  1. Hm. That's a good start, but I don't see GSAK nor Cachemate included on that page. Are the products on this page ones that were developed by people at Geocache.com, and no others are allowed to be included?

Products that are not free will not be listed there.

  2. Just an observation...

I will be traveling to Moscow next month and thought that Russia (being so large) should have LOTS of caches. WRONG!!! ONLY 12!?!?!?!

The closest to Moscow is 60K. Might be tough to get my first Russian cache.

  3. A suggestion for the documentation.

Many people post here saying they do not understand how to get caches installed on their Palm. I can't see in the Cachemate documation file where it says a conversion utility is needed.

People follow the step by step getting started section, and then don't see anything to tell them what to do next.

Maybe it should have another step saying that either caches can be entered manualy, entered using the memo template, or uploaded from pocket queries using a conversion utility.

I just helped Maeglin with a Quick Start instructions. I hope this helps you.

Here is the help file I was speaking of. Again...this is a GREAT piece of software and a bargain at $7.

  4. I would like to get a USB Serial adapter to use with my laptop, and Magellan Meriplat.

I have seen prices from $112, to $29. Magellan has one for $42.

I was wondering if any one works better than another, and what is a good source at a reasonable price.

    Thanks,

    Frank

I resell this one from USB Gear. Have resold over 500 of them They work GREAT! $33

  6. AvantGo has been around for a very long time now. You can create custom channels for yourself, which will download content from a location based on some criteria you set.

I used to use it in combination with Pocket Queries and GPX Spinner. I would convert the GPX file that was sent from Geocaching to a series of HTML pages and then post them somewhere that AvantGo could see them. I would then sync my channels and go.

The problem is that AvantGo restricts you on channel size to 250K and my set of local caches was more like 900K.

I quickly picked up Plucker which is a much better tool for downloading all of those files, *and* it has much better search capabilities.

I still use AvantGo to read news and get movie listings, but it is just not effective as a paperless Geocaching tool.

I was thinking that if we could do a search straight from geocaching.com...using avantgo to go straight into a pda...no conversion required. THAT WOULD BE COOL!

  7. Typically I leave Tbs in already-visited caches alone. TBs draw visitors, and cache owners deserve to have new visitors drawn to their caches by TBs that end up in them. Sometimes I see the more active cachers in my neighborhood blanket a park with TBs that they have retrieved from other places. They aren't just moving TBs along - they're trying to newer cachers interested in existing caches.

That's just my opinion. Exceptionally interesting TBs serve as exceptions to that rule (of mine.) Of course, I am more likely to go to unfound (by me) caches that have TBs in them.

I do it all the time in our local Airport Travel Bug Hotel. Usually I am swapping, but have been know to help a bug along as I fly out of that airport often.

I guess my point is...not a bad idea if you help the bug along quickly.

  8. Around December 5th, I'll be for business in Orlando for a few days, and I'd like to take a day for doing some caches in the area. I'll probably rent a car, and will be able to drive a few dozens of miles. I'd like to know about nice off the beaten track caches, which may involve some hiking. No urban caches.<BR><BR>Any recommendations?<BR>Thanks!<BR><BR><A HREF="http://www.shunra.net" TARGET=_blank>http://www.shunra.net</A><BR> <BR>' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' 'e' ' ' ' ' ' ' '<BR>' H I D E ' & ' G O ' G E E K ! GREAT cache for swapping bugs.

  9. I would like to have pocket query's that could sort by 2 members...

I go caching with my dad. I would like to be able to sort them for ones we BOTH have not found(we don't alway cache together as he live 1 hour away from me)...What ya think? Possible?

    Thanks Santa,

  10. Would it be possible to do the same thing with the travel bug icon. Clicking there now will send you to the travel bug search page. It would be nice to see what bugs other people have helped move along.

Thanks for all of the work on getting the new forums up. Looks great!

I know this has been asked for before but was also wondering the status of this request.

BTW...Thanks for the new forums. GREAT job guys! ;)
