  1. Hi All - I replaced my old Legend with a Legend Cx. To use my old one with MS Streets and Trips I had to change the inferface to NMEA. I went to use my new one and it shows it as not being connected. I went to change the interface and there is no NMEA option. Is anyone able to help? Thanks!
  2. Hi All - I have an event cache the first weekend in June and I wanted to make sure you all were aware of it. The link is here. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! Clint

  11. Thanks for the info -- i think being able to place them on a map will make Waymarking much more accessible. Thanks! Clint
  12. Hi All -- I tried to search for this, but it was not working. If I want to see the current avaible Waymarks for an area (say around Vegas) is it possible to see them on a map? Or download a pq / gpx file with the info? Thanks! Clint
  13. Hi All -- Please check out this thread in the Northeast Forum I posted regarding an upcoming weekend event cache in Fayette County, PA. 14. In the heart of the Fayette Cong (Fayette County, PA), there will be a weekend event cache tentatively scheduled for May 12-14, 2006 at Camp Carmel. This Camp has been operated in association with the Ten Mile Baptist Church Association and Monongahela Baptist Church Association since approximately 1953. This event cache will have several aspects including volunteer work, camping, CITO, caching, and potato guns and should be listed on GC.com sometime in February The tentative schedule would be as follows: Friday- Camping / camp fire / general socialization. Camping will be available in the Camp’s cabins, and there is more than enough space for tents. And if it is a clear night, you cannot beat sleeping out in the open on the Camp’s basketball court which has a remarkable view of the mountain night sky. Hot showers and flush toilets are available in the Camp’s bath house. Saturday- Work! Break into groups, divide and conquer and get the camp ready for the season. Typically in the spring they organize several work weekends in order to prep the camp for the coming summer camping season. We will be working in conjunction with these work weekends planned by the Camp. This year's projects include, building a picnic shelter, road work, update the refrigeration in the kitchen, plumbing, and painting. On top of the projects listed, the camp always needs firewood cut and split and grass mowed. Take the evening to enjoy the area right around camp or even head up onto the mountain to do the close by caches, courtesy of Quest Master and Fishin' Magician and Flippin' Dolphin. Sunday- Play! Head out biking on the Yough trail or swim/canoe across the river and attempt the Hampton Cache. There are numerous options for activities for people on Sunday including caching, biking, hiking, off-roading, and swimming. We can break out the potato guns or even bring sporting clays / thrower and shoot some clay birdies. As for the local caches to the camp, take a look at QM's Liston School Road and look at the surrounding caches. Within 15 miles of this cache are some of the most praised caches in South Western PA. For more information on the camp, please see their website (Camp Carmel). As you can tell from the pictures on the website, the Camp is run on a shoestring budget. Camp Carmel's coords are approximately N39° 58.003 W79° 30.764, so you can see where the camp is if you are not familiar with the area. Discussion for this event cache can also be seen at the Trigo Yahoo Group (Tri-Go) What you need to do now: Keep your schedule open! If you think you be able to make or have any questions, please feel free to contact me either via clint@logcabinfence.com email or via the forums. Further, as far as the work projects are concerned, if you would happen to have any contacts with the potential to make donations of paint or building materials, please consider approaching them to see if they are interested in making a donation to the Camp. Tax donation forms will be available for their contributions. Thanks! Clint aka CW Iams
  15. Perfect - - I need to go through these lists! :-) As far as hotel, I am not sure. I know it is close to the convention center. I am primarily looking more at the caches outside of the city as I typically enjoy them more. But I have been in very few urban areas for caching, so I am always open to new caching. Regarding driving, that is completely contingent on how much time I can have away from work. Right now I am thinking about taking a day and hitting the Red Rock area then heading down to the Hoover Dam from there. Thanks for the advice! Clint
  16. Thanks for the reply! In my searching, I came across the Nevada Geocaching Group and found 2 different book mark lists of favorite caches to try. I will certainly add your suggestions to my list of ones to research - Thanks!
  17. Hi all - I am going to be in Vegas in early February and was hoping someone may have a bookmark list with their favorite Vegas area caches. Also, we are planning on shooting down to the Hoover Dam, so advice on any of the best caches in that area would be appreciated as well. And finally, what other non city activities are in between Vegas and the Hoover Dam? Any places worth stopping at, or slightly detouring to? Thanks all! Clint
  18. When I 'cache I walk through the woods with my S&W .357 drawn straight in front of me like in the movies when the good guy is going after the bad guy... kidding... I grew up on a farm and hunting is a tradition where I am from. I have grown up around fire arms and I have my permit to carry a side arm, and do so when I feel the need. I typically do not carry in the city, as I currently only have a hefty .357 that is not all too inconspicuous. However, when I am caching in the ‘Cong (Fayette County, PA) I almost always have it on my side. There are some unsavory characters there and when they see a sidearm, they tend to tone it done a bit. As others have stated, if you feel the need to carry, please get the proper training and realize the consequences of your actions. I hope to God that it never gets pulled from my holster unless it is for target practice. But I am a boy scout, and I always try to be prepared.
  19. I just asked QM about the new Pechins Cafeteria this past weekend. He said it wasn't open yet. Where are the Congsters getting their "fix"? Salvelinus In regards to the Penchin's 'fix', I am sure the locals are having a hard time to find a better 5 cent cup of coffee or 95 cent daily lunch special...
  20. Slightly off topic, something some people do not think about is items that smell (good, bad or other wise). I have pulled car air fresheners and hand lotion from one of my caches that people have left because I was afraid it would attract an animal. Yes they are not food but a vanilla scent sure smells like food….
  21. Angelo's is awesome -- it has been far to long since I have been there! Have a fun trip! If only it was not disabled, you could hit this challenging cache up on your trip to Washington: GCHA91
  22. BTW, when are you going to be coming through and for how long? The fall in SWPA generally has several little festivals that can make for a fun weekend. The Covered Brigde Festival was last weekend, but coming up we have the Houston Pumpkin Festival and Hickory Apple Festival...
  23. Depending on your timeframe, I have two that are within a 20 minute drive from Washington: NTM Old Log Church Hughes Bridge -- this one will be back up tonight or Friday night. All of the Washington Park ones are nice. Almost as important as caching, there are a couple of nice resturants in Washington if you like to avoid the chains, as I do when I am traveling: Solomans Seafood Union Grill Texas Roadhouse (Yeah, I know it is a chain, but it has some darn good food! )
