  1. Not working on my Oregon 300. Just wanted to put three or four specific caches in over quite a wide area as I'm off on my travels in half an hour. But couldn't do so. Not particularly impressed!
  2. So a shortcut which said "TFTC" wouldn't be acceptable even though it's what loads of cachers put down on the log? But a default which said "nice easy find" would?
  3. So presumably if the default message was "TFTC" it would be acceptable?
  4. Same here, I don't care about short or even perfunctory logs, but cloned adverts are very annoying. So a "sent from my mobile device" is not acceptable but a "TFTC" is?
  5. There does indeed seem to be a problem......and also with the GSAK website.
  6. Graculus.....the Iphone app does indeed present you with a blank screen. But the text is then added on the Geocaching.com log. As I say, this is what my son does! Perhaps the Iphone app default text could be changed or perhaps there could be a selection of messages which could be chosen to make the log a little more "meaningful". But not everyone necessarily has the ability to alter logs; I would have thought that if the physical log was signed (which it is in my son's case) then what he chooses to enter on the website is totally irrelevant.
  7. My eldest son (crispystrips) occasionally comes caching with us as indeed he did this morning. I should mention that he is 22 and autistic and uses his Iphone; having said that he leaves most of the "work" to us but it is a good way of giving him some fresh air and exercise! He likes to get finds logged immediately rather than waiting till we get home as we do. Probably one of his autistic traits! But it's something he likes to do himself although he does find it extremely fiddly; still, the default message is perfect for him particularly as prior to the recent update he had to enter his own narrative which sometimes caused reactions. So for him the message which the Iphone sends is perfect. It says nothing less than the "TFTC" which you see on many logs and I have to say I would be extremely miffed if cache owners started deleting them.....
  8. Just got back from doing a few caches.....looking at my Oregon 300 I couldn't work out, on the map page, why no matter which way I walked I was 90 to 95 feet from one particular cache. Walked halfway up the road one bit and back.....but would the wretched thing budge? Then I realised that whilst it had been in my pocket I'd somehow changed the readout from "distance to destination" to "elevation".....
  9. Not sure if I can do this.....but I'll do it anyway! We have a coin...Angelbex Valentine Geocoin...which was placed in Great Ormond Street (Almost) cache. You'll see from our details just how much this coin means to us and having seen where it was placed I went to GOSH yesterday to retrieve it. However, two cachers were there the day before (the 16th) only one of whom has logged it on the website. The other finder must, I think, have taken all three coins including ours....the name is in the cache log book and I wrote it down as I had a sixth sense that something would be wrong. But I wrote it down on my train ticket which, of course, the wretched machine gobbled up! There is probably a simple explanation....like someone on holiday who won't log in for a few days or something....but we are anxious to get the coin back or at least know it's safe. So if someone visits this cache (I can't get up there again till next week) could they email the loggersw name to me? I think it begins with n.... As I say I hope this is ok and I'm sure you will all understand!
  10. No.....it's no big deal - despite the big deal I'm making of it! I've not changed email addresses or done anything like that, merely placed my personal TB in caches and taken it out again. Just seems odd that I suddenly get four requests for validation just like that. Oh well......let's move on, life's too short.
  11. I've only been a Premium Member for 14 months, I validated the account then.......so why, suddenly, do I get four requests for validation in one afternoon?
  12. Why, when I want to log my personal TB's out and in, am I now being told my account is not validated and that validation codes are being sent to me?
  13. Before we go caching we usually select one cache......click on the map for that and then see all the caches local to it on the map. Makes it easy for us to plan. Now it just says "loading map......" Don't mind change but......
  14. I've been offered an HP Ipaq rx5700 but as I already have a Garmin Oregon 300 I'm not sure whether to or not. The Garmin is fine and I use TalkyToaster's maps which, of course, are excellent but I find the lack of detail in terms of public footpaths can be a little frustrating. I already have Memory Map installed on my home PC and so when I go out in the country caching I usually print out the area I'm going to be visiting so I know exactly where I need to go. Presumably I would be able to install Memory Map on the Ipaq via an SD card; if so then it might be a decent purchase.....yes?
  15. Many thanks for the replies.....I thought this would be the case!
  16. My wife and I have separate user profiles but as we now only do our geocaching together (aaah!) we intend to just have one profile once our premium memberships come up for renewal in December. Presumably we can get our user name changed by putting in a request but as there are one or two caches I've done but my wife hasn't and vice versa can we get our profiles amalgamated so all these caches show on our joint profile?
  17. If I run a list of finds on pocket queries it seems to come back to me straight away and certainly within ten minutes or so. But last weekend I ran a query to give me a list of caches for a holiday trip; there were only about three hundred in total so the list was not huge. I've run the query again a couple of times since but still haven't received the email so I can extract the details for my GPSr. As I'm going later today I ended up having to go through the list and downloading each one to my GPSr separately. Sort of takes away the point, really.....
  18. If you have an Iphone why do you need a GPS? I use an Oregon 300 which cost me £250 or so....my wife uses an Iphone with the Groundspeak application.....cost £5.99. It's just as good as mine; in many respects way better. Why not give that a go first?
  19. Not working again for me; if I press "recalculate distance" on the drop down menu it just does nothing. Annoying when you have a TB to calculate your caching distance!
  20. I don't think I've ever looked in the "attributes" section of any cache I've attempted. Usually I will decide on an area in which I want to cache, download the cache details onto my GPSr, and that's it. When I get to the area and switch the machine on I will look at the description but this doesn't include the attributes, at least not on my Oregon 300. I would imagine I'm not alone in doing it this way! Personally, whilst including a new attribute is fine, I think it is the responsibility of the placer to include a suitable description....including any potential such problems or amend it as any pitfalls are pointed out. The cache to which mcwomble originally referred is, in my opinion, in a totally inappropriate place; many cachers have logged the problem but you wouldn't guess it from the description.
  21. I had something like this problem about a month back with my Oregon 300. When I tried to transfer to GPS it kept saying that no device was detected so I re-installed the plug in (even though I'd installed it when the revised plug in came out) and it worked. Then the following day the same thing happened again. No device was detected so I re-installed again and it worked....and it's worked ever since (touch wood!) No idea why it happened but if your problem is the same then persevere and hopefully it will work!
  22. Thanks for the reply, Martin, and yes I did create the folder as instructed. Since then a friend of mine who is a little more computer savvy had a go and it has installed perfectly. What he did differently I don't know but now I'm a happier bunny!
  23. I've just got into geocaching and, for my sins, decided to buy the Garmin Oregon 300 as it is (so I thought) capable of using the maps on Memory Map. I have V5 of the whole of the UK which I bought last year. When I got the Oregon I was a little disappointed to find the basemap is worse than useless, then that I can't use Memory Map after all. I then found the link to these particular maps which I hoped would at least get me going! I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I simply cannot get these to install on the Oregon despite hours of effort. Right.....I've downloaded the file, re-named it GMAPSUPP.IMG as instructed and then installed it onto a Micro SD card. I've then plugged the card in under the batteries and turned the Oregon back on. Then, presumably, I go to Setup - Map - Map Info Select Map.....where I would expect to see the new map. But there's just the basemap. It's really frustrating, to put it mildly, but at this rate I suppose I'll just have to fork out again for the Topo V2. But it would be nice to get these maps working so I can at least make a start!!!
