  1. Will+Bill, You said you had already replied to the message. As noted earlier, question #22 goes WAY beyond any info I would share with anyone. Give out your PIN number? I hope you didn't pass out this information. If for some reason you did, might I suggest you contact the bank and change it immediately? I can't think of any good that could come from sharing that type of information.
  2. OK, I will play devil's advocate for a brief moment. IF you return it and have already logged the cache you were looking for when you found this hidden near-by, won't other cachers in your area then know about the hidden cash near the cache? Wouldn't that maybe be a little bit of a temptation for someone who just may not quite agree with your putting it back? You may return in two weeks to see if the rightful owner has taken it and find it gone, but not necessarily by the original owner. Again....I am not saying any cacher would go looking for it, if you replace it. But I am saying it could be a temptation that is better avoided.
  3. Gotta have a staff. Or as my family calls it: a pokey stick. Not only for walking along the trails and balance, but for poking into the areas you really don't want to bend over and stick your hand into while looking for the cache. Yup, Very important.
  4. Looks like it did get jinxed......Not that I have any business being up at 1:00 and looking at the logs. I was sleeping peacefully in my nice warm bed. Till I got a call that our son put his car in the ditch. So now after a visit from the Sheriff (Boy, are they fast!) and a trip to withdraw our life savings to pay the tow truck (Actually he was great. Friend of a friend who pulled it out for cash under the table) and most important no one was hurt. But back on topic, came here to relax and see who was logging finds, but the site was real slow and I started getting the server application error messages again. Guess everyone is up late logging the days finds.
  5. Longest time spent so far: We spent an hour looking for the second stage of a multi. Couldn't find it, came home and logged the DNF. Next post was from the owner, it had went missing. It's still a DNF, it's been three months and they haven't replaced it yet. I hope they do soon, I want to get that one off my list. Usually we don’t spend that long, if it's only rated a 1 or 2, we will look for 20 -30 minutes before we bag it. Then we go back and walk straight to it!
  6. No. I like to get out and enjoy the hunt. Don't want to feel pressured to be the FTF so I can get the grand prize. Don't want to pay $10 and feel like if I don't get there first I've wasted my money. I love to trade, I love to add booty to the caches that need help. Though it makes me sad to see the poor quality of the some of the caches I find, I always leave them with more and in better shape than when I found them. That's what makes it fun for me.
  7. I had figured out the quote button long ago. What I can't figure out, is how do people use quotes from several posts and roll them all into one? Then they reply to each, in between.
  8. I consider the dollar coins in a different class than those who simply garb a few pennies, nickels and lint from a pocket and toss in the cache. Maybe to keep the coins nice and so they aren't mistaken for "loose change", you can get some of those coin holders that are cardboard and clear plastic, made to protect coins.
  9. This could be your solution. Even the second wouldn't have to be a regular size cache, just a bit larger Micro that would hold the log. You could post the coords on a slip of paper, laminate it and use it in the first micro.
  10. My kudo's to the mods, as well. Brazin, (my husband) is a frequent visitor on other boards. He will read me things people have posted and the flame wars that go on and I am glad we have the level of moderation we do on these boards. It's a lot to have to keep up on and the mods do a great job! As far as the funny or silly comments, that's ok too, in moderation. Life is too short to take every thing so serious. Laughing can save lots of $$ on therapy! Everything doesn't have to turn into a debate, does it? Let's just have some fun out there!!!!
  11. I would love to add one to my bracelet as well. I doubt the folk at Groundspeak would consider making one, even though the retail could go for $20. They would probably cost a fortune to make and I don't think that many of the general population have the Italian bracelets. Maybe a regular Geocaching charm that could either be added to a bracelet, or worn on a neckchain? Either way, I would like to see some type of a jewlery item.
  12. PandyBat, you may want to also consider a backpack specifically designed for a female, vs. the generic ones, which are ususally designed for the male body. I invested in one and what a difference. The weight is carried lower on the hips. I talked to several people and tested several types before finding this one. I can easily carry more weight with less work, as the distribution puts the weight more on the hips. I don't know if other women have found the same thing, but I LOVE my pack. (REI, BTW)
  13. I have seen a lot of questions and debates over which gps units are the best and why. I need advice on which gps is the absolute EASIEST to operate. I mean REALLY simple. I think my dad would love geocaching and I plan to but him a gps for Father's Day. But he is extremely computer/technology challenged. I need something that he can just enter waypoints in, and go. The fewer steps, the fewer buttons, the better. Let's not even consider cables and downloading waypoints, it would be a disaster. I know my dad well, but he and technology are at odds. I am thinking a gecko, from what I have read. Would this be the best choice? I'd like to keep it under $180. Thanks for any advice!
  14. My Dead Horse vote has to go to the "Micros Suck" debates. (and NO! I don't think they do. And NO, I don't want to discuss it!)
  15. I try and keep the item in the package, but cut the clamshell packaging down, if it's going to take up too much room. I have also become very careful about what I buy and even if it's on sale and a good price, if I think it will be too large for a cache, usually will pass. I try not to repackage, because I want people to know it is new.
  16. Try going into the "Getting Started" forum and then do a search. I think this question has been asked before.
  17. Yes, we do. Kills me at times, but what the heck! I crack up when I read logs that say...."Took us four trips before we finally snagged this one" and you look back and there was never even a note saying they had a DNF.
  18. WOW!!! You guys are great. But instead of paypal, I used the secret envelope with the small unmarked bills hidden with the cold six packs in the usual locations! Thanks!!!!!
  19. I have a cache that a newbie has posted that they took a travel bug from. In the log, they have listed the number instead of calling it by its name. I have emailed them asking them to edit, but in the mean time if they don't I don't want to delete their log, just the TB #. Can I do this? I tried and it looks like all or nothing! Help???? (They also didn't "pick it up" so it's still showing in the cache. I have instructed them to read about bugs and to please "pick it up" so it won't show as still there.)
  20. Don't forget Mixed Signal. What tease she turned out to be. So would a "Crossed Signal" be a cross dressing frog?
  21. OK all... After working 12 years working at the tech desk for an epoxy manufacturer, this is an area I know quite a bit about. Major Catastrophe was right as others. Heat may or may NOT work. If ratios are off, it won't cure. (If ratios are ok, you can help it along by heating. Try a heat lamp. Even low flame is ok; there is nothing flammable in epoxy, which is why they are so easy to airfreight. Side note since Epoxies contain no solvents, there isn't the shrinkage you find with Polyesters.) Don't add extra hardener to make it kick, you're thinking polyesters for this trick. If the heat doesn't do the trick, scrape all you can out and try again. Keep ratios to the proper measurements, 1:1, 2:1, etc. Generally you'll have a 10% error/forgiveness ratio, but not more. Be sure and MIX thoroughly. Inadequate mixing will result in uncured and soft spots. I would say 1/2 my calls could have been avoided, if the products had been mixed better. **Sigh** I really miss that job, my company relocated to Louisiana (Cheaper labor, less environmental constraints. I was offered relocation, but family is here. My favorite caller, after I dazzled him with my teco-lingo knowledge: "Wow. You're really smart. I bet you can even type and cook really good too." (He was an older gentleman and was very sincere.) I still had to chuckle though! (You guessed it, I a female. Can't tell you how many callers clarified that they had been ask to be transferred to the tech dept when I picked up the phone!
  22. To address the original post: I too, would like to see the micros in their own category. I am a premium member and could do the pocket query...once I find out how, that is. Till then, I do things the old fashioned way, by entering my zip code on the computer and scrolling down the pages. Wanting to see Micros in their own category has nothing to do with not liking them, some days I want to hunt micros, some days I want the ol' ammo can. Just depends on my mood. So not to reopen the gates to -ell, I would love to see the micros broken out.
  23. Woo-Hoo! I actually understood some of this! Writer: Cool shortcut! I like easy! And EScout: I followed your directions and it worked! And trust me, following directions is NOT something I do well or often! Again, thanks to all that replied. Since I now have the answers, I'll close the thread.
  24. Thanks for both answers so far. O.k., so not only am I math impaired, but all I really know how to do on the GPSr is enter a way point and then go there. I have a Magellan Sportrak. Does it have a route function?
  25. Forgive me if this has been asked and feel free to Markwell. I just couldn't find it on a search. Problem: I'm planting a cache. I know there is another cache in the area and I have the coords on it. I plant mine and take a reading on the GPSr. Can I then look at the other person's coords, add or subtract mine and find out the difference between the two, in FEET? Since the guidelines state '528 feet', I want to be sure I am far enough away before I go to the trouble of making the web page, etc. Is this even possible?
