  1. Will gladly entertain offers... Great beginner GPS
  2. Sorry for the last post. had started that and then went out of the room before I finished it and posted it. So, in the meantime your post was added. Will go ahead and delete it because I don't want the thread ruined either. It is a beautiful story and glad it happened.
  3. Deleted because putting down a troll isn't worth messing up this beautiful thread.
  4. Nope, you don't sound like an idiot at all; so many models it gets confusing. This is just the Legend. The original one. Feel free to ask any more questions, either on here or through sending me a message and thanks for looking!
  5. This is a brand new eTrex Legend (blue model). I had it as my back up incase my other Legend ever went kaput, lost in a creek, or smashed as I fell down rocks and landed on it. Those disasters never happened. (well I did fall down rocks and land on it, but that isn't the one for sale, it was the other guy's that I was caching with, so no worries there. ) Aren't there are other cachers out there who are paranoid that if something happens to their main unit that they might miss out on a FTF before they get to the store, right? Gotta have a back up... This box was never opened before I did just now to take a picture. I stuck in some batteries and took it outside and found the cache that I have about a half a mile from my house. Little guy locked right on to it. So well that I was tempted to sign the log and claim it as a smiley for myself. Once I knew it was working and would be okay to sell, the batteries came out and everything got packed up. I didn't even remove the factory plastic protection thing over the screen of the eTrex. I recently bought a 60CSx and decided to use my other Legend as a back up, so this one is now for sale. Includes: Unit PC cable Wrist strap Owner's Manual Quick Start Up Guide Asking $75 plus shipping Thanks! Scott Team Hartsock
  6. Pulled it out and also found a link http://teamlars.wordpress.com/2009/01/25/f...ocoin-in-orbit/
  7. Wasn't there a geocoin in space as well? I am too lazy to dig it out from under the desk, but I do think I have a bronze coin that commerates that. Has an engraving of the space shuttle lifting off....
  8. I have two bags...one is backpack filled with all the stuff mentioned in the first post. The second is a fanny pack/water bottle holder type thing ($10 at Walmart...works great!) that holds the basic stuff like is mentioned in the 2nd post. All depends on what type of cache or where I am going to which bag I use. Generally, I have them both along in the car so I can determine which I want to use when we to the parking area.
  9. you know, I dug out my old Palm to attempt this and after downloading GSAK and talking with other cachers and searching the threads, I just decided to forget it. When I get a GPS that has the function, then I'll use it, but for now, all the converting and stuff just seemed too much. What I do takes some work too, but to me gives me greater freedom. I copy and paste the cache listing into a word file (without the logs...use the simple view button). I put as many on one document as I want to do. Then go back and quickly edit them; deleting the info or pics that I don't need or want. Can reduce it down to a listing that is pretty bare, but with all that I need. Waste paper? YES.... WASTE INK....YES.... Saves me other aggravation? Sure does! Plus it gets me more familar with the cache data, which is just a personal bonus for me.
  10. Sorry, had to laugh on that one; but what happens if you have so many caches in an area that you end up missing the frisbee and it lands near the next to a last stage of a multi and you get a real bonus of a short cut??? One question for the OP...if the mount royal is so big and has so little caches, what's the big deal with moving your cache (just a little, like o say a tenth of a mile) so it falls within guidelines?
  11. I have hidden over 100 caches. I have contacted the reviewer prior to finalizing maybe 1/4 of them - some due to a unique circumstance, some because the were at the hairy edge of a guideline, and some to verify that they were not too close to stages of caches I had previously done but no longer had the coordinates for. No big deal. And in several cases I had to move my cache because of proximity issues. No big deal. Agreed. A few weeks ago I put a series of caches out while staying at our camp. A couple were the classic "micro on the iron bridge" type ones. One of the was on PA-route 53. All were approved but this one. I got an email from the reviewer who showed me the guideline that states no caches will be approved on bridges, (and other things...) along major routes due to terroristic type concerns. Okay, fine. No problem at all, now I have a cache already made, a log ready to go and a listing with a cache number already in place. All I gotta do is go find a place for it to go. One of these days I will. No big deal, can reuse it again. I personally fell the proximity guidelines are good and should be kept in place. Maybe areas that are being over saturated with micros every 1/10 of a mile should be examined and areas be kept open for traditional caches?? I dunno, but take it in stride, it shouldn't make you lose love for the game, there are still plenty of caches to find and with a little looking you can find a place to hide a cache anywhere.
  12. It's yours....do whatever you want with it. You got that right, people even dip thier bugs in caches, so moving it to help it along with it's mission is alot more acceptable than dipping (not that there is anything wrong with that, stay on topic people. )
  13. There is no such thing as "muggles". Everyone is a cacher, but some just don't realize it because they haven't found what they are looking for.
  14. I get the sarcasim in this post, but why can't there be? I mean really, what's the big deal if someone wants to form a Christian Geocaching club? You don't want to be there or join, then don't... If there is a Atheist or Agnostic group, then so be it. I wouldn't join, but I also would gripe, moan, or belittle them because they had their group. I don't see anyone forcing their beliefs on anyone here; I don't see where it presents any more of an offense than a group getting together to do the whole "I hate micros" thing. It would be a group of cachers who have like interest who get together to discuss like beliefs and go caching. Every sportsman's club that has a group of geocachers would fall into the same category.
  15. Before posting in a thread, you might consider reading what has already been posted in it. Two posts before yours: MENU>MENU>Setup>System>MENU>Software Version. That would require me to read the whole thread...
  16. . Page to the Main Menu->setup->system->menu->Software Version Jim Thanks! Software version 3.10 GPS SW Version 2.90 Guess I have some updating to do....
  17. quite the noob question, but I just bought a used 60CSx and not sure if it is updated or not. Where can I find what version mine has. I can't seem to find that anywhere...
  18. Here's the thing, you don't want to release anything that you wouldn't want to take the chance on losing if something happens to it, a cache gets muggled, some decides they need a flash drive, etc... So if you don't mind taking a chance on losing it, then go for it. I think it is a great idea and a small 1 or 2 gig drive really doesn't cost that much anymore. I would go for it, but state clearly when you would want it sent back to you. You might want to give it short missions and send it out over and over again; that way if something does happen to it one of those times, you would still get something from it. Great idea! go for it! (if you don't mind taking the chance.)
  19. Not arguing the point here, but felt this could be a little clearer....Are you saying it isn't against the rules, but really not wanted? Or are you saying don't do it, it isn't allowed? Just felt that needed to be a little more defined.
  20. Got it today and very well pleased, although I do see the 2 gig card in there, but how in the world do you get it out? LOL!!!!! Thanks Phyllis, wished I could get out there now and try it but I have to work. But maybe I'll ask the wife if she wants to go for a ride in the country this weekend. lol Unit is nice and just as expected. Thanks again!
  21. I have a eTrex Legend HCx and it uses the data cable also, I also have a one of the blue models that is just the Legend, no H, no C. The data cable also works on it. As a matter of fact, I lost my garmin supplied cable and have used a little one that came with a Creative MP3 player. It works fine. Are you sure there isn't another problemw with it?
  22. (emphasis added by me) A series of puzzle/multi/adventure caches following side plots and/or providing background stories for the film would be awesome. And while it'll likely never happen again on this site, check out the history of the Project A.P.E. caches. Why would something like Project A.P.E. not happen again?
  23. Central Pennsylvania here and would be happy to hide one for you. Let me know what you need and when.
  24. If the CO is telling the truth, it sounds like difference of opinoin between the HM and AHM. Maybe some type of bad blood there and has just boiled over into this. Thing is it drags geocaching into it. "And here are more of those annoying people hiding crap all over the place and people searching it out." I think what OP did was acceptable and was trying to help appease the land manager (whether assistant or not, that guy was the one in charge at the time) and also trying to keep a fellow cacher's cache active. But at times when you try to help, you are the one who ends up looking like the bad guy. I would have done the same thing as OP; but I guess the other real course of action would have been to hand the cache to the AHM, have him hold onto it, and send a message to CO and reviewer informing them of the situation and let those three sort it all out.
