  1. If you are really adamant about using this method, get some of the iron on transfer paper to print on. I have used it for t-shirts and it does iron on beautifully, and in full color. The ink holds up well in the wash, but don't know how stable it would be on a nonporous surface. Good luck!!
  2. WOW! There are some beautiful animals here. We have three dogs. (And a cat. The dogs need a chew toy, right?) I couldn't imagine not having them. They are each unique in their personalities and we have so much fun taking them out. I take Blitz (See above, he's the 180 pounder) out with me in my Miata. He can only fit when the top is down and he sits so tall he looks over the top window. I always get a chuckle when people will stop in the middle of the road to talk to us. I must say, he is a sight. He is so mellow and just loves to go cruising with me. I'll have to get a pic and post, it's pretty cool.
  3. Thanks for making our own smaller regional discussion area. I hope we can get out to find some of your new caches soon. My daughter is getting married at the end of the month, so darn it all, I have other things to do than hide and find caches! But the fun thing is my parents are coming up for the wedding (and a nice long visit....) and my dad is the master of disguise and cammo. I have lots of supplies to keep him busy, so I plan on getting him involved in making some new and very clever hides for me. Can't wait to see what he comes up with!
  4. **LMAO**** Oh Yeah! So, I'm picturing us, out caching. We like to take our 'puppy' with us. He's a Newf weighing in about 180 pounds. He doesn't like squirrels, rabbits and he REALLY doesn't like cats. I can see it now: We spot the cache and so does he...in a blaze of dust he's broken the leash and in less than 60 seconds, he's um....'found' the cache. I don't think the cache will ever be the same....poor fluffy......
  5. An FYI: I also had my email returned last night. I sent it to contact@Groundspeak.com about 8:30 PM 7/5/04. When the email came back, I just sent my request to the local admin. instead.
  6. In addition to all the goodies listed above: We take extra logbooks, pencils, pencil sharpeners, zip lock bags, garbage bags and extra stash goodies. That way if we find a cache whose logbook is full, pencil missing/broken and low on trade items, we can leave the cache in better shape than when we found it.
  7. "I Think I Need A Donkey With Me, too much stuff i want to bring with me" Another thing teenage sons are great for! The downside: "My God.....! How much food can a 17 year-old footballl player eat?????"
  8. Snap . It should be in the guidlines "People MUST post photos in their logs" Deego, great home page. I really enjoyed the photography. Loved the close-up head shot of the tiger, page 7, taken at Drayton Manor. Very nice! Also, looks like you have some awsome hikes last year! WOW!
  9. CLose. Took Nothing, Left Nothing, Signed Log.
  10. What a great idea for a signature item! Do you have a pic you can post? I agree with the styrofoam/cork idea. The cardboard will be harder to use if it's a treble hook, but would probably work fine if it's a single hook. Will they be able to get the hook off easily if they use tubing?
  11. Pipanella - side note. I had opened your profile last night on the computer when my son (17 years old) walked by and saw it. He said "Huh. She's kinda cute". Wait till I tell him what you said about your age! Pretty good, you're still getting teenage boys to turn their heads!
  12. We have some older VHS containers around our house. I have noticed that over the years, the plastic becomes brittle and cracks easily. This degeneration process may be sped if it's in the sun? I would say, go for the ammo cans and then you won't have the worries!
  13. Norbu, thank you for the positive thread. Even with the problems, they are minor when compared with the positive, good things caching has done for us. Positives: It gets my husband out from his computer and gets us both some exorcise! It is a sport my 17-year-old will participate in with his parents. He likes to tease me about 'having to go' but has admitted he actually likes it! I love getting ideas on clever hides and planning the next one. I enjoy leaving the caches in better shape than when I find them and seeing who takes the trinkets we leave. Yes, there are many, many positives!
  14. I like to find signature items. We will occasionally take something other than that that catches our eye, but I like to have a momento from others cachers that signify who they are. As for what we leave, I also leave signature items. We also leave new, in package stuff like out door trinkets (whistles, signal mirrors, space blankets, rain ponchos, compass) and things that children would like to find: Hot Wheels, Legos, school kits, My Little Pony's, etc.) Since most of the caches we find are ones that people take their children to, we always try and leave a nicely stocked cache for those who follow us.
  15. I look at location, occupation and general information. I like to see other hobbies and interests. I enjoy the profiles that give me a little info about the person and I like pictures posted. Not that I have my/our picture, I have picutres of my dogs. They are cuter than me! (OMG! What does thet say!!!!!)
  16. I try and hide in area parks that encourage families to visit. I think we have some great parks and like to get as many people out and enjoying them as possible. That's another reason I try for ammo can size hides and always leave lots of great goodies for the kids.
  17. Hi Kealia, I am not a basher and I do try and stay away from the flame wars. The personal attacks bother me and do nothing to further the sport. But in answer to your one question, (your quote) for myself, I would like to see a resolution because just maybe, someday, I might do something totally out of charter and upset an admin. I don't want to think I have to be on eggshells if I do happen to disagree with an admins decision thinking that he/she person could, in a retaliatory move, disable one of my caches. I don't feel I am owed an explanation, but it would help to restore my faith, because maybe this wasn't a retaliatory move but sadly it does sound like it. I don't need or want details, I just want to know & believe that the CG system is a fair and honest system. Mistakes happen, we are all (last I checked) human. If it was an error, well, people make them. We don't need a witch hunt nor cross burnings. Let's just all step back and give the system a chance to work.
  18. I think your log is fine. I have to wonder if others have had this same problem, as some of the other entries are vague (as per owners request) too. I have seen logs in our area that are nothing more than TNLNSL and those count. Maybe he was in doubt because you said something about finding it accidentally. Either way, you played fair and by the rules. Your log is still listed and unless it's deleted, forget about him.
  19. Oh My! Maybe you could simply replace the Tupperware with a racoon-proof ammo can and forget the urination thing .......
  20. Hey Sunshine - we normally get the wet stuff here, but today was just about perfect. It not quite 6:00 PM and a perfect 70 degrees. Just getting ready to BBQ and got to go out and snag three caches today with the family. Can't imagine a better day than this! (Unless it's getting MORE caches........)
  21. Good call Elf! I bet you are right. I saw a pic of a dog with mange once and that was how the back half looked. Any Vets here? A professional opinion?
  22. You know, I am always called the peacemaker in my family. The one who offers comprise and thinks issues are better resolved when it's a win-win. I am one of the newer cachers here, but I am very active and do my part and support geocaching in a positive way. However, I was following the other thread when this subject came up and next thing you know, this cache was archived. I know there is no RULE that says problems on caches should try and be worked out, but I think it would have been the appropriate move if an email had been sent to 360 telling him he needed to find someone closer to the plaque, or it would be archived because of maintenance problems. Then since this cache had been approved with 360 as the owner, even if in hindsight to some, that was an error, give him a reasonable amount of time to rectify the situation. The cache wasn't putting anyone into "immanent danger", so why couldn't there have been more effort put into resolving the problem? Thing is, it is too far to have good maintenance on it by 360. It's a popular cache, which means it is going to need more maintenance than a cache that is only visited a few times a year. But rather than archive it, maybe he could have had a week's notice to set something up with a cacher (Ponyryder had already said he would/could maintain.) Seems there are many people who are very passionate here about Geocaching. Sure would be nice to see steps taken towards resolving a situation before the plug is pulled. Listing the cache on another sight is just a band-aid fix, it doesn't resolve the problem. This make me very sad, I hope it's resolved soon.
  23. Maybe a new breed, the Foxena? Looks like a fox that went on a 'date' with a hyena, to me. O.k., guess we'll just go for a fox vote.
  24. Another reason I as a cacher like to see the DNF's: If I see several DNF's, sprinkled among the finds I will read the logs a bit closer. The DNF's could indicate a trickier hide and I am going to really have to look hard if I hope to find it. Maybe that one or two rating is a little off and it really is closer to a three or four. The DNF's may indicate that. Yes, I am reluctant to log it, but again, I ALWAYS do.
