quoted this from another thread. It gives the other extreme possibility...

Here was a CITO event that took place where a real pipe bomb was found by a cacher in the group, bomb squad was called in, so beware there is always a chance of finding the real thing. Read through the logs for more info.

May not be worthy to be listed on your bookmarks but good to know info.

Here is a small article about it, does don't say our groupe but does say it was found.

  5. Talk with anyone who works on a bomb squad. Most legitimate bombs are boxes. What are most bombs made out of? Tupperware.

All of talk about pipe bombs is laughable.

Besides, they had permission from the property owner and the continer was clearly labled.

I do not recommed using pipe becuase they freeze in the winter. Not only can you not open them, but they split and crack when water gets in the threads. They do not make a good container.

  6. A cache placer here in Arizona places caches with a very specific political message regarding illegal immigration. I'm wondering what the ettiquette is regarding it. I was going to add this to my Found It log, but decided not to just because I have a tendency to speak quickly and think slowly at times. Since I'm new and don't know the ettiquette I thought it was a better thing to bring up here than in a Found It log.

"BTW, the political agenda of the caches in the area are a bit of a turn off. Not that I disagree or agree with the message, just that they are political in nature. It's like when my favorite band talks political at concerts. I just wanna say "just play the songs. I'm here for fun, not to take part in a one-way political discussion". I'm not about to tell anyone what they can or can not put in or on their caches so do as you please. Guess I'm just trying to add a second opinion thats all.

    Thanks again."

Did you find the cache? Did you sign the log? If so then there is no shame in claiming the find.

Claiming the find does not necessarily mean that you enjoyed or approved of the cache itself, rather that you just found it.

The only time I would not claim the find is when you go out looking for a cache with the intent of encouraging its demise (due to content, placement, whatever).

Don't over analyze claiming the find, after all it supposed to be about the smiley you get on your face and not the little electronic one.

  7. Unfortunately the cache page is now gone. Heres our first cache story.

We had one in a clear plastic pipe tube with a non clear cap. It was hidden in our town centers cannon. When they removed the cannon to do maintenance they found it in the cannon and saw the cord we had attached to the cache to pull it out. Unfortunately the worker thought it was a live round until one of the other shop members realized it was a geocache.

This one can be found at: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a7-7959e9e55984

Thanks for both of those great (and very unique) stories. I have added both to list.

  8. I work in the business and can say that it is very competitive right now. Last year my company placed an ad for a summer intern. We probably recieved 50 or so resumes from grad students on up thru those with 20 years of experience (yes, for a $12 per hour position). Although I really enjoy my involvement in the field, it is probably not the most profitable business to be in right now.

I agree that it looks great...

...but what does it have to do with geocaching?

Um, the first geocache in the state is on it?

Did you have some other suggestion?

We are discussing this design? Correct?

    No cache here. :(:D:angry:

Oh, these are variation of the back. Got it!

In that case either is good
