  1. CapnJackSparrow, I think this is the link you are referring to at Geocachers U website. I also use this trifold brochure along with the cards that you can print out. http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/index.html#downloads
  2. Scott, if you do decide to go the PDA route, then you probably need to get this accessory. My caching partner and I both have these and they do help tremendously. It keeps your PDA dry and the dirt out. It also floats if necessary. Like I said earlier, it's best to have a handheld gps if you do go out in the elements, but if not, this can save your PDA from getting messed up. There are several different sizes available. This is just the one that happened to fit my PDA with the GPS card in it. I still get all of the gps satellite signals while the PDA is in the case also. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...duct_id=2553355 LSUFan
  3. Thanks Keystone Approver for sharing this information with everyone. Even though it is published, I was unaware of it as I'm sure some of my other compatriots were. I think this is great and should help with this cache and similar future ones that have problems. Thanks Again for taking the time to educate me----again LSUFan
  4. Now that's an idea that is definitely worthy of consideration. It might solve some future problems. LSUFan
  5. Amytincan, if you'll move this post to the garage sale forum, then it should be ok. The garage sale forums are meant for people selling things and are not endorsed by geocaching.com. I would like a link to these personally. Thanks LSUFan
  6. Hearing impared - and why is that an issue? sd I guess if you watch it with someone who is deaf, then it's funnier. You probably need to watch it with Closed Caption turned on. Can you imagine reading the sound effects from a porn movie? I can, and it's hilarious thinking about it. LSUFan
  7. I believe Southdeltan's point is being lost here. This cache was archived with no explanation or forewarning. This forum has brought up the explanation that there may have been complaints against this cache. Even if there were complaints by a few, the majority have still found no problems with this cache. Leaving all religious/non-religious arguments aside, any cache should not be allowed to be archived as long as no laws or regulations are broken, and there is no immediate danger to anyone. A very thin argument can be made that geocaching guidelines may have been breached. Even this is an extremely weak consensus among all the geocachers who have shared their posts on the subject. After all, these are just guidelines, that can be open to interpretation among everybody who reads them. The majority have interpreted this cache as non-offensive, so I don't understand why the minority has been allowed to archive the cache. As far as this or any cache goes, it is our CHOICE to either hunt for it or not. If we either have to read the Bible or watch Farenheit 9/11 to solve a puzzle to find a cache, it's totally a choice. The main thing is, I want to HAVE that choice and not let a few in the minority dictate to me what I can or cannot do. I have to believe that everybody else also wants to have choices. If we just stand by and allow this cache to be archived by a few, then we are surely going to find our choices limited for future caches. Jeremy and all of the geocaching. com people have some decisions to make that can affect our choices. Please allow us the choice to choose what caches we want to hunt for (or not hunt for). Please unarchive this cache and don't let the minority censor the fun that the majority has. Thanks You LSUFan
  8. I'm reading where several of my fellow geocachers are getting embroiled in this topic. Once I read all the posts, and names, I decided that I would jump into it also. First of all, let me say how much respect I have for everyone's views in this. I consider Southdeltan and Mtn-Man geocaching mentors for me. They are a true asset to the whole community, so if they get involved in something, then I know it's worthwhile for everyone to listen. That being said, let me get back to the topic at hand. I, personally, have requested several caches to be archived. TNGeocacher and Mnt-Man have both accomodated my requests on several occassions. All of these caches had been abandoned though and were not active ones. After reading TNGeocachers reply to the whole thing, I can accept what happened on his part. To err is human, just as it's human to overreact sometimes. I have not looked at this cache yet, and don't feel I need to. The whole controversy over this cache is indicative of a greater underlying problem in this country. What has happened to the term "Majority Rules"? This cache is in the same boat as many of our laws are. The vast majority support it, but one or two individuals are able to have it thrown out. This is wrong, but sadly enough, is being allowed to happen in our courts---and now in geocaching. This needs to stop in both of these venues. It just takes a group effort. Jeremy, as a fellow business owner, I'm sure you're aware of the "Majority Rules" concept. When you're deciding what products to sell to geocachers, you base your decisions on which ones will be the most popular and in turn sell to the most people(The Majority). You're not going to invest your time and resources in a product for just a few people. It doesn't make good business sense to do that, just as it doesn't make good business sense to not listen to the majority of your customers. Yes, geocachers are your customers since you are running a for profit venture as you have stated. It's quite obvious from reading the log posts, the majority have spoken and expressed their wishes---------unarchive this cache. Thank You LSUFan
  9. Have you tried searching Ebay for one. I have bought several gps's (mostly for a PDA though) off of Ebay. Just make sure to check the sellers feedback rating. If they have a good feedback from other buyers, then you usually won't have any problems. Just trying to help. LSUFan
  10. I personally use a Dell Axim PDA with a compact flash GPS card along with Mapopolis mapping software. Mapopolis has a conversion utility where you can run pocket queries from Geocaching.com (a premium member service) and it will put the caches as waypoints on the map screen. Mapopolis then will give you voice prompts on how to drive to the cache. You can also download the same pocket queries to another program on the PDA called GPXSonar, where you can view the cache webpages(along with the hidden spoilers if needed). It's truly paperless caching and extremely easy. All of this works great IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER----I totally agree with Dukie'n'Dad and Stunod that you DON'T want this when out in the woods. A PDA is not built for harsh environments. I use my ole trusty Garmin when I have to go in the woods. These are the types of GPS's you want to use if you're out in the elements. This advice comes from lots of personal experience with both a PDA and a handheld Garmin. Just trying to help LSUFan
  11. I am about to lose my little geocaching partner if I can't get some help. DH previously made me a great avatar that I had Sissy & CR make into a stamp for me. The problem is that now my ten year old geocaching accomplice feels left out and is threatening to boycott future geocaching hunts unless she also has an avatar/stamp of her screename. (Man, kids these days get educated fast. She'll probably organize a union with her one year old brother before Christmas) Will DH or someone help me before she starts walking a picket line. Her screename is SAINTSGIRL. Originally the name came from the New Orleans Saints but it doesn't necessarily have to be that. I kinda knew what I wanted my avatar to look like but I don't have a clue on anything for hers. I need your creative minds and skills to help me with this. I want to thank everyone in advance for any help they can give me/and her. LSUFan
  12. I'll take the one left in red and two more in black. Whenever you get some more reds in, I'll get a few more of those also. Also I would love to get my hands on some of those geocaching window clings whenever you do make those. I know you told me earlier you would make some whenever you had time to get to your supplier. It's beginning to look that this spare bedroom hobby is turning into a job. That just goes to show you, when you have good products & service like you and Sissy do, people are going to want them. I know I sure do. It kinda reminds me of the famous movie excerpt "If you build it, they will come"----------------right to Sissy & CR's online geocaching store. Thanks LSUFan
  13. Sissy & CR, Have ya gave any more thought to engraving those Bison Tubes for emergency numbers and contact info. We were discussing something like engraving "Open in case of Emergency" on them earlier in the forums. I have a friend who definitely wants some of those if ya do decide to make them. CR, you started this good idea, we just need you to follow it thru. thanks LSUFan
  14. Sissy and CR, I just got my order in today. I really like the stamp and holder for it. I want to thank ya again for all the help and info on getting an avatar made to make a stamp out of. I just have one more request. Can ya make me a stamp of a hundred dollar bill? I'm just kidding--------unless you can do it, then I'm serious Thanks again LSUFan
  15. CR, I think red would be good but any color would work if it was engraved "for an emergency." If you are going to make these, I want to get in line for five. Thanks LSUFan
  16. CR, I was talking about your idea of keeping emergency numbers in a Bison tube with a friend of mine today. He suffers from a few ailments himself, and he agreed that he needed to keep emergency numbers with him in case something happened. That way emergency responders could contact his family and such. He wants me to get him some so he can attach them to his keyrings. He brought up a good idea, in my opinion, also. He thought it would be great, in case the person is incapacitated, if the bison tube had engraved on it "OPEN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY". That way if the person was unconscious or such, the emergency responders would read it and know to open the bison tube up for the numbers inside and the like. Do you think you could engrave a message like that on some bison tubes? I sure do want to purchase some if you can for my friend and my family. Thanks LSUFan
  17. Great idea CR. I have some bison tubes already coming in from an order I placed with you earlier. I'll probably use them for this purpose. Glad to hear your Dad is going to be OK. LSUFan
  18. Cr & Sissy, I just wanted to drop ya a note here in the forums bragging on your products and exceptional service that I have received. . I've been emailing all my geocaching friends and trying to spread the word about you the best I can. I've been communicating with my ole buddy Nyvram1 up in Tennessee. I think he has or is placing an order with you as I type this. I know he is wanting to get some stamps made for his Scout Troop also. I just want everyone who reads these forums to know what an asset CR & Sissy are to the sport. Thanks LSUFan
  19. CR, I just read your post where you were showing some vinyl sticker ideas and was wanting some feedback. I think these are great and I would like to purchase at least four of those signs that say "Geocacher on Board--Expect frequent erratic stops" , if you have any of these made up. I would like to give them to my fellow geocaching crew around here. I like this concept and am sure my partners will too. You are currently making me a stamp of my new avatar, and I would also like to have a vinyl sticker of it too if you could possibly add it to my order along with the above stickers and other items. I want to thank you and Sissy for all the help and ideas you have given me. Keep up the good work. LSUFan
  20. DH, That is perfect. It's exactly what I wanted. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort you made for me. Please let me buy you dinner for this. Just email me an address and I'll send you some restaurant gift cards. Let me know what kind of food you enjoy also. If there's one thing we Cajuns know how to do, it's eating----after a day of geocaching I'm going to download it and get it to Sissy so she can make me a stamp from it. Thanks Again LSUFan
  21. I use a pocket pc for geocaching and it works great when you have all the accessories and software. I have two geocaching partners who have copied my setup. We all use a Dell Axim 5 (64 mb Ram-- 400 mhz processor) along with a Holux GM-270 compact flash GPS, Mapopolis mapping software, and GPXSonar geocaching software. You can download gpx files from the geocaching.com site and put them on your pocket pc. GPXSonar (which is freeware from another fellow geocacher) then reads these gpx files and shows them on your pocket pc screen just like the website does. All you have to do to see the hidden spoiler is to highlight a blank area on the screen and the spoiler shows up if you need it. Mapopolis software is a mapping software you can use on your pocket pc. They have several versions available but i recommend the navigator version. It speaks turn by turn directions to you as you are driving so you don't have to watch a screen. Mapopolis also has a free gpx conversion utility(they realized how many geocachers are using their software) which lets you convert gpx files to points on the mapopolis maps. It is so easy when you're at one cache and you let ampopolis give you directions to the next one, thru voice prompts. The compact flash gps just plugs into a compact flash slot on top of the dell axim and the mapopolis software ( or other mapping software) shows you directions to your caches. It's truly paperless caching this way and extremely easy once you get used to it. If you shop ebay, you can get all of this for around 300 dollars. The hardest thing will be the axim to get a deal on. Mapopolis is 100 bucks and the gps is around seventy or so depending on the deal. If you shop hard you can get an axim for 130 dollars used. My buddies have gotten some for this price. Just trying to be helpful and show what works for me. I'm sure you can do all of this on a Palm but since I don;t have a Palm, I can't give you any pointers on one.
  22. Just for fun, I checked garmins website and I think I found for free what you're wanting. This is version 3.60 of the software for the eTrex Legend. There is a sidenote on the righthand side of this page for you to download the Marine Points of Interest(POI) if it was included in your etrex, since it will be lost when you upgrade the software. Check this link out and see if it helps you. http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=25
  23. I'm trying to figure out exactly which software you are wanting. I have a garmin GPSIIIPlus which I update for free from the Garmin website. I would check here to see if they have available for download exactly what you are looking for. The website is www.garmin.com I know for sure you can update your units software from here. Just trying to help
  24. Thanks Sissy, I just got my order in today. I've already started painting containers using the stencils. I appreciate you sending microlog sheets with the bison tubes, that made it so much easier. I know I said I was going to get some artwork to you to make a stamp out of but I'm not satisfied with my current avatar. I'm trying to get some help on another forum with this and will get the linart to you as soon as I can. Thanks again for the products, I've already started including a hyperlink to your store with my correspondance to other geocachers. Thanks LSUFan
  25. Hey Everyone, I was needing some help on a avatar I was wanting for my screename. I've been using my company logo as my avatar but it just doesn't go with my geocaching name. I was wanting to get a stamp made from CR & Sissy so I just need it to be simple black and white lineart. I've been trying to draw this myself but have quickly learned I have no artistic abilities whatsoever. I'm wanting something looking like a profile of Charlie Brown standing in his shorts and hiking boots. It would be neat if he had on a backpack and was holding a gps in his hand. The fun part was I was wanting him to be wearing a football helmet with LSU on the side of the helmet. Can someone take pity on this creatively challenged cajun and help me out? LSUFan
