  1. That battery box from Pocket Solutions is a neat device. I picked up a Zune Mp3 player charger at discount at Wal Mart for $10 that has two usb ports for charging and it has a built in lithium ion battery for charging up a device anywhere. It also plugs into the wall to act as a regular wall wart charger. It has the benefit of being a better charger for my cell phone as I think it supplies more charge current than some of those generic chargers do. The frustrating thing with your model of PDA was that if the battery tanks, you loose all data until you do a restore from a backup. Newer units, Windows Mobile 5 and 6, have what they call persistent memory, we would call it flash memory. It doesn't loose the data when the power goes away. I use the HP5900 series currently which also has a built in Tom Tom GPS.
  2. Do what you are doing. Use them, ask questions, surf the web. There are some good info pages on the main geocaching.com site that help. Also look for a group in your area. Download the cache data to your unit directly from the seek pages. They are Garmin friendly.
  3. New to Geocaching but I have been running Linux at home for 4 years. I am up to Ubuntu Gusty Gibbon on the desktop and Hardy Heron on one mini netbook. My EEEPC runs linux and I have a couple of work/play related laptops that run Linux and Windows XP. I haven't tried any of the linux apps yet for my Garmin Colorado. I do edit my logfiles and the text file I made in Open Office and transfer to the memory card just like the Garmin was a very expensive card reader. Plugged it in and it worked without adding any drivers. Now if I could just download caches and other data from Linux.
