  1. How so? Also, what about the Gecaching.com app. From What I hear it is horrible...
  2. I do not have a GPS. I want to use my phone as a GPS. What is the best way to do this? I have seen the apps for Geocaching.com and Trimble. Which is best, or is there another option? What is the best way to go about caching with one of these? Any other useful information about these would be helpful.....especially if there is a free way to do it, lol barqsman
  3. I always find them at school in the library. I agree with you that they seem kind of comic bookish. I'm not saying I never would put any in, I just don't have any and probably won't go out of my way to get any. My goal for the cache isn't to have a whole church inside the cache. I just thought the Bible would be nice. If they don't like it, pass it over. About the mens bathrooms, lol im not sure. Wasn't there some frisky business with Senator Craig at an Airport bathroom and an undercover cop? I am a big non-fan of those pamphlets. On one hand I find them pushy. They are often demeaning of anyone who does not agree with them. On the other most seem to cheapen the religion with the comic book format. To each their own I guess. Tell me. Is there any significance to the fact that they are so often left in men's rooms?
  4. Are you refering to little pamphlets that people pass out? I hadn't considered putting that in there, but again I still don't see anything wrong with that. Just pass over it if you dont want it, leave it for someone who might.
  5. I think as long as its something you wouldn't be embarrased to show your grandma, its okay to go in there. I just have several of these little Bibles and some new caches to fill. Don't worry, I will ensure some Mcdonalds happy meal toys make it in. Ah, the "spirit of geocaching" lives on. Why do you do this? Are you afraid someone might convert or something? Edit to add: By doing so, are you not engaging in your personal views of religion? Doesn't that make you no different than the person who left the religious material in in the first place? Like I mentioned in another thread, I think people coming into this sport/hobby want to find caches, so I help out in my area to make sure that if they're listed, they're actually there. I also don't want people to think all they'll see out there is religious materials either, plus I just find it annoying in general. Keep it kid friendly with some toys or whatever, no need for that stuff. I was FTF on a find yesterday and found condoms in the cache. Took those out and disposed of that as well. I figure if I'm trading back of equal or better value, no harm done really. I do believe in god, have been to church and may start going again. I'm not afraid of some family grabbing it, reading it and maybe doing something with it, go for it, I just think there is a time and a place. In my opinion, geocaching isn't a platform for what people believe and don't believe. I don't make comments in logs about it, don't post threads about it here, but if I see it, well, gotta open the bag up to trade some swag, haha. I don't imagine any atheist materials would last long in many places either.
  6. Im not trying to be a jerk, and I wasn't planning on making it a "religious cache". How can that be offensive? If a muslim wants to put some stuff in there thats fine, it wouldn't bother me a bit. I think people freaking out about it is being intolerant. Its alot better than the crap I see it most caches, i.e. pine cones, crappy broken baby toys, quarters, and 5 cent stuff animals. If I went to Kuwait and got a geocache, I would not be suprised or offended if I found a koran. Im going to do it anyways. I would hope people wouldn't vandalize my cache because of it, and leave it for someone who might actually want it. If you don't like it, then take the super cool travel bug.
  7. I am about to put out some caches in my local area. Is it taboo to put little New Testiment Bibles in them? I have never heard of that, but you never know. Thanks. Barqsman
  8. If you have a letter from you commander its no problem at all. Most of the time when someone is trying to get away with something is when its illegal. My unit throws them out all of the time. Its nothing to get the commander to hand them over with a letter. Thanks for the concern.
  9. I am a reservist and I asked some of the higher ranking people if we had any old ammo cans lying around I could buy or have and they gathered up 3 or 4 very large and average size ammo cans. He told me had I gotten to him last week I could have had 8 more just like them. The tip is ask friends that are in the military if they can scrounge them up, they are ALL over air military bases, ALL OVER!
  10. Are these good GPS? Basically what I want is to have one that I can load a map into with a separate SD card. Does That slow it down? I found some sites that I can get them cheaper, what websites are not to be trusted? Can the Vista HCX download from geocaching.com? Also when I do download from geocaching.com what does it look like in the GPS? I just want to be sure because I bought a magellan triton 300 without looking at the specs and consumer reports and I have lived to regret it. Thanks for any info.
  11. someone wrote on when finding my cache, TNLNSL. What does TNLNSL mean?
  12. My first cache was reviewed by Mtn man, thanks mtn man for your advice. But it wasn't published, was there possibly a problem im not aware of? How long after its been reviewed does it go down as official? Im a bit anxious, im sorry if im annoying anyone.
  13. attack them with a kamehameha. If you don't know that move pretend like they arn't there.
  14. I placed it Sunday and now its Wednesday. Can anyone tell me how I can find out when I will have this one up and going? Thanks.
  15. I just did know what exactly a reviewer did. Do they actually go and try to find the cache itself? or do they look at the listing and say it looks good. I was just wondering, I assumed most people were going to church on Easter Sunday, as I did I. Thanks for the explanation.
  16. I made my first cache and I am waiting for it to be approved and it hasn't yet. Whats the big deal and what does the approval process consist of?
  17. I need something with streets maps (topo would be nice), something that can download straight from this site and has removable storage. Any ideas?
  18. Go ahead and do it, it sounds like a cool place. If you have the guys permission you don't need anyone on here's permission. Im sure they will be coming by looking for it.
  19. Honestly, this is how I do it. I find the place I want to go on geocaching.com, pull up the coordinates and input them into my triton 300. It takes along time. Did you have to pay for Nat Geo TOPO? I called their help line but those Indians were no help. So you input the coordinance by hand? I did that when I first got my T4oo; it was a pain! I quicly upgraded to a premium membership so I could download the gpx files. As far as road maps maps; I believe you can download street maps, but there is no turn by turn instructions. If you really do want a new unit, what is your budget? Im thinking around 200 dollars.
  20. Some people enjoy the extra challenge.
  21. I want one with street maps and topo.

  23. Any guys out there geocaching in Starkville, MS? I was wondering if there was a group at Mississippi State University.
