  1. My job can be great for geocaching: I'm a job coach (I help folks with disabilites learn their jobs). I get to drive all around the south eastern part of my state. My schedule is very flexible (which can be a problem at times too), and I have pletny of times when I am hanging out for an hour or two with nothing to do. Sometimes I work evenings, giving me more daylight hours to cache, and sometimes I work weekends, giving me weekdays to try for FTFs! Since oftentimes housework & yardwork goes undone due to my caching, I think it would be best to have a "someone" home to make sure things are getting done -- husband, man-servant or pool boy would work for me. But I'm single, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Bec
  2. And to think, I was chased away by a pack of these a few days ago: Very cool, and scary, encounter you had! Thanks for sharing! Bec
  3. What a fun discussion! I would love to go caching with Matthew McConaughey, but he HAS to walk in front of me (OMG!!) Russell Crowe would be fun to hunt with...seems to me he would be sort of outdoorsy. And....Billy Bob Thorton...there's just something about that guy that makes me want to stalk him, er, spend time with him.... Bec
  4. I started out as a "paper cacher". I would buy a smaller notebook. The "Fat Lil' Notebook" Brights by Mead is nice. It has a plastic cover and is small enough to fit in a pocket. I would put one cache on a page: cache name, difficulty & terrain, coordinates (parking too, if listed) and an abbreviated description. I would also include the encrypted hint. Then, when I found the cache I would note the date, and write a short blurb about my experience as well as trades made. Pretty much exactly like using cachemate. I would even note my DNFs. Makes a kind of neat way to look back on what you've done and where you've been as well. Now I'm paperless. The only downside is that I need to bring along batteries for the PDA. Never had to do that with my notebook. Bec
  5. I am working on a geocoin collection featuring dog-themed coins. I have a few coins with dogs, but I know there are more out there that I don't know about. Please drop me a line if you are interested in a trade. I have a few WGA campout coins for trade (at this time, this coin has not been released for purchase outside WI. I will share photos of the coins when you contact me with a trade proposal). TIA Bec
  6. Around these parts, we call this "Columbus Caching" -- I've done it frequently. Bec
  7. Thanks -- and as I usually pay by check (paypal), I should really get on it right now!! Bec
  8. If I pay now for my premium membership, which doesn't expire until Sunday, would that be okee-dokee? Yep, I'm sure it's a stupid question. I wasn't even exactly sure how to word it (hence the inability to search for a similar topic) TIA Bec
  9. I'm trying really hard to be patient.....not my best quality. And THANKS for doing this -- it's such a cool idea! Bec
  10. Yeah, I haven't heard anything either. I got my receipt from paypal only. Bec
  11. I ordered a coin a little earlier today and just sent you an email! Bec
  12. My opinion, for what it's worth (which, quite honestly, is nothing): Fake Finds -- Never Log Finds on My Own Caches -- Never, unless it was an adopted cache (which I have never done) Log finds when I was with hider while hidden -- Never, that's not a find. Tried Hard but Could Not Find Cache, But Sure That I Was Near or At Hide Site -- Never Cache Listed Only on Another Site, but Claim Find at GC.COM -- Not even sure how to do this, so no. Found Cache Missing, and Replaced -- Nope, you can't find a missing cache. Missing/Owner Permission -- No. If the cache is replaced, I will make the trip back out to find it for real. Mystery or Puzzle Cache w/o Solving -- On 2 instances I have done this, but only because I was caching with someone who had solved the puzzle. I still went and solved the puzzle on my own afterwards though. I enjoy "assistance" in solving the puzzles, but really want to figure them out for myself. Multi-cache without finding all stages -- if you can figure the multi out without all those steps in between, I say yes. As long as you found the final and signed a log book yes. Bonus Finds -- if the cache owner allows it, yes. I've done multis that allow logging for each stage. There has been a cache and log book at each stage. Moved Cache or Multi-cache With a Newly-Added Stage -- if allowed by the cache owner, yes. Also, it would have to be a cache area that I want to visit again for reasons other than just a smiley. Pocket Caches - logged on an archived cache -- No. Retirement Caches - logged as an archived cache -- No. Pocket Caches - if logged as a multiple event attended log -- had done this in the past, but decided not to do it anymore. I'm also going back and changing all those finds to notes. Retirement caches - if logged as a mutiple event attended log -- never encountered this, but no. Multiple Event Finds -- if allowed by the event host, yes. I stopped doing this a little while ago, and am not changing all my temporary finds into notes. Group Finds -- yes. I prefer the finder's tree method (everyone must spot the cache independently before it is retrieved) but if another cacher is really excited and calls the hootie and grabs the cache, I'll still log it. Armchair Caches -- never done one, but have no problem with anyone logging them. Locationless -- I did a couple in the past and they were fun. No problem with them. Virtuals: Yes. I love "most" virtuals. Events: Yes, although I feel that there should be a separate find count for temporaries at events. But again, I could care less if someone wants to log temporary finds. I just don't do it anymore. Earthcaches -- yes. These were a neat feature. Bec
  13. My geochip -- not pretty, but it works for me: Bec
  14. Wisconsin DNR has a specific policy of no geocaching in State Natural Areas. The Wisconsin Geocaching Association has been working very closely with the DNR in regards to geocaching, and this is one area that they have banned to geocaching. We certainly want to abide by their wishes. No Geocaches Here Bec
  15. Start with a 1/1 cache, and just be persistent. You'll find them. Plus, your 11 year old will probably find them faster than you will! Also, check into a geocaching group in your area and hook up with someone with some experience. You'll get hooked quickly!! Bec
  16. There's a meteorologist at a local news station who recently started geocaching (after his station did a great story on it!) He hides a cache monthly (not on gc.com, only through the station website) and talks about geocaching almost every night. Bec
  17. Nothing really to add here, just wanted to say EXCELLENT word usage here! Bec
  18. Yes, I do make my own item, and it's pretty scary! That's supposed to be a greyhound on the front. I bought a bunch of various colored poker chips. I number them as my own personal means of knowing what chip I put where. I know of only one time when one was logged as taken out of a cache (intentionally) but several geoachers have actually asked for one from me. Bec
  19. And the GPS is that "machine that goes PING!" I once had a hunter holler to me from across a wood, "I know what you're looking for!" and he was very excited to meet an actual geocacher. Another time I was doing a virtual. I had to walk near Lake Michigna on a really cold winter day. Some ladies walking thier dogs seemed to mistake my GPS for a camera, and asked if I was going to take pictures of the ice -- since not many people would just walk out here in this weather. I said "I just came out here to read this sign about fish." (That's what I needed to do for the virtual). I clearly scared them! Bec
  20. I use a Handspring Visor Platinum and store it in the Concept Kitchen Bumper Case: Bumper Case The review says that it won't fit my PDA, but that's just not true! It makes the PDA a little bigger, but I keep it in a reachable pocket in my backpack. It's been dropped and exposed to a number of weather conditions and all is well. Bec
  21. That's all you men care about, our cans..... Bec
  22. As someone who uses geocoins to mark specific personal "missions" (including the sharing of specific coins with others), I think this is a great new feature! Bec
