  1. I'm getting the same "Plugin not installed" or "No devices found" when I connect my eTrex and my Nuvi. The Garmin plugin is up to date, but GC is not recognizing it. I use my eTrex when I'm out on the bike with the handlebar attachment so there is no risk to my phone. I will use the phone if need be once I get to GZ for the cache page, but the gpsr is much more accurate. Odie
  2. No it wasn't mine... but I think I know which one it was. This one was off the trail like you said but it got wiped out because of Tropical Storm Lee. It was titled Twenty-Five Thousand and Caching. It was a tribute cache towards CCCooperAgency for their 25,001 finds. Here's the Link.... http://coord.info/GC1H329 Odie
  3. I have a 25 year old Whites Coinmaster MD that is not only very reliable, but is water proof and can usually pick up a wide area along the edges (not just under it). I only use it once in a while, but will pull it out in the winter if I know there will be serious snow to deal with. I found alot of other stuff besides caches while out caching. If there is anything with metal in it (pen, spool on the top of a note pad, cache itself, travel bug's) I can usually grab it. Best part is it only runs on 4 AA's and 1 9V. You can usually find a good used one at a local metal detector shop (check your local yellow pages), craig's list, or eBay for a pretty good price. Sometimes you can even score one at a yard sale when a community has their big neighborhood sales. Odie
  4. GC2D24Y - Using your "ESP!" Have fun with this one.... I actually was albe to find a way to make a puzzle out of tokens others have been collecting from other caches. The best part about it is the puzzle will actually get harder as it gets older because of cachers dropping (up to 5) their tokens in the ESP box. Now granted I am in Pennsylvania and I had received my tokens (and then coins) after following the rules set forth. I receive the newsletter from ESP and find alot of the stuff in there informative, plus some of the recipes are pretty tasty. I see no difference in the tokens as saying we will have our "Event" at a local eatery or other type of buisness. That is also the same as advertising for a corperation. Or when you have a cache with SBUX in the title. We all know that means Starbucks, but isn't that advertising? I was not happy when my cache was originally declined because I had made a reference to the tokens in the decsription, but understood and I changed it and it got posted. Just my $0.02, but I'm just another cacher that just enjoys the game. See you on the trail. Odie
  5. I've actually recycled some of my quarter series caches as stages for multi's where I have an embosing label maker (the type you turn the letter wheel and squeeze the trigger) and just make the next set of coords and put it inside. Odie
  6. The York County Geocaching Society is proud to announce the 2010 "Fear Factor... LIVE!" Geocaching Event. Two side-by-side Pavillions have been rented at John Rudy Park for this years event which will be held on Sunday, September 5th, 2010. This is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend so mark your calenders now! Each pavillion holds over 100 people so we will have plenty of accomodations rain or shine. There are also 3 horseshoe pits and a playground nearby as well as the many other facilities that John Rudy Park has to offer. This year we are putting the "LIVE" in Fear Factor... Live! There might still be some body parts to deal with but we are incorporating as many living creatures into the games this year as we can. I found an exotic pet store owner who is even more evil than me! This years games are featuring... 1) A completely separate Fear Factor games for the kids, if they participate, they win! 2) The "Fear Factor... LIVE!" games for adults with the emphasis on the word LIVE! 3) The YCGS Challenge! In this event, the York County Geocaching Society Challenges any other geocaching group brave enough to compete. Like all of the Fear Factor Games... you gotta play to win! There will be friends, fun, food and fear. What more can you ask for? We had over 200 people last year and I hope to break 300 (or more) this year so mark your calendars and plan to attend and we will see if... "Fear is a Factor For You!" Last Years Fear Factor... LIVE! event was just plain AWESOME. Here is a link to last years GC1TVN8 if you want to read about it. Here is a link to the John Rudy Park York County (York, PA) where this years event will be held. I or another local will more than likely post the specific GC# when the event is posted. Odie
  7. I have a couple premium caches out there... and my reason is I just watch to see who has visited the page. Its actually kind neat to see where some of the people hail from that look at the descriptions. Odie
  8. Themed caches are great whether they are a full series of caches that tell a story or just one or two regulars. I have a series out right now that are themed based on a different series I had. Check out the Bookmark here. As for some regular type of themed caches, I have 2 but if anyone would want to copy them I would only ask that you send me a notice so I could watch them and keep the title the same, just change the location in the title.. GC219T9 & GC234AC. I'm more than happy to see others start popping up since most that have found these 2 think they are hysterical. Odie
  9. Because I was CITO'ing the area I was in I did trash everything, I kept the container and sent the CO a message. I said if they want the container back just let me know. What if it had been just a road clean up crew that found it and didn't know it was a geocache, it would have totally been pitched. At least I was able to salvage the container. If I don't hear from the CO I will clasify this a salvaged cache that was abandoned. Thank you for all your answers.
  10. GC1DERR This cache is located in Williamsburg behind Busch Gardens inside a resort with a security checkpoint. Now granted you can get to it via the James River by boat, but other than that you must go through the security checkpoint. Odie I have to admit... it was a blast doing this one too.
  11. There was a hole chewed in the side of the holder. The CO has not been on since May, 2009. and the log that was inside was a lot more than wet. The spot was so nasty I was surprised when I picked it up to CITO that it was in fact a cache. The container inside the holder was opened and that is why the log was destroyed. I can tell from the area that nobody has looked for this. I sent off an email, but no response.
  12. If you come across a cache that has been archived for almost a year (or longer) and the CO of the original is no longer in the game. Would you claim the container as Geotrash and clean up and reuse the container? I stumbled onto a geocache during an outting today and turns out it has been archived for almost a year. I was doing a little CITO when I found it while looking for another nearby. The CO is no longer available so am I wrong in keeping the container, or should I have left it to trash up the area? Odie
  13. GC2583V - 10 Years! G.O.T.C.H.A. coming to Hershey. This event location will by far will have the most people in attendance wether they are Cachers or Muggles. I would venture to guess there will be at least 150,000 people (or more) there during May 2nd considering it is the opening weekend for Hersheypark. Odie
  14. I would agree that its not a find, but then again it is up to the CO to make that call. If the cacher has a disablility that prevents then from finding this cache then they should not have gone for it in the 1st place, but if it does not say in the description (D/T rating can be misleading, I always expect higher than posted) then they may not have known it was up a tree. I myself and my girls have gotten credit for a find from a CO (who was there at the time) for finding a cache that was located on a disc golf course. The CO and myself didn't feel comfortable with allowing my girls out on the course during a game and the CO gave us credit. I even left a geocoin with the CO to place into the container when he went to check on it. Odie
  15. I myself have only been approached 1 time and that was after I was coming out of a freezing cold creek after wading across waist deep water. I had not yet had my tags made for "The Beast" and had to explain what I was doing. Officer Friendly was very cool with it and now geocaches himself with his boys. He also explained the game to his commander and now they explain it to the new recruits at the State Police training facility nearby. The only other time I got a phone call was about one of my caches that a pastor had given permission for but neglected to inform the congregation about it and someone called the police after seeing another cacher playing with a light bonnet. Anyway after all was said and done I had tags made for my vehicle ("The Beast") and I have not yet been stopped or asked. I have had a vehilce pull up behind me and then drive off while waiving. Check out the picture below. I have one one the back and one on each side to look official. Plus now since I have new more off-road capable tires and suspension he looks (and is) more off-road capable and fits the tags well. Odie
  16. Oh and to make the event in Hershey even more fun... Hersheypark is going to be Open which means Thousands of people. Whether there all geocachers is a different story. This would be a great event for a Lackey to show up at. Odie
  17. You can do that with your puzzle if you want. As long as you have it in the cache description of the Puzzle itself that you need to find the others first to get the coords your fine. We have some good puzzles up near us in the Hershey area. Check this one out. It's out G.O.T.C.H.A. Challenge - Final ( GC160ZF ) Then you got a fun one that I myself and still working on Oops... Our Bad GCQNC8 Odie
  18. Yes there is one for Central Pennsylvania planned. It's "10 Years! G.O.T.C.H.A. Coming to Hershey" GC2583V and is set for May 2nd at Hershey Chocolate World at Hersheypark. Odie
  19. So you remove the old log and reuse the container and make it your own. A free container is better than a bought one. Odie
  20. I myself have one ( GC23B5R ) where you need to follow a video to reach the final location (or do you?), and there is a mystery multi near Reading, PA ( GC17VAR ) that you must listen to a recording of a morse code to get the stage 1 coordinates. Both of these are premium member caches. Watching or listening should be fine, but I think with the threat of viruses and/or identity theft I myself would frown apon a download file. Odie
  21. Since I now know most of the cachers in the area where I look it is always nice to run into someone. I've had people approach me in parking lots when I wasn't even caching because of the "Official Geocaching Survey Vehicle" tags (see below), and also had people honk and wave their GPSr's at me while driving too. As for bumping into on the trail or at GZ, yeah it happens and it is always nice to meet up with others and share stories. Best one I had was actually while I was at work and had a resident (I work in a hospital) look at my computer and coment about my background picture. She stated "Okay, I need to ask, did you find the container?" There was no picture of me or the cache anywhere in it, I just had the picture because of the scenery. I turned and asked "And what container would you be talking about?" (with a devilish smile) She in turn said "Yeah, I've been there 4 times and still have not yet found it." We then got started talking about caching, and had to give her a hint as to where it was. Odie "Official Geocaching Survey Vehicle" tags on "The Beast" (have one on rear and one on each side door)
  22. Yes, but it was during my lunch break. I've grabbed 2 caches and even popped in on an event. Thankfully none of my coworkers bother with geocaching, their to busy hiding their noses elsewhere thats plenty warm. Odie
  23. I have one even better that this. GC23B5R in this cache you need to follow a video in which I personally show you to the final hide area. Only problem is you have to judge is the cache there (when you find andview the video) or at the actual posted coordinates. Odie
  24. Coolest thing I found was a container with ash from the Mount Saint Helens eruption. 2nd coolest thing is the ammo can that had a couple uncut geodes in them for the kids to take. Odie
