  1. 1st - do a pocket query for the area we plan to cache. 2nd download caches into gpsr's (dakota 20 & nuvi 550) got to love paperless caching. 3rd make sure we have water for us and the dog. (because we can't get out of the house without our German Short Hair). 4th grab the camera 5th in the summer make sure we have bug spray or wipes. 6th grab caching pouch with extra batteries, note pads, baggies and first aid kit. 7th depending on were we are going take gloves, extra socks and a spare pair of shoes to leave in the cachemobile. Nothing like having to drive home with soaked feet in the winter. 8th make sure we have some snack bars and food for the dog. 9th gas up and go
  2. Ok it didn't send the attachment. Said it was ready for download. I thought you were talking about not getting the e-mail for a query with 1000 caches in it. No biggy for me as I usualy go to the query download section to down load my query's anyway.
  3. Not emailed. Too bulky and a strain for outgoing/incoming email. Thats funny because I have had them e-mail to me with 1000 caches. Not since May 2010. Guess I'll have to do 1000 query again to see if I get the e-mail.
  4. The only times I have logged a find that I didn't sign was in the case where the log was soaked and unsignable, the log was degraded to shreaded paper and a couple of times where the log was so full there was no room for us to sign without signing over other finders logs. In all of these cases I contacted the co by either e-mail of a needs maintenance log. I feel if I was able to get the log out It was a find. If we can't get to it but can see it we log a dnf. Not having a writing utensel is no excuse in my book. We allway have a couple of pens or pencils with us. I have never had a co delete a find log in these cases. If they did I would probaly put their caches on my ignor list. Here is a thought maybe the co's should check on their caches more frequently to make sure they are signable. This seams to be the biggest gripe I have is that there are a lot of caches out there that have a lack of maintanence as for logs go. Too many cachers are unwilling to post needs maintanence logs as well. All in all it's about getting out for us and we don't let what others do get to us.
  5. With us a trip that should take an hour or 2 takes us all day now.
  6. Not emailed. Too bulky and a strain for outgoing/incoming email. Thats funny because I have had them e-mail to me with 1000 caches.
  7. If none was generated you won't get anything. Lastly, before you depart the Pocket Query page, up at the top there should be a link allowing you to view the proposed PQ (before submitting). You should always have a look-see at that to make sure it actually contains what you want. Double-check to make sure you have set a day of the week for it to run (this is missed by some, occasionally), not having a day to run = no PQ. Good luck, and happy caching. EDIT: context They have changed it to allow 1000 caches in a query.
  8. ??? The Dakota 20 is perfectly happy to read maps and gpx files in either location, or both - provided you create the right folders on the SD card. Mine wouldn't and when I contacted garmin about this they told it was only designed to read geocaching gpx files off the main memory and not the card. They told me that only map data could be read off the card. So unless they have changed the software to read geocaches off the card which I still can't get mine to do even with the latest software unless I am doing something wrong. This isn't a big issue as the dakota will hold up to 2000 individual geocaches and if you do it in pocket query form I have had over 2500.
  9. +1 Would nice if it was free but $10 for 3 months seems affordable to most. It really pays for itself; you can effectively have all caches in your area on your device waiting to be found. Or all caches in your holiday destination, etc. I have the Dakota 10 and love it The Dakota will only read maps on the sd card so you will need to load the gpx files directly to the unit and not the sd card.
  10. Ok the Dakota series has been out for a few months now. I am concidering buying a 20 series. I would like owners of the Dakota series honest oppinions of these units? How durable, accurate, and ease of use.? I currently use a nuvi 550 but wan't something a little more portable for geo caching and hiking.

    Rules ?

Thanks for everyones points of view. I am watching a couple of caches I reported for action to be done just to see how long it takes. I still believe that before placing a cache the placer should have at least found 10 or 20. The ones I have been watching have fewer than 10 finds and haven't been on the sight in months.

    Rules ?

We are kind of new to this and are having a great time searching and seeing the different and unique ways people place them. How ever I have noticed quite a few are not being maintained. I have notified the cache owners on a few and have noticed that others do the same. Shouldn't Groundspeak monitor cache placers activity on the web site and see if they are following up on problems with their caches? Also it appears that people with little to no experience are allowed to post caches. We searched one that the owner only had 5 finds and hadn't been active on the site for months. It was quite apparent from the other posts and reports from other searchers that the cache is MIA along with the owner of the cache. This part is a little frustrating and I feel that there should be guidelines in place that restrict who can post a cache based on their activity on the site and their finds. I have 54 finds and have been thinking about placing one but want to make sure that I have the time to maintain it once it's placed. It appears that Groundspeak is a little lacks on this.
