  1. Some ways south of me in a small town that has a great bakery, a cache is a fake electrical box that requires a screwdriver to open. Even though I could tell it was the cache because we could see a baggie inside, I choose to ignore it. I've seen too many of these and have just gotten tired. There are too many great scenic areas to go to - clever urban caches no longer have much attraction for me anymore. I saw an archive log on a cache recently where the owner realized that it was not in an area that he would feel proud to bring an out-of-town visitor to. This is my $.02 worth and only my opinion.
  2. Me personally, I'm not boycotting the county challenge but neither am I actively following it. If, in my normal set of travels, I happen to find a cache in a county, then that cache might count toward it. If I ever get to the point where I've found a cache in all the counties, then I might come look for the challenge cache. That's how I'm approaching all the challenge caches out there and probably how I'd approach the proposed KCTG challenge as well. Thus I'm not going to advertise my progress toward any of the goals of any of the challenges until that challenge may be met. I much prefer to go someplace that I'd like to explore and see what caches are in the area. I've found some pretty nice places that have surprised me in their beauty. (BTW, cache for Alphabet Soup was pretty nice and a pleasant surprise.)
  3. I wonder how many pages don't have a cache on them? Just curious.
  4. Of the five that ran early this morning for me, I think I received them from Comast. They trickled in all morning every now and again. Yesterdays look like they got lost in the ether somewhere.
  5. Issues still seem to be happening with Comcast. See this forum for a related issue: PQ Email Problem (12/21)
  6. I got this note from Groundspeak today: And this response from Comcast. Requests made of both parties. Not sure what else to do besides find another provider. So sad....
  7. I have received test emails too but not the PQs so far. I can afford to be patient with those as I had to work today.
  8. All five off mine ran last night. Only one of them was received on my email address. I had thought that the issue may be related to the issues of Comcast not showing GC generated emails on the web. (see Problems with owner emails from Groundspeak ) (edited for correct forum issue)
  9. Yep, the ones I had scheduled yesterday ran this morning. Now will those scheduled to run today go too?
  10. I think I found most of the caches that were in this park in the last couple years. I wonder which came first, did a cache placement cause a social trail or did a pre-existing social trail make the placement of a cache easier? I can only think of one placement that was questionable but it was a difficult puzzle so not very many people visited it, thus no social trail resulted. I remember a newspaper article a couple years ago about letterboxing. An enthusist implied there were dozens of letterboxes in the park. It's too bad that preconcieved notions are taking hold. Pity.
  11. I also heard that the fire hydrant and ladder were removed. Anyone got an extra one of those? You probably should use a metal post with a concrete base. Still up for it? I didn't see either the fire hydrant nor the ladder when I was up there last year.
  12. $200? Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle! I guess you need to be really, really dedicated to do that. It will keep the vandalism common on their land a few years back to a minimum though.
  13. Here's some history about the mailboxes that the director of the camp below the peak told me: If you choose to go up in the winter, there is grave danger of avalanches on the top third.
  14. Sad to say, my impression is that this happens now and again. Not the first time it's happened and not the last either. BTW, this isn't a hike that should be taken lightly in the snow.
  15. As Pogo used to say, "Gack! Looks like Friday the thirteenth falls on a Tuesday this month"
  16. So far I've been loving these two points. And the bugs. Lots less of them too. =) And don't forget about being able to walk on top of the snow right over those nasty bushwhacks. Why, whatever made you think of that..... LOL. I turned down an opportunity to do that cache last year when I saw this:
  17. The road to Talapus lake has been repaired. The road to Barclay Lake is closed for the winter. - WTA News Report
  18. It's still dark this morning on the wet side but the weather is foggy and the temperature is cool in the upper 30s with the threat of sun today.
  19. Taken at 4200' with about 4" on the ground on Saturday while visiting KE Spunky Cache - Mt Sobieski Cache And not far away at Wildfire
  20. From the WSGA website is recently added guidlines: Although the cache is not placed near a headstone (as I recall,) it is a memorial and I can see why some local folk would be offended by the placement of this cache. Is this cache respectful? I personally don't know but would error on the side of caution. I have found caches in cemetaries that are respectfull and others that might not be.
  21. However disapointing it was that there wern't more people at the dinner, it turned out well. I was way too tired to be too sociable, but I did get to chat with some old and new friends. There were many generous folks who contributed beyond what was necessary and they deserve thanks. Thanks, Travis, for your work and planning. I enjoyed my time there and look forward to the future cache machines!
  22. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Is this a unique requirement of Alpine Lakes Wilderness or is it applicable to all Wilderness Areas?
  23. If people can carpool for a couple of miles, the Starbucks at Station Drive has a very large parking lot directly across from it that is used by any number of people that aren't frequenting the shops in that area. The address is 1100 Station Drive, Dupont, WA. You can see the map here. Another fine parking spot is on Manchester Pl. It has been an undeveloped cul-de-sac for years, and the aerial still shows there is no development there. There is a connecting gravel road to Mitchell Avenue to aid your walk in. michelle Thanks for the info Michelle. Now that I think about the first spot, I believe that is where I sometimes leave my truck when I go to Ft. Lewis to work, there is also a Subway right there. So if we park at the end of Mitchell Ave., we will see the access? You might also try from the south from Bell Hill Dr. A couple years ago, it was an undeveloped circle. Read past logs for hints on access points.
