  1. Went spontaneously caching w/ another cacher so didn't have gpsr loaded. Followed theirs. Later, went to their cache 'found' page to round up what we'd done and log them but cannot access their found logs to see what we did. No link. (Link works to see their hides) Search got me nowhere looking to see if this was a new feature, removing the ability to see the actual list of another's found caches? I am actually behind logging since 2013 due to health issues and rely upon this to round up caches I did while w/ others.. especially since a lot now archived. Thanks in advance.
  2. Please allow us to turn it off... ie: messages can't be sent/received. Not wirelessly connected 24/7 and weary of those who get upset cuz of no response within minutes... or hours. Only online once a day in the mornings but 'message' assumes otherwise. Don't use a smart phone. For some reason people don't get as upset about e/m's not being responded to asap. Annoying on both sides. I see it is right after my username.. and no one goes past that to contact me. My profile plainly states to use 'email' only but no one reads that far. Surprising how many of us do not/will not use it. Would be great to have control of use it or not. Thank you.
  3. After all the long years of hiking and being in the woods, the odds were something had to show up sometime. Last year while out caching, it happened. We'd just found a cache and were on our way to do another when, there was Bigfoot, having a rest by the creek. Imagine our surprise and pleasure. If you want to see them here's the link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...a5-f4661818177d
  4. I've been trying since this morning to generate a PQ. I tick for Sat and Sun generation and I tick "Run this query every week on the days checked" Then I fill in the rest as I've always done. It generates and I can preview the PQ online but the days of the week show now as blank so it isn't being sent to me. Repeat but the day(s) of the week again show blank and the PQ home page shows Never for when run. I finally got one to "take" but it will arrive tomorrow when it's too late. This evening I've tried just ticking today Sat and again get a preview but nothing generates as the 'day of the week' are blank when I view the PQ itself or the My Pocket Queries page. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks.
  5. Allow me to clarify what is really happening here. The cacher in question is not putting on a cache blitz as in a cache machine. Our area is having what we call a contest Blitz where during a set time caches are put out and then judged. He wants to use some archived caches as reference/clues for the hunt of the actual cache he will be hiding, not for folk to log on: My upcoming blitz cache will deal with archived caches. With your permission I would like to use XXXXX / XXXXX/ XXXX/ Or if you have any other ones to recommend. I need permission because I'll be posting cache directions in them. Isonzo Karst, Chilihead and cmelton14 got the right general idea of what is intended I gave him my permission because it sounds like a fun idea and no caching rules will be violated. I can't think of anyone here who would allow Found logs on any archived caches. Just spoke to the hider and posting this with permission as he can't get to a pc right now.
  6. Thanks to JohnnyVegas for the info on uploading photo's here's my trusty boots. I felt I had to replace them as they had finally started leaking but in the research I did looking to replace them I fixed the leak and they are 100% perfect again.
  7. If I understood how to upload pics I'd show you my 36 year old Pivetta's still going strong with original laces and soles. What adventures I've had with them. Done nothing but clean and condition them. After a lot of research I recently bought Meindl Borneo's as a back up pair. They are still nowhere near the quality of the Pivetta's.
  8. I vote with returning to the original format: GC#, cache name, owner. It was efficient and easy to re-look up a cache, now it's time consuming. Thanks in advance and in hope....
  9. Completed the survey and look forward to your results. Good Luck.
  10. Looks like I've joined the club. A Yahoo user and first time I don't seem to be getting gc.com e/m's. I did receive notifications from my Watch list but not the logs posted for my own caches.
  11. Is there a glitch or is there something I need to do re Geocaching.comGoogleMap as it does not show the caches I know to be there. I started a search from my home address and while some came up, some that would show and are in the middle of the map etc do not exist in the search results. So how will I know if in an unfamiliar area that I'm not getting all the caches it should show? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or info.
  12. How do I/anyone contact these cachers if the e/m on their gc.com address won't work? A sporadic cacher(s) with 14 logged finds between Oct 05 to present took a Tb from a cache seemingly acting as if it was a trade item. Partial log c/p below: Took video game, chain, and travel bug. Left hockey card, wind-up monkey toy, and bouncey ball. It appears they do not log all their finds because there is still only one log for my cache of the 5 they said they did that day. I checked their profile and saw they've also had another Tb in their possession since Sept 23/06. I used the "send message" link on their profile to send a friendly e/m explaining the Tb they just took was an owned Traveller not a trade item, a link to the cacher's creed, and as gentle a reminder as I could about the other Tb in their possession. The e/m came back as undeliverable. I cannot find any other cachers that know them.
  13. First off, Thanks for the 4 kind responses. I have looked at all the aforementioned models, doh, and they are too wide. Certainly wider than the SporTrac. Besides looking at the retailers, I've had opportunities when out caching to actually try them out and they were too wide. My hands felt stretched and quickly became painful versus fitting comfortably in my hands. I would have switched to Garmin, as I like the Garmin 60 series but they were too wide for me. Thanks anyway. I can only hope slenderer gpsr's become available.
  14. I can't be the only person with this issue? It appears the gpsr manufacturers haven't been thinking about all their users. I been looking for a new gpsr and they are all so big. My hands are tiny and finding a gpsr I can hold comfortably is difficult. One of the reasons I bought my Magellan SporTrac was because it fit my hand. I'd like to upgrade to a better gpsr and there is nothing I can hold easily. I can't even replace my SporTrac as they are discontinued. Anybody have any ideas? And I hope the various manufacturer kep an eye on these forums so I don't have to contact each one individually reminding them they could sell more if they met their customer's needs...that folk come in all sizes. Money in hand and nothing to spend it on. Sigh. Thanks in advance for any imput...
  15. Snoogans, normal? I don't buy it.. 1) Normal is the second button on the left on the washing machine. 2) I met a couple of normal people once and they scared the heck out of me
  16. I haven't encountered any dead zones re compasses but I placed a cache in an area where a gpsr goes wonky because I found it so fascinating. It baffled, then aroused my curiousity when I could not get anything close to decent co-ords, the gpsr would "blink" and then say I was anywhere from 27k to 87k away and then adjust again. It took me months to get the gpsr to zero out. I'd hoped to get the technical info "why", but it was not to be at this time. I thought it was a good educational experience and since gpsr's have trouble under forest canopy anyway (though not like this!) that it could be an interesting cache. If only I could find a Trimble to visit the cache again. Sigh. It's not for impatient cachers who want easy smiley's. Patience with the gpsr will win out usually and using one's cacher's eyes. And reading every word on the cache page. lol http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8f-36fd1e126272
  17. Ah you just want to cache in a new area. Lucky you. All the Best and study as hard as you cache. That will guarantee success. While I could not maintain the whole series for you I would be happy to take a couple on. Maybe some other cachers could adopt a cache or 2 that are convenient for them to maintain? I will e/m you to work out the details.
  18. I just received an e/m telling me there was a sockpuppet account created on April 24/06 by putting a hyphen in my username. Other sites require me to use a hyphen but not Gc.com and someone has taken advantage of this. So MsChief Gps_y was altered to MsChief-Gps_y. I've contacted gc.com to rectify the matter.
  19. May I add (oops I just did!) that you don't give a d*%$# how others play the game as long as you can look yourself in the mirror and up to your own scrutiny. And as long as they respect the integrity of the game piece and the environment which is critical to everyone's enjoyment.
  20. Ah so many excellent definitions of what a geocacher is. I'd like to add: You knew from the first moment you heard of it that you were born to do this. You cannot stop caching. The more you find, the more you crave. You "know" it is here somewhere and cannot leave. You try to leave and are pulled back again and again by the longing and the unfullfilled feeling of that container in your hand. Your logic is "well I'm here so I might as well stay till I find it. Writing your Dnf logs is as much fun as your Found logs. Whether you found it or not, you are still satisfied that you were out caching. You can't go anywhere without checking if you can cache as well When everyone else is fleeing the park in torrential rains, you are the one heading in. You are frustrated by puzzle caches you can't solve because they thwart your ultimate goal You comminute your arm severly while caching and spend a few months unable to move and on demerol, living vicariously through the logs of others longing, aching to be out there. And the deep contentment when finally you can go for a T1.
  21. BGoade would seem to be a sockpuppet account as no caches logged not even the one they took the TB from and haven't logged in since. They figured out how to "retrieve" it. The only thing BGoade has done with their account is acknowledge the TB. Odd. No response from them or drapelyk who had it. No idea where the TB is because of the lack of clarity. I posted to the Missouri forums asking if anyone handy to or caching at Carls Junction could see if Tb there and who knows what may turn up. It isn't the most amazing Tb out there. I tried to make it nice enough for the fun but not so special that anyone would want to keep it and yet here it is on one of the Mystery Tours Tb's can get into. Oh I do so hope ma' wee Duck flies free. but it is in the hands of Fate. All I can do is hope that decent folk may be able to help. If not, well....c'est la vie. Thanks for your thoughts......
  22. If anyone is caching at Carls Junction particularly at Carl Junction's First by drapelyk (GCRDB6) or any other nearby could they check to see if my Tb MsChief Gps_y Duck is there?/anywhere?. Any confirmation of it's whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. Just call me "an old mother duck".
  23. I don't know what to think of that statement. I looked at the map for Geocaching for All Abilities. PG36 and it shows Carl Junction's First by drapelyk, RDB6, at about the right spot. The cache owner is the one who went "oops' and promised to get it out and moving again. I've e/m'd them asking for clarification which I hope (fingers and toes crossed-who care if I walk funny) to get. Tb's sure lead interesting lives. And while I realize all one can do is "set them free", we sure do get attached to them in spite of ourselves. I was sooo happy to think the Duck was on the move again adventuring in beautiful States and hoping that one day (sigh) to get it back home and read the wee log book.
  24. My Tb, MsChief Gps_y Duck http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...81-b2c270fb7d42 has been having some odd times. Last November a cacher grabbed it from a cache and forgot about it. Three polite e/m's to her and her cousin over the months went unanswered. Finally the cousin responded most apologetically, promising to get it out and moving. I sent them a kindly thank you etc. Then 3 weeks later out of the blue I get notification the Tb has been retreived. I figure, ok, they simply put it back in the cache they took it from. Then I look at the Profile of the cacher that took it: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....32-b47fa485d211. Joined May 15, took tb May 19 and has no caches logged!. Waited a week or so, then sent the cacher a kindly note asking hopefully that this languishing tb can get moving. No response and the cacher hasn't logged in since. Seems they only wanted my Tb....?!? Odd eh?
