  1. I need help, FAST. Here's the situation: I want to buy my dad a GPS for father's day. (I know, I'm late! ) My dad and mom are on their way here, I think they will reach my house by this weekend. I also have my one and only daughter getting married in less than two weeks (they just announced it two weeks ago) so I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I had researched GPS's a while back and decided for the ease of use the Geko would be my dad's best option. Now I don't have time to order online or Ebay. I live in Lynnwood. Any suggestions on where I can go (most cost effective) to make a purchase after work in the next few days? I want to get either the 101 or 201. THANKS!!!
  2. I have only closed topics when I ask a specific question, usually how to do something and gotten the answer. Well, that and the time I had a few too many on my BDay and started a topic, which I later closed.
  3. I really like the way this one looks. What about this design on the back, then the blurb about "Geocaching capital........" around the edge? Sorry, I didn't know how to combine the two coins already done to illustrate.
  4. Well, since you are asking: I am sure you had good intentions. However, it is not your place to decide what is and is not appropriate when it is within Cache guidelines. You are not the cache police and the sticker wasn't something that was endangering anyone, causing harm, etc. Do you turn off the TV if a beer commercial comes on? Maybe so, but you probably don't go down to the broadcast station and remove the video from the machine to prevent the broadcast from being seen by children. Look at it this way: It's an opportunity to open a discussion with you children regarding drinking and beer. And as far as taking the key chain and not leaving anything? Bad form. Always trade up or even, or don't trade. I follow this, even when removing a knife or other object that is against geocaching rules.
  5. I am looking to buy a Geko 201 for my dad. This will be his first GPS for Geocaching. Please email me with price and details. Thanks! --Laurie (Gizmo & Brazin)
  6. So if we ordered 500 of any of the above coins, it would add $.50/coin? So the Antique silver, for instance, would be $3.55 each? I would still get a few, but not a lot at that price. They would make great FTF's, but the price would prohibit my ordering as many as I would like. Sorry, I missed the 15% discount. Net price on the above coin that I was talking about would then be $3.02?
  7. I would love to see a Washington State GeoCoin. Would those in Eastern WA be put off if Mt Rainer were on it? I love Rainer; I think it is very symbolic of our state. Being as how I am a western WA gal though, is Rainer cool for the entire state? And what about the other side? a GPS? The Geocaching website logo? What is a start up cost? Does a core group all go in on it? Whew.... so many questions! Great idea Pepper!
  8. Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! And I promise if we win, after reading, we will do the same and pass the book along. Cool Idea, thanks!
  9. That is so COOL! Think of all the wedding gifts arriving in those 50 caliber ammo cans. WOW! CONGRADULATIONS!
  10. I have a large sheet laminator that I use now. But I started with a small laminator which you can find on Ebay for around $20. The laminating sheets cost extra, but are very inexpensive. I love to laminate stuff...signs, recipe cards, photos, etc. Laminators are great...everyone should have one!
  11. I use Microsoft Publisher. It's quick and easy. Most important: when making a signature card, be sure and laminate them before placing into caches, where they can quickly become geotrash. I also like to attach the signature card to my signature item, so the finder has both the card and a trinket.
  12. I can't say I would be happy to have a limit set on the number of caches I can hide. But I do have an open mind and find it interesting so many people think there should be a limit. Which brings up that second question. Say there were a limit.....that would be how many/cacher. What about families? Single cachers? Couples? Would you get to place more micros that full size? If they are urban caches, which require higher maintenance, would you get less? Or would everything be equal? So....what is that magic number? As I said, I can think of many reasons why I would not like to have a limit placed, all which have been addressed here. But rather than beat the same dead horse, I would like to find out more information from those advocating the limits.
  13. So this brings up another question. We recently found a cache that was originally some type of plastic container, which according to many logs, leaked. Then another cacher came along and saw that and made a special trip back about a week later and replaced the leaky plastic container with an ammo can. They re-hid in the same spot, just donated a new, better container. I thought that was really nice and the cache owner did post a thank you note to the cacher. However, in reading this, should he have contacted the cache owner first to ask permission? Would this upset most cache owners?
  14. Probably one of the biggest reasons I check, I like to see what items are 'hot' that people trade for. A few times I have seen something in a cache and think to myself that it's kind of borderline geotrash and then, to my surprise, someone comes along and takes it! It's nice to have diversity!
  15. the4granolacrunchers: Those are cute! Very creative. I would like finding one of those in a cache!
  16. It would be a nice feature. Add my vote!
  17. Since we are still in the stone ages, I decode and print the pages before we go caching. However, I fold the part of the page where the clue is then tape it closed. That way there is no chance to 'accidentally' read it. Takes about 10 seconds to fold and tape. (And it's always funny to be near the cache, hunting, and turn and catch Brazin trying to un-tape the page and cheat...)
  18. No ratings, please. Unless the same group is going to travel and rate all caches, it's too open to personal interpretation. I will continue to take along a cache repair kit and do my best to leave all caches in better shape than I found them. Sometimes you can't do much. If it were a poor location, I would never move it. But I am learning some people have 'styles' and after a couple of theirs, I do avoid their hides now. Others people think they are great, but they just aren't the kind I really enjoy. If you don't mind taking the time to read through a few logs, you can get lots of good info. A lot of "TNLN, TFTH" and nothing else can be revealing. However if I see people using the words 'clever hide', 'took a while to find it, great cammo' or 'terrific view' etc. I can usually assume they a cache I would enjoy.
  19. Wow! That was really neat! I was able to pick up both color & black/white without much trouble, I love the original idea. I used to have several posters, calendar and I still have a book with those. I think they are fun.
  20. I've had people leave them in some of my caches and they seem to get picked up. I do think they should be bagged, to keep them from getting chipped. As long as they look good, not tangled, I'm ok with them in a cache.
  21. Ok...the opinion of a cache owner: "WOW" goes beyond just a simply like or dislike of something. I'm not a cat fan, but if I saw a 45 pound shaved cat, I would probably say "WOW". It doesn't have to be something I like, to have a "WOW" factor for me. It just has to be something that is more grand, or spectacular...like the Grand Canyon. Now that has a "WOW" factor.
  22. Try this: Easy photo upload for Geocaching That's how I do it, at least. (I hope that worked right. It was a link another user passed to me and I am not sure if I have linked it correctly to show others.)
  23. 4 YO SBM seeks petite, cute french poodle for long walks on beach.....Oh, wait! Wrong ad!
  24. The black bags are common here. I don't like them; I would prefer people work a bit more on the camo of the container than to have to use a bag to help hide it. If the purpose is to help keep the cache dry, it doesn't work. We get so much rain up here one of the first things you see is the water getting trapped inside the bag, which then stays wet when everything else dries out. If also seems to attract slugs, which is truly gross when unwrapping.
