  1. Just curious, Is this a record?? 1 day shy of two years and I think I was the last one to look for it. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=3888 I did a search and the closest I could come up with was a little over one year. I got a record! (I think, I hope)
  2. My suggestion about WCA was that most 1 star terrain "should" be the starting point for a WCA (wheel chair accessible) cache search. Of course you have to do the research and decide for yourself if you can or want to accept the challenge. Some cachers underate as well as overate some caches.
  3. By definition a 1 star terrain would be wheel chair accessible. Using the pocket query (if you're a member) you can customize a geocache search for your area that fits your needs. I find it a very valuable tool to search for geocaches. Jeo
  4. I'm going to put it at the top of my list. We have to fulfill both halves of our Society's name after all. Anyone else want to go?
  5. Yikes seventeen reverences to evil in the first 4 finds I'm starting to get a complex. bWah hahahhaaa
  6. There seems to blank spot on that part in the video. Yeah that's the ticket. I guess I'll have to give out Polar bear buttons and Extreme geocache awards as well, at the next pizza meet. and pirate videos. lol
  7. I like the bridge idea Maybe even an image of the tower bridge. RE Atlantis I wish I could take credit for that hiding spot but over a year ago Scuba Scooby Doo was there. Since it has been over a year I thought "hey why not?" we haven't had any real good controvercial caches lately.
  8. We've kinda just started thinking about the artwork, nothing is set yet. Here is your chance to get your artwork published and make lots of money... well maybe... Personally I would like something that would work on a 2 inch button as well as a T-shirt. The more ideas the better. Jeo
  9. Natureboy, have you noticed that you are one of those people as well? Just by existing you are consuming resources and land that could be used by animals. Let's see how... wood house, a car, leather shoes, electricity (from fossil fuel or hydro) the food you eat comes from agriculture ie: land, and the list goes on. I agree that we should use resources wisely but your statements were way offbase.
  10. OK I'm ready for another trip, at least the pre-planning get together. Round table pizza worked out real well for the last planning session. I suggest another pizza place to our liking and a trip sometime at the end of January (after football ) or the beginning of Febuary. BTW has anyone done any artwork yet? Jeo
  11. The only thing I have a problem with is anything with liquid in it. I personally have had 3 caches ruined by things that have leaked. Kiddie bubbles are especially bad because they come in cheap containers that tend to leak.
  12. Not to ruffle any feathers here but I enjoyed all of Apollo's caches. They usually made you think AND they definitely made you think out of the norm. From the feedback that I got from him and others is that he quit for several reasons. At the time Geocaching was growing rapidly in our area. Some of us were pushing the boundaries in ways that... shall we say were not conventional and some caches were not for everybody. You had to use common sense on what your limitations were and then decide if you wanted to continue or not. Apollo liked to use a boat for many caches and his were the first ones that I found in trees that you had to climb to get to. That is why I got used to doing a recon trip to check things out first. I think what finally did it for him had something to do with running his business. Being self-employed I know how that can change your prioities really fast. Personally I mis Apollo and his challenges.
  13. I agree as far as safety is concerned, but I do have to tell you about Paybacks are a Rock cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=8218 Apollo always had very interesting geocaches. And this one was no different. I had to many of his before so I decided to go on a recon trip with binoculars for a walk on the levee. Since the map showed it being in the river and on or near the bridge I wanted to be prepared when I went for the final assault. Upon arriving at the bridge I spotted George of the Georockers searching in the river with an inflatable raft. I did some looking with the binos and spotted some suspiciuos holes in the bridge above the waterline. I called out to George and he broke off the searcin the water to come over and talk. I told him my that I thought that I spotted something in one of the piers halfway across the river (about 100 feet away). He agreed and tried to get it but the water level was down and could not quite reach where I was talking about. In the mean time Apollo showed up on the other side of the river to watch the fun. I decided to come back later with my aluminum boat to see if I could reach it. Got it stuck in the sand bar a couple of times and got close to reaching the pidgeon hole but just couldn't quite reach where I thought it was. Hhhmmm now what do I do? I talked to a friend (SnowRider) and he suggested a ladder. You should have seen the looks on peoples faces when we showed up at the dock with an aluminum boat with a 10 foot extension ladder in it. We used the ladder on the river bed to reach where I thought it was and YAHOO! we found it. The kicker is to log it as a find we had to contact Apollo with what the note inside said. "You Really Need Help!"
  14. There's always room for more! For future planning and meeting points what is your 1020 (general location)? and contact anyone of us with your e-mail address, most of the planning goes on thru e-mail. I look forward to meeting you. Jeo
  15. I think we may have stumbled on a whole new way of Geocaching. Get together with a bunch of your friends (in this case 9 total) go out of town and check out the dining establishments in other areas.... oh yeah and find a bunch of geocaches too As a group we learned a few things about some individual gps units that we didn't know and learning as we go some mapping software. Only a few u-turns and backtracking but no real problems, ... wink wink nudge nudge Watch out your town may be next! Jeo
  16. Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!? I guess that by the time I got around to setting the time it finally locked on or something like that. The test I did was with a globalmap 100 with the updated drivers. v 1.8.
  17. If this is not just a program for the gps, how come there are updates that you can download to to your gps to make it work better? I have had several gpss' and they all work a little different. Every company that makes gpss' had a team of programmers that they thought knew it all and yet they all work different. So which one is right? All I'm saying is double check the data, and There is no one answer that fits all solutions.
  18. but it worked!!! and it makes sense if you think about it. The sats are not in geosynchronis (I hope I spelled that right) orbits. They are constantly changing their relationships to the earth and one another. The gps only measures the doppler effect of the signals and the newer ones know when and where they are supposed to be according to a time schedule which is inputted into a computer program. If the program is old ie; a sat fails or the timing is wrong and it doesn't know the time wouldn't that throw everything off? 19. I like it! and I found the numbers but if you want them you'll have to pay. bwaa haahaa too bad I can't look without a plane ticket.
  20. I have noticed with some of the older gps's you have to make sure the time is entered by hand correctly. Once I entered the pm instead am (over a year ago, yeah that's the ticket) and the gps didn't know where it was. This last weekend I was comparing a Globalmap 100 with an etrex. The etrex sets it's own time. When I checked the coords for a cache I was placing and compared them they were way off. I checked the times and the Globalmap time was off by 1 hour. Once it was reset they agreed on the coordinates. Am I wrong? or did I just stumble onto something? [This message was edited by Jeo and Mc5 on August 25, 2002 at 08:36 PM.]
  21. There as been quite a bit of goings on behind the scenes. Sorry didn't mean to leave anybody out. The most recent has been a grueling hike to Pyramid peak by Glenn95630 and M@ on Sat; and an attempted hike by me (Jeo) by a different route to catch Halfway There cache on the way to Pyramid peak. My way was a bust but "I'LL BE BAACK!" I did get the other caches but it was a liitle too steep to get to Room @ the Top from Halfway There. I saw lots of wildlife ( I think it was the Spam and even helped fix a flat tire for a beer.

  23. I've found a few boat only accessible and have hidden a few that are both. Sounds like you might have an idea or two for some hiding spots?. Place some and see what happens.
  24. just a quick thought... with this talk of graveyard stuff wouldn't a revived bug be a Zombie bug? Or is that just some of my twisted logic coming out? Sounds like fun to me.
