  1. Sigh...........! I spotted this thread and, briefly, thought it might be for cachers in Eastern Washington, but I've lived here long enough to know better. The "East side" doesn't mean Spokane, Yakima, Wenatchee, Ellensburg or even Cle Elem (maybe North Bend? (maybe not)). I think it was the number of replies that gave it away. In any case I recognized some names, of a few people that I've actually met in person, so I thought I would extend greetings from the (far) Eastside. Cheers!
  2. Ayep. As unsatisfying as this may seem, I think it's the best advice that's been given.
  3. I use a Verizon LG VX6100, that I've almost destroyed. Verizon tells me that I can upgrade next month but I'll probably wait untit the first of the year. I use the wap interface to get the coordinates, hint and cache description when I'm desperate, that's all. I don't pay for internet from Verizon and as long as I keep the free proxy addresses updated it works just fine. If the phone was in better shape I'd keep it, but I really need a new one. Who uses Verizon and has a new phone, that works well, that they would recommend? When I upgrade I want to get something that works with the wap(and has a little better camera built in). Perhaps if more people posted about what worked for them, we could avoid a lot of the problems by not buying the stuff that doesn't work. I'm really sorry I don't have any help for you huggy (we all need some joy), setting up my phone was so easy but I was never able to get my son in law's T-mobile phone to work so I somewhat understand your frustration.
  4. I used do do quite a bid of climbing and mountaineering and I remember back in (I think) the early 1980s, the NPS was considering removing all the summit registers from the national parks. Of course the mountaineering community was outraged. I never did hear the outcome of this but I don't believe they removed any registers. Not only do the registers predate GPS, some of them predate the park they're in and contain a lot of history. Like most geocachers I'm disappointed with the NPS's policy on geocaching but knowing how they think it doesn't surpise me.
  5. Well, for what it's worth, mine came through just fine. The only virus message I got was the little note AVG adds, way at the bottom. I think it looks exactly as intended and is perfectly readable. I'm a little embarassed to say because I know it's not cool but I'm using Outlook Express.
  6. That is good news! I put the Mojo coin on my watchlist and I look forward following it's travels. Thank you forthferalz for your efforts. GETTING BACK TO THE TOPIC: I got no reply from the guys who took his coin from the GC cache. Want to bump them? So will someone else who knows about terracaching try unhook his other coin? I certainly hope he appreciates all the work you've done on his behalf...... It took me awhile to find it but I checked the TC he left the USA coin in and no one has logged the cache since, so the coin should still be there. However, in his log, he indicates that he traded the coin for an item in the cache and he posted the coin number and the activation code in his log?! If this coin is found someone could easily think it was intended to be swag instead of a trackable. He really needs to edit this log and make his intentions clear (and remove the codes!). On the coin he placed in the geocache, he needs to correctly log it into the cache. The people that took it haven't, really, found any caches since they got the coin, I think they'll move it along when they get the chance. And, of course, he needs to log the Mojo coin out correctly, with a nice note about how he's going to move it to another cache. Then quickly move it to another cache, and correctly log it into that cache. Then, hopefully, this thread can die a happy death.
  7. That is good news! I put the Mojo coin on my watchlist and I look forward following it's travels. Thank you forthferalz for your efforts.
  8. Please don't misunderstand my post as a defense of chanterelleman, it's not. I was only suggesting that given a little time he might change his mind and do the right thing. I'm really sorry forthferalz, I've read this several times, re-read the topic and the cache page and read your post again and I still can't understand what you're trying to say, or what it has to do with my post.
  9. I was going through my watchlist today and noticed this one. When I checked the cache page I saw that it's gone unfound for over a year and there are no DNFs or notes (other than one by the hider). Did ShadowAce actually win the prize for solving the puzzle? Is anyone still working on this?
  10. I appreciate the OP's frustration but isn't this a little premature? People say things all the time they don't mean, especially when they're upset or angry. I looked at his profile and he seems to have done a good job so far at moving trackables and being a honorable geocacher. I think we should give him a chance to do the right thing before we start the name calling and character assassination.
  11. I bought some white Jeeps here. http://bbjeep2.stores.yahoo.net/jewrrupu.html They are identical to the ones on the WJTB, even the same box. I've also found two at Walmart in the last six months or so but they're hard to come by. The price there is $1.97, if you can find them. I've also found some green Jeeps at Walmart identical to the ones on the GJTB. They usually come in a two pack with a different jeep for about a dollar. They don't always have them, you just have to keep looking. Here's a picture of my Jeep collection. The one on top is a real WJTB that I found in a cache (I've since moved it along), the one bottom center I found at Walmart (note the price) and the others I got from the link above. I've seen a few logs where people have said that their kid was so thrilled with the Jeep TB that they just couldn't part with it. If you're thinking of doing that, hopefully you'll consider buying one instead and letting the TB go.
  12. Not me. I don't need to know who they are but I want to know IF they are (and how many).
  13. My feeling (and it seems to be the general consenus) is that, unless the cache page clearly states otherwise, if you find the final stage of a multi and sign the log, it counts as a find. I don't think these guys did anything wrong or unusual based on the original cache description. The finder in question also wrote a long detailed account of what he went through to find the cache. I would have been flattered to get a log like that on one of my caches. Would we even be here if he'd just logged "TNLNSL"? You've modified the cache page to make your expections clear for the future, but I think the existing logs should stand. I also think, if you are going to enforce having to find every stage, you owe it to the folks trying to do the cache to fix any problems promptly.
  14. Congratulations Chumpo for reaching 900 finds at the Jeep Jamboree. Cheers, and best wishes. MtnGoat50,
  15. No, don't do that!!!! I agree that it is not a good idea to show who is watching a cache, but it is always a cool thing to me to see that people notice and watch my caches. KEEP THE NUMBER OF WATCHERS I agree, please don't do that! To some extent it shows that people are interested in the item for whatever reason. I have quite a few geocoins and Jeep TBs on my watchlist, some of which haven't moved in over a year. I have this fantasy that some of these people will notice the watchers and think, "Wow, there are 15 people waiting for me to place this in a cache", and maybe they'll do it. I'm not holding my breath, but I can hope.
  16. Now that the green Jeep contest has started and the time has past for people who recieved Jeeps from Groundspeak to have placed them, I thought I would bump this topic up to the front again. When I saw the new green Jeep my first thought was "That's not nearly as cool as last years white one". My next thought was "good!, maybe more of them will be in caches and get moved along". Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. I've learned a lot about geocaching ettiquete by reading the forums. Hopefully at least a few people will read this topic and reallize it's not OK to collect these as souvineers and start moving them along.
  17. You might check out the previous logs on this cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...cd-d7fc7907f65b The idea is for people to list their favorites for visitors. I noticed that some of the caches mentioned have since been archived or are inactive so be sure to check. Lincoln Park, on the near south side has a high density of good caches, for the most part easy walking, lots of caches to find and great scenery. If you like to hike one of my favorite areas is the Dishman Hills and for longer walks Riverside State park. I suppose I'm prejudiced but all my caches are great too. Hope you have a good trip!
  18. Try using this WAP interface that was mentioned earlier in the thread. It has a few more options and a link to GC. http://rtr.ca/geo
  19. Select "OK" and you should get the form.
  20. never thought of that... nope, still need the number...... good idea, though. Are you sure this doesn't work? Post the note, then go to the Jeep's page and select "view log". In the upper right there should be a link to Upload Image.
  21. There was a white jeep in our area that was replaced with a Suzuki Samuri. Lots of disapointed finders after that. In the scheme of things though, I think this is preferable to the much more common practice of keeping the jeeps and never moving them along at all.
  22. First let me say this great! I've had a lot of fun with it since I set it up on my cell. I've used it a couple of times to get the hint when I've forgotten to bring the cache sheet or load the PDA. I think this would be a great addition. I can sometimes go through pages and pages without seeing an unfound cache, and I don't have that many finds compared to some. In any case, thanks again, I've really enjoyed having mobile access.
  23. Congratulations mooseandsquirrel on 1000 finds! Cheers and best wishes, from MtnGoat50.
