  1. For my entire state, there are a whole 9 Terracaches. There are 9 Geocaches within .7 miles of my home. As much as this game isn't a numbers hunt, I'd much rather like to be doing Geocaching for more than 9 caches. I find the whole idea of Terracaches kinda boring, especially since they stress "quality" yet they really aren't all that much better than an ammo can in the woods sort of cache. And aren't nearly as plentiful.
  2. I hate being in high traffic areas! Makes me feel very awkward. I've hidden one tiny micro, but that was in an appropriate place, with little traffic to worry about. I wouldn't ever go to Florida and hunt for these micros. Well, maybe if it was a rainy day or I broke my legs in a fall...
  3. I agree, I had trouble with this just recently, actually. Placed a cache (not a multi though) in a perfect spot, no caches around... but of course, there was a final to a puzzle there. How silly of me! Took me a while, but I finally got back and moved it to a completely different location. It would be nice if there were a solution that could be found for this, but somehow I doubt that will ever happen.
  4. I would consider it an agenda if there was anything in your listing supporting The Boulder Project, or The Access Fund... but just mentioning them I would think should be fine. Oh how I want to climb Gunks someday...
  5. I was a little surprised to come back to geocaching and find locationless caches had been "removed". Of course, lots changes in 4 years. But I could see, even when I logged my one locationless cache, that it could get out of hand. The one I did was hard to abuse though, thankfully.
  6. Squirt and I found several "PathTags" in Tennessee this week but I can't quite figure out what to do with them. We created an account and added them to our collection. Now what? If we drop them in a cache somewhere do they stay in our collection? Does the next finder also add it to thier collection? Yes, they stay in your collection forever and ever, unless you physically go in there and delete them. Yes, the next finder adds it to their collection as well (if they want). You can choose to keep them as neat little collectible sig items, or move them on to caches, it's up to you.
  7. That's a neat way to use Homebrew. I never thought my little 25 dollar card could be so useful! I don't need to use it for caching, but it sure sounds nifty for anyone else that doesn't have other options to use. Thanks for working out the steps!
  8. I would cut short your taking of what you deem garbage at McToys. I know lots of kids who get overly excited when they find a cache that contains a new toy they can take. Obviously if the toy is broken, then by all means remove it. But I know some cachers that have kids and the kids get pretty disappointed when there aren't any toys in the cache.
  9. Sometimes people don't have the money to afford decent swag. And as others have said, one man's trash is indeed another man's treasure. If it is that trashy, take a baggie and take out the actual garbage that is in there and help fix it up that way, rather than barking about it on the forums.
  10. If you thought knives were bad, try finding a syringe. Disgusted me to no end. The person who left it even kindly put a piece of masking tape on it and wrote "It's Clean" in pencil. I wouldn't sniff at finding a pocket knife in a cache though. I've even thought of trading for one or two of them.
  11. I'm thinking of making an event to go out to Pie Island up by Thunder Bay to get the cache that has never been found, placed back in 2002. It would classify a 5 star terrain event, and probably a 3 or 4 star difficulty, due to the extreme nature of the hike to the actual location. A 5/5 event would be crazy! Sounds like a neat idea though. (:
  12. Sorry that you don't quite understand the aspect of obtaining permission for a commercial cache like Delorme did. It says it right there in the guidelines. Quit beating the dead horse.
  13. I use a product called Sawyer Gold, it's got plenty of DEET in it and I'm not twitching or having an aneurysm yet. I am paranoid about having ticks on me, but I always seem to pick them up. Same with mosquitoes... I think my blood is sweet or something. Just a thorough check when I step out of the woods, and a very thorough check when I take a shower that night keeps the ticks off. Thankfully the deer ticks here are not that bad, as I'm awful at spotting those tiny little buggers.
  14. The thing with power trails is that if you place enough caches in an area, you're effectively butting out anyone else that may want to come along and place a cache there. That's one side of the power-trail struggle. Placing caches .10 or even .15 apart doesn't allow anyone else to place one in between your 9.
  15. Ahh, i've spoken to Semper on the Pathtags forum... Ouch, what an accident that was. He should win an award.
  16. If your son likes golf balls so much, you guys should take a trip up to Duluth sometime this year. I just placed GC1BB9P a few days ago. Someone who found it logged that they picked up 35 golf balls from the area. The cache is placed in the woods next to a golf course. As far as trade up or trade even, I like to abide by that rule as best I can. Especially when it comes to trackable items like bugs and coins. McToys are fine for kids, but I see too many caches filled with junk that I feel that McToys should be banned. On the other hand, if the cache owner is attentive to caches and cleans them out frequently, the whole cache experience can be pretty good. And ew, I'd never want to find a dental floss pick in a cache.
  17. If I knew I was coming back to the states in a matter of one or two weeks, I wouldn't want to adopt out my caches only to re-adopt them when I return; especially if I didn't have a reliable internet connection to deal with all the adoptions and emails and whatever else is involved. Just because they're stuck in Nigeria with a poor satellite signal internet connection doesn't mean they're lazy. Sure, it would have been nice if they had gotten someone to care for the caches while they were out of the country, but they didn't. Human error. Toss the caches on a watchlist and wait for the owner to come back is all you can do now. Patience grasshopper!
  18. What a great story, albeit this guy gets a little too creative in his blogging it seems, lol! I can picture plenty of muggles reacting the same way to caches.
  19. I don't know if you're aware of this yet: http://www.mngca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t...asc&start=0 MN cachers are planning a canoe/kayak event this summer. And if you're interested in a REAL adventure, check out GCBD8E.
  20. Wow. I hope I never find anything from this CO, as they seem to be a little terse in the public-relations field. Wish I knew who it was so I can avoid them.
  21. I carry around ziplocs and extra notepads in my Geo-bag, and carry extra containers in the back of my car. I think I've got a couple ready-made caches as well, in different sizes, in case I find a location that would be perfect for a cache whilst out on my travels. I find that I use the baggies the most, as there are many cachers who will report that a bag is ripped or unsealable but don't replace it because they didn't have a spare. I need to stock up my supplies as well. Time to walk away with a few extra golf pencils at the school library!
  22. THAT is neat. I might just do that, because I'm that crazy. At least it will never get muggled.
  23. Looks interesting, but I'd be concerned about unsuspecting cachers taking it as swag.
  24. Having been away from the Geocaching game for 4 years and just recently starting Geocaching again, I was OVERWHELMED by the amount of trackable items that were in existence compared to when I started back in 2004. I don't think geocoins had been invented then, or at least I had never seen them before. It was travel bugs or nothing, and I was fine with that then. Then when I started caching 2 months ago, I found out all these different things called Geocoins. Wow, what a bunch of stuff. I couldn't believe there were THAT MANY out there. I missed a lot while I was gone! But I also found trackable pins, pathtags, even custom geocoins that people made at home with a TB # on them... Crazy. Of course, now I've gotten into Pathtags, and trade like crazy. It's just amazing to see how much things can change here over the course of a couple years, so it wouldn't surprise me if more trackable items could be invented and the next new craze.
