1. That worked great. On a 24k dial-up at home and had no problems. I had an Ebay search all set up ready to go in another window. I was searching 'Lighthouse geocoins geocoin' and searching both title and description. You learn to do that if you look at Ebay long enough; their search most of the time is too specific. I snagged a gold and 2 bronze. I really like not having to pay until I'm done shopping. You don't have to fool with PayPal until your ordering is complete. And it even looked like Ebay kept going without a hitch, although PayPal seemed to take a long time to update. Thought for a minute that it was going to kick me off.
2. Just looked at your site and to buy one of your coins is $6.00 plus $3.95 s/h. That's a whopping $9.95. It does, however, drop to $8.00 per coin if you order 2. On the other hand my new coin cost me all of $3.85 each (If I were to sell them, which I'm not). $1.25 covers envelope and shipping.
3. I object to being called an "icon collector"!!! Bambi. PS What are the coins you can't trade? We are always interested in new coins, but we don't have much to give you in exchange... If you fancy releasing them, you could sent them to us and we'll tag them and release them here on your behalf... Drop us a line if you are interested! I hope you didn't think I consider 'Icon Collector' a bad term. Far from that. I've show my coin collection to some people who look at my like I'm crazy for spending money on those things. "You've spent how much on... coins? I think each person finds their own 'niche' in this game. That's the idea. As far as coins I can't trade away , that was a bit of an overstatement. I have coins in my 'to trade' collection that I have had for a long time; Calgary, Texas, Alaska that are more 'slow movers' than anything. Texas and Alaska are trackable but not 'GC trackable', so that cuts the demand for them. The Calgary coin is numbered, but not trackable at all. I recently took a nontrackable MiGO coin, drilled a hole in it and attached a TB tag to it, just to get it out into the wild. It's been picked up but not released yet . I also sent a New Jersey, a New Mexico, and a MiGO coin to the Czech Republic to be released to travel Europe. Hopefully they'll last a little longer over there. We'll see. As you can guess, my faith in coins lasting any length of time in the wild is about zero.
4. That's an interesting observation because I thought just the opposite; the Stone Mountain coin is a nice design, but very similar to many others. While the Peach is such a different design it begs for attention. Although I haven't held them together, I think the peach will be an outstanding coin and will be a premium trade coin. I also wouldn't judge demand based on one auction. The only person who knows why the coins sold for what they did is the person who bought them. I feel, on average, the peach will end up selling higher than the SM. Wait until 6 or 8 of each have been sold. I also think coin prices will go down. I'd like gasoline prices to drop also, but that's not likely either. As long as the demand is there and people are more willing to buy rather than trade, prices will stay right where they are - higher than they should be. Although if I were any good at predicting human nature, I'd be rich in the stock market.
5. THAT GOT IT! Finially! Thanks so much, I thought I was the only one in the world who couldn't figure this out. I use the BACK button and my links so much I never go back through the page links. Thanks again
6. Back to this again. I am entering my password and it says that I've updated my information, but... As far as the 'Forums update link', I haven't done this. I assumed (my first mistake) that updating my profile carried over to the forums. I've looked for the link but have not been able to locate where it is at. Can someone point a blind guy in the right direction? Thanks.
7. That's my position about geocoins! How does one determine the "quality" of geocoins? I haven't seen a coin yet that stood out from the pack either as particularly good or particularly bad. My boss likes the coins with color. I prefer the all metal one. The designs are all attractive and clever. The coins are different sizes, have different edges, cost different amounts. What is the standard of "quality" when judging these coins. The fact that every minting is unique gives even an "ugly" (whatever that means) coin a significant value as a collectable. Even a virtually blank coin would be unique. Nomad of Nomad and the Librarians What makes one painting more desirable than another? Some people like Rembrandt, some Monet, others Van Gogh. Are any of them better than the others? Some may think so because they have their own preferences. I just like collecting coins. I particularly like coins that are simple with little color (Alaska). Others like a lot of color (Joe Frog). Still others like an intricate coin like military coins. Some people think a coin is a waste of time if it's not trackable. Some icon collectors take it one step farther and want that individualized icon, not the personal 'cents' icon. I've seen coins that are not trackable in demand (a lot of personal coins) and state coins that are trackable, that I just can't trade away. It also has to do with availability. Why are MiGO seasonal coins in such demand? They're nice looking, but I've seen nicer (again, personal opinion). Because there's only 100 made? There are others that there were only 100 made that are nowhere near as in demand. Big? Small? The 'high demand' coins I've seen, in general are - 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" diameter - Some color, but not completely covered - Between 300 and 500 available - GC Trackable - 'Elegant' is the only word I can think of to describe the design (think of Moun10bikes cycler - simple but easily recognizable) There are always exceptions and I'm not knocking someones coin that doesn't fit the above. Again, it's like paintings; some people like one thing, others like something else. If that weren't the case, someone would make one coin and everyone would be happy with it. If you can figure out what makes certain coins collectable and others not, you've got a jump on everyone else.
8. I made an Excel workbook with several spreadsheets; 1 for coins I have with pictures, 1 for trades, 1 for our personal coin trades, and 1 for keeping track of coins I'm watching threads on and what I've bought (when, how much, how it was paid for). It's worked pretty good although I've replaced the first page with TheCachingPlace.com. I like this one over Cointracking.com because I have a slow dial-up connection at home and it runs faster than Cointracking.
9. Another point to make that several people have mentioned here. I connect at home on a 24K dialup. I have never connected at anything faster than 26.6K. I made the cut on the Georgia Peach coin, although I'm not sure if I was in the overflow crowd or not. I got a Geoghost by being on time, watching for the post (which was on time by the way), and ordering as fast as I could. I was in the middle of that group and I was connected at 21k that day. So when I hear that a dial up connection excludes you from getting any of the LE or limited number of coins, I say you have to learn to type faster because you can get those coins on a dialup.
10. I have missed a coin in the past with email ordering in place. I sent the email very early on (10:30am) in the process. My email didn't show up to the seller until 6:40pm that evening. The coins sold out about 1pm. I figured I had easily made the cut but was informed that my email was received well after the cutoff time. I suspect it wasn't a problem on my end because 4 or 5 other people commented in the forum that they had the same problem. I don't know what the answer is. I liked the EBay solution, but you add another layer of someone to get their proverbial 'fingers in the pie' and it ends up costing more money from either the buyer (higher cost) or the seller (lower profit) or possibly both. But then again, if PayPal can do a limited number sell, but it costs more money, what's the difference? If the Georgia coin sale broke PayPal couldn't it also break EBay?
11. I sent 3 coins out today; a MiGO, a New Jersey, and a New Mexico. Hope they have a long and interesting life.
12. Probably couldn't find it in a search because of the spelling error. Too Funny
13. sig test. this change should have shortened it to a MiGO link only.
14. I cut and pasted your code directly into my profile. Must be it's taking a while to update the info, because my profile hasn't changed yet. As I mentioned above, when I put this coding into the body of my post, It hyperlinked everything as it should have done. Just doesn't seem to work when I insert it into my profile. I'll keep trying.
15. Not sure which forum button you're talking about? I've been making changes to my main GC profile. EDIT - If you're talking about the MENU column when I click on my name at the top of the page where it says Logged in as: Shasties (Log Out) yes this is where I go. It takes me right to my GC profile page.
16. OK, I tried writing in UBB rather than HTML and I'm still brain-dead for some reason. What I have is listed here Our Coin Collection - Our New Coin - MiGO Am I just not seeing my mistake or what? If I try posting this without the CODE brackets, it turns to hyperlinks and takes me to where I want to go, so methinks it's written OK. Just won't work as part of my profile.
17. Coin budget just reset itself, so I ordered a silver one. Man, do I like those silver coins....
18. I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt this way Me too. I'd much rather see an actual coin, but I understand the dilemma. You pay anywhere from 7 to 12 dollars to purchase a coin and have it shipped to your house. It gets released with high expectations, and some bone-brain comes along and thinks he/she deserves the coin more than you do. It amazes me what people will do when no one is looking that they would never do with other people around. I read something once that said 'Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching'.
