  1. 1.) No -- although I used to. 2.) I used to do as a way to give kudos to temporary hides that were on par with permanent hides (couldn't be permanent due to an arrangement with the park managers that caches hidden for the event exist only for the event). 3.) It got to be a pain in the caboose (I DID NOT enjoy the logging, but still loved the finding). In fact, I have since gone back and changed all those finds into notes. I think I still have a few left to remove, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I did change somewhere around 150 finds/attendeds to notes though. But, as I stated before, this is what I do. I will not judge another person for his or her actions. But I'm also probably a lot more laid back than Criminal (and I like him too!) Bec
  2. And this was created by a cacher from Wisconsin! Bec
  3. This : One of the members of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association created this handy little device to help with upload geocaches to the GPS. It has since been given the name "The Eggplant" It's nifty. Bec
  4. I understand everything that people are saying. I too have an opnion on logging temporary caches, but it's my personal opinion and really doesn't have any impact on anyone but myself. Maybe I'm against it -- maybe not. But I understand what is being said and everyone has a right to their opinion. But, you are right -- the moment anyone chooses to use their stats as a basis for any sort of comparison with other cachers there is an issue. You are making a comparison against something with lots of different variable that may affect stats. For instance, maybe you use are garmin and are comparing scores against someone using a magellan, or maybe you cache solo and are comparing your stats against a family with 3 children under the age of 5, or maybe your comparing your stats to someone who only caches at night......you can't know who or what your variables are, and therefore it's really hard to make any sort of determinations. And what do the stats tell you? That you are better than someone? Worse? That you hate virtuals and love multis? It's all an individualized thing. But anyway -- just food for thought. I have no desire to get into a debate with anyone (although I enjoy it, I'm just not into it at the moment). Have your opinions. Maybe it'll make cachers change their ways. Maybe not. Just remember that the only behaviors that you have any control over are your own. Bec (one last thing -- and I'll shut up. Someone posted that events in Wisconsin are sanctioned by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association. Nope. I'm on the board, and we don't sanction anything. Caches are approved by Cache Reviewers.)
  5. Just be careful about generalization here. I attended this event, but you'll notice I only have ONE log. Others do too. In Wisconsin we just worry about ourselves and how much fun we are having individually as geocachers. Who cares how others decide to play the game. Fair? Unfair? Not for me to judge. Bec
  6. Good to meet you (in a way). I too, lived in Eau Claire for a while. But mostly I've lived in the boring town of Fort Atkinson -- sorta between Madison and Janesville. Now I can head to Waukesha tomorrow and do some caching! Thanks again!!!!!
  7. Oh yeeah, that worked! Thank you very much! I owe you! Bec
  8. I got an Error: You cannot create a file here, that folder does not exist
  9. okay -- I think I read too fast. I'm try now.... (I get a little worked up over these things)
  10. you know, that would sound easy, but I just don't get that. I can creat a new file (in fact, I have one already named "cache" that I want to use, and I can put the pocket query. But when I Browse and selet the file, it then opens it, and there's nothing there. And I know that the gpx file is in the folder labeled "cache" because when I open it, there it is. I am so lost!
  11. See, this is how dumb I am. When I select from the FILE menu, Export, the CacheMate PDB File... I get a box that is entitled: Export CacheMate PDB File. After the bit about Include additional child waypoints (2 check boxes, which I ignore) is the prompt of: PDB file to create. There's a blank box from which I can select a file using the little tab on the right of the blank box. When I click on that little tab (which has a folder icon) I get a Browse window. From there I don't know where to look or what to do. Does that help any?
  12. So I've used CacheMate with GSAK before without any troubles, but my laptop crashed and I had to get a new one. Got CacheMate and GSAK on the new laptop. I go to export my GSAK database to CacheMate. I get the Export CacheMate to PDB File, but I don't know what to put in the PDB file to create. Can't consult with the old laptop as it is fried. I am able to use a converter on my Mac to send pocket queries to CacheMate, but that's a pain in the patootie. Please help & as soon as possible, please! Bec
  13. Geocachers appear to be a good looking lot! (but I will not post my photo) Bec
  14. Just wanted to add a couple things: looking at the terrain rating, it was a 4. You don't typically need any thing too special for a terrain of 4 (taken from Clayjar's rating system) Sure, 4 is a little over-rated (we've all encountered caches with incorrect ratings), but it says nothing about requiring specialized equipment. And then there is this log entry. This is what cinched it for me, and convinced me that I could find this cache. Read the first letter of each line: Bec
  15. When I hold my mouse over picture icons in cache logs, only half of the picture (I think it is the left half) is being revealed. If I click on the link, then I can view the log and pictures. This is new -- past couple weeks. What is the fix for it? Thanks, Bec
  16. http://coincodes.com/activations/GeoPumpkin/geopumpkin.php Thank you! Bec
  17. Any help on finding an activation code for the Caching The Pumpkin Patch coin? It's a Coins and Pins coin, but the activation code is not listed at coincodes.com. Thanks in advance! Bec
  18. Guess what? My Operation: Spreading Sunshine geocoin has reached its goal! I wanted it to come to Fort Atkinson (my hometown). It arrive last night and I picked it up today. How fun!! The next time I, or someone I know, goes out of state, we'll start this process over again! Bec
  19. Saw your sub-topic and thought you were talking about me....... Bec
  20. I had a similar problem with my SporTrak. I solved it by getting a Garmin (ba-dump-bump!) Actually, if I remember -- I had used up all the waypoint storage -- could that be the problem? But, I did get a Garmin (60cs) shortly thereafter. Bec
  21. typically within 30 feet is considered pretty accurate. There are lots of factors to consider with accuracy: tree cover, hider's GPS, finder's GPS, number of times the hider confirmed coordinates, and probably lots more. When I get about 30-50 feet away on my GPS, I put it away and start looking. Bec
  22. You can also upload coordinates to the yellow eTrex -- the cable is not included, but can easily be found on ebay. You only need on of them. I'd say go with the yellows. Bec
