  1. All those that came in are even, except for My Finds, which is odd numbered. It's been a few hours now and it still hasn't run. Highly unusual.
  2. 3 of the 9 PQs I started today did not run after more than an hour. They haven't been this slow in a long time, wondering if they're stuck. Anyone else seeing this?
  3. I find it easier to just log field notes from the app, if I need to go back to the site to change the log anyway. I find the timestamp issue to be irksome, since it may mess up the order of display of caches I find if I log from app and web on the same day. At least it doesn't mess up the date for me since California is in the same time zone as Seattle
  4. Don't be that way just because people are skeptical. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Send your PQ to Groundspeak - actually, if it is still in your queue, a lackey can just take a look at it, so send them an email : http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=request I checked my PQs. There are no extra files and no suspicious bits of binary data in any of them. Did you download from the "download now" link in the email, or directly from the "pocket queries ready for download" tab?
  5. I kinda like the new default avatar. It's an improvement, the old one always seemed a little... unpolished. I was just making fun of the fact that there is always someone griping about change. Don't forget to mod the new default avatar with a sad face for your avatar
  6. It worked fine for me on my Chromebook and my phone (Android 4.4.4). I wonder how many people will complain that the old avatar is better and that they want it back...
  7. Rather than criticize the short-comings of the new (beta) messaging system here, I'd like to thank Groundspeak for doing two things : 1) not removing the old system immediately. 2) seeking feedback in the survey These were lacking in some previous feature roll-outs, and I think many of us appreciate it. I know I do. Thank you.
  8. I got this when attempting to reply to a message : A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue. Script: https://www.geocaching.com/account/bundles/plugins?v=_VIceumNJ5CCXbxduk7HsYlwOtcVoDY2DccGf6Z2MHM1:1
  9. It's not just Germany this time. Accessing from California is agonizingly slow, even for normal cache page loads. This messaging system seems similar to Facebook's. I'll use it a bit more before deciding if I like it or not. I wish Groundspeak did an anonymous remailer instead.
  10. Minor cosmetic bug. In "Recently Viewed Caches" page, the "Log a cache" box, there is no space between "Search for Geocaches" and "near your home location". It's a 1 character fix. The HTML : Search for Geocaches<a id="ctl00_ContentBody_hlSearchByLocation" href="/seek/nearest.aspx?lat=xxx&lng=-yyy">near your home location</a> I see this in Firefox 36.0.1, Windows 7, no Greasemonkey installed.
  11. I blam the this childishness on the fact there are way too many challange caches out there now. This Mr.Yuck situation has me feeling disillusioned. So much so, I am taking a break from these forums for a while. I encourage anyone else feeling disillusioned to also take a break. Some argue that there are too many caches of all types. But while it may affect how some choose to play, one should not let it affect how you enjoy the game. If it stops being fun, I'll stop playing. I don't want others to affect my enjoyment so I ignore them as much as possible. I heard that a couple of other forum regulars were also given the permanent boot in the forums here. If such actions is meant to be a deterrent, they should be made known to those who participate in the forums. Some of us are confused why certain people are banned while others are not. Color me disillusioned as well, but I neither encourage nor discourage anyone from participating in the forums here. As I had said before, I learned a lot here, and in my own small way I hope I had helped a few people with technical issues. I had taken a voluntary break in the past, and I think I will take one again.
  12. How did you check to see if they are copied? They might just be too far away to be visible in a search. Check the map where at least one of the caches is supposed to be. Zoom in to be sure. It might help to show us what is in your Garmin\GPX folder.
  13. You can try to use the new search tool, but I can't seem to get it to work without entering a location. If I enter California, I find 1 : Laughing Sal GCBD0A in San Francisco. I'm not sure if project-gc has such a tool. I tried to use it, but it logged me out a few days ago, and I can't authenticate myself right now (they disabled it temporarily).
  14. OK, that's it. Adding "hazmat suit" to geocaching supplies. Curious me had to Google "Moldy hazmat suits". Antiseptic wipes. Bring 'em. I'm actually more concerned about breathing it in, though not concerned enough to wear a face mask when caching. I always carry wet wipes with me when caching. Speaking of antiseptic wipes, I read with some wry amusement about the recall of some antiseptic wipe due to bacterial contamination. Wait, what? There's also news some time ago that Triclosan, one of the chemicals used for antibacterial soap, may cause muscle problems.
  15. I'm going to party like it was 1592. Should you log it as find #31415 or #31416? To be safe, attend two events

  17. If this is for a cache in the local area of the OP, and he has a PQ or PQ set that contains that cache, all of his logs will be downloaded, regardless of type. If this is not for a cache in the local area of the OP, and the OP has a general idea of when the log was created, or if the OP does not have too many of that type of log, he can search for it using http://www.geocaching.com/my/geocaches.aspx
  18. If you don't want to use GSAK, and if the text is unique enough, you can just open the GPX that contains that log entry with a text editor, and do a text search. For text editors, you can use Notepad (that comes with Windows). I highly recommend the free Notepad++ if you don't mind installing another program. Once you find the text entry, just go back until you find the GC code.
  19. On the eTrex Venture HC, a geocache is just a specially marked waypoint. What software do you use to do the transfer? I used GSAK when I had the eTrex Venture HC, and it worked perfectly.
  20. I know people who log a day or two later, and never bothered adjusting the system default date, either because they couldn't be bothered, or they didn't realize they made a mistake. Tracking down a missing trackable is usually an exercise in futility in my experience.
  21. Wait, what happened to Mr Yuck (or the cacher formerly known as TheWhiteUrkel)? Yeah .... me too. He always seemed to have good words of wisdom. I have a friend that was doing some streak or other, and he just left unfound caches in the area so he could go out the days he needed a cache, and not have to go far. I thought Mr Yuck always contributed to a positive forum community experience. He was a wealth of knowledge about geocaching and forum history. Sad day. I'd sure like to know why! But anyway... to those that have posted that they see this (being concerned about deliberately logging the wrong date) there is more to it than simply cheating the system. When you do that, you are misleading both the cache owner, and future finders about the state of the cache. Agree about Mr.Yuck. I've always seen his posts as a positive contribution even during the times I disagree with his opinion. As for fudging dates, I wouldn't bat an eyelid over a day or two (though I might roll my eyes if someone brought it to my attention). But if someone finds 30 caches in a day and spreads the logs over a month, yeah, that could be very misleading.

  23. You probably wouldn't log caches which someone from your team has found when you weren't there or you were sleeping at the time. But there are people who do. And I doubt it's just about smileys. It's about that whole challenge cram and saying 'yeah, I did it, 600 caches a day'. I think stats and badges play a role in this as well.
  24. To be pedantic, nobody needs to find even one cache out there. And you can find a challenge cache if you want to, it is merely logging it online as found when you haven't qualified that is verboten.
