  1. Well, it was an older picture of my dog eating that just seemed like a good fit for the TB I picked up. However, the photo was previously in the right position in my gallery. Odd, odd, odd! Bec
  2. I guess I'm just getting grumpier with age. This one made me angry, and usually I just ignore these things: April 15 by xxxxxx (### found) I've gotta count this one as a find. My GPS60 put me at the coordinates but either mother nature or mr lawn mower buried this one. Didn't have time to dig it up. tftc The cache owner then when and checked: April 17 by XXX (## found) I just checked on this cache, and it is still there. It was rather deeply buried in leaves and grass clippings. I have uncovered it for future finders. Nice person -- I would have deleted the log and told the person to go back and find it. In the future, I'll leave my GPSr on while I driving around in my car. If I drive by a geocache...well, just didn't have time to get out my car, but I bet the cache was there. Bec
  3. Hello! This photo: shows up in my gallery with a date of 12/6/2003. I started geocaching 1/16/2004. The actual date for the log where the photo is included is 8/13/2005. What the heck happened, and how do I get this fixed? Bec
  4. I use a 60CS and love it dearly. But the Explorist 600 looks like a good unit too. Bec
  5. I don't use this unit, but I know of another cacher who does, and has been successful in finding geocaches. I too agree that WAAS is overrated. I don't use it and do just fine. Bec
  6. I have 700 model of the Roadmate, but I believe it is similar to your model. The Roadmate is for autonavigation, not geocaching. I've used mine along with another GPSr for geocaching, as the Roadmate has better road maps (obviously!) I cannot have my Roadmate locate specific coordinates, nor is it able to upload cache coordinates. Perhaps someone else knows more specifically about your model. Bec
  7. Rather than a flashlight I prefer to use a LED headlamp. I have a smaller LED flashlight that I carry in my backpack, just in case. Bec
  8. I seem to be immune to poison ivy (not even sure if there is poison oak in WI, and I don't think I would recognize it). At one point while caching I was reaching for a cache, my shirt went up exposing my stomach -- all the while I was sliding along a nice crop of poison ivy growing along a tree. But no effects whatsoever. I've waded through it in short socks and tennis shoes as well. I'm sort of testing my limits, I guess (I know that's not bright). And I'm allergic to most everything else, so this is an oddity for me. Evergreen trees give me hives, nettles about kill me, not to mention pollen, ragweed, and the like. My brother is allergic to poison ivy -- screams like a baby whenever he spots it! Bec
  9. That is fantastic!! Made me giggle anyways. Might have to get me one of them. Bec
  10. I got it too. I does say to contact them right away, so I did. Not that I thought I was experiencing anything different than any other nice weather Sunday though.....frustrating, but not the end of the world, I guess.... Bec
  11. Quantum Leap is my dream cache. I hope to be able to do it someday (although finances do limit my taking on an adventure such as this at this time). But one day I'll get there. Snoogans was one of the first geocachers I "met" on these forums. I get the definite sense that he is a wondeful guy who has created something very special with this cache. Keep it up Snoogans! Bec (edit to add: I'm a single gal, by the way......)
  12. Anything with a terrain of 1 star "should" be accessible. You might want to post in the regional forums too (further down the main page) for your specific area. Bec
  13. And now that I'm thinking about it....this should be something the TPTB at Groundspeak should be attending to. One should not have to switch to a different browser to access the forums. Especially if these people are premium members. I've tried a million different things, and am still getting booted each time. Bec
  14. Actually Panther is doin' just fine here. Do consider "upgrading" to Firefox though - Firefox is extensible and a number of nice GreaseMonkey scripts are available to make the forums and geocaching.com website easier to use. Jon A Mac user for almost 20 years and now on my 3rd Mac. Our first was a Mac Plus (the one with the developer team signatures engraved inside), but now it's a table lamp (with a keyboard and mouse), so it's still in use, kinda. I had previously used Firefox. There was some reason why I stopped, but darned if I can remember why! Bec
  15. I guess my suggestion would be to go to the event that has the temporary cache and base your opinion on that particular event. But every event is different, so I guess you should go to several. If you then find that the temporaries are problematic, bring it up with the event holder. Of course, every event holder can do whatever he or she wants, and every event attendee may do whatever he or she wants. Coming from a state that has event with temporaries, our organization has established that we can log temporaries if we choose. Some do, some don't. I used to, but decided in the past year to stop doing it. However, at all the events I have attended with temporaries, each on still has to meet the guidelines for cache placement. One unfortunate thing for these temporaries is that you can't log a DNF -- in the past I used notes when I couldn't find a temporary. I don't have any deep reason as to why I don't log temporaries anymore (maybe just too lazy to log them all!) I've only encountered quality temporaries at this point, and I still enjoy seeking them. I just give myself one smiley now. I've thought about deleting all of my extra ones, but again, too lazy to make the change. Maybe eventually. Until there is official word that this is not allowed, it will continue. Doesn't affect my life in any significant way, so I don't worry about it. Bec
  16. Perhaps. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether someone's joking around and when he's being serious in text-based environments. (By the way, that was something I hadn't thought about when I was posting earlier - "Took Epi-Pen, left {insert worthless piece-o-junk}". That's another reason why people shouldn't put Epi-pens in caches. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an Epi-pen a form of syringe - and thus verboten under the cache guidelines?) Yes, plus you need a prescription for one. Might be some legality issues too.... Bec
  17. My answers: no just the forums here no, but I will do that no -- cable modem um, I don't believe so. But I'm not that computer literate my computer deletes cookies every30 days, I believe nope, no changes I suppose this is further proof that I need to upgrade to Tiger. Thanks for the help! Bec
  18. My father has geocached with me and/or Mom. Mom & I both have accounts, but Dad can't be trusted with Mom's computer. He has a geocaching name though and does sign the physical log. Mom & I just add any interesting experiences of his in our logs. Maybe eventually he'll get an account. I gave him my Geko 101 and he's definitely getting better at finding caches! Bec
  19. I had a cache experience this past December that made me giggle. We were hunting it in the dark, and the snow was somewhat deep. You couldn't really see what was in front of you -- or rather what the terrain was actually like under the snow. I took a step and went down into the snow to my knee. Since I had a flashlight in one hand and my GPS in the other, I couldn't brace myself for the resulting fall, in which I went face first into the snow. It was funny, and thankfully didn't hurt, but it was tricky getting up again! Bec

    Booted!

Everyone once in a while, but pretty much everytime I come to the forums, I will get booted. Shuts down my browser (Safari). I'm not sure why this is happening, or what to do to make it stop. I did empty my cache -- maybe that will help..... has anyone experienced this lately? Bec (I did a search, but didn't come up with any other topics on this.)
  21. I have geocached with groups. We have a thing that we call a "finder's tree". When someone spies the cache, they don't say anything, and sometimes keep looking for a bit. Then that person walks away (sometimes to a tree, but sometimes a rock, or whatever.) That person may claim that they have established a finder's tree, or they may just stand around looking smug until others realize that person has found the cache. Eventually, everyone gathers at the finder's tree(or rock, or whatever) and maybe harrasses the persons still searching. The last person to find it retrieves it and then all sign the log. That way everyone gets a chance. I've done this in groups of two also. Bec
  22. Ooop! Sorry if I'm repeating another thread. I got so used to not using the search feature that I didn't check. Bec
  23. I'm sure this sounds like a stupid question, but I've never had a problem with sounding stupid. I like the contcat "card". How to I add my information to it? It just isn't obvious to me. TIA! Bec
  24. I'm having NO LUCK with Safari, it keeps shutting down (never did that before ever, but continues to do it after the update). Firefox and Netscape work fine. After I posted -- I got shut out too. The new forums look nice, but they are troublesome so far. I know it will improve though. Bec
