  1. Get a gel pen, they write on wet paper very well. I found a cache this winter that was frozen in the tree and the lid wouldn't come off either, I used my gel pen to sign the outside of the container and it worked for that also.
  2. A friend of mine and fellow cacher "blackrattle" is currently on a Caribian Cruise and I know they were going to try and grab at least 1 cache at each port of call. Contact them late next week and they could give you some fresh insight on the subject. Have a good trip.
  3. When was the last time you requested the PQ for finds, you can only get it once a week.
  4. Try zooming in, depending on the map settings in your gps you won't see your POI's if you are zoomed out to far. The default setting on my 60csx was 800 feet, by playing around with the map settings you should be able to increase this.
  5. If you have Mapsourse on your computer you can load the gpx file and view the actual route and the order in which the caches appear. I also have Icybus maps in Mapsourse which makes it easier to see the actual route.
  6. If you have a cable to hook the GPSr to your computer you can download directly to the GPSr, if you don't have a cable you can enter the co-rds manually one at a time.
  7. I also use a Dell Axim which I purchased on Ebay for around $100.00. I use cachemate with mine and it works great. Brian
  8. This is probably not the answer you are looking for but I thought I would throw it into the discussion anyway. In order to see the co-rds you have to be a member, either free or paid, and be logged in to the site Brian
  9. Look at the thread I started a few days ago titled "GPS & Laptop" in this forum for some other answers. I have tried it with nroute and it works great. Brian
  10. Thanks for the info Ken, I am sure some of that would have been my next questions. I am using Ibycus Topo maps and they seem to work good together. Brian Glad it works, Brian. A couple of things you need to be aware of: If you ever want to use waypoints and/or routes from Mapsource in nRoute you need to Save As "Garmin GPS Database version 2 (*.GDB)". The default version 3 GDB format will not work in nRoute. nRoute also does not support the newer Garmin map formats, starting with City Navigator 2010 and the newest Topo releases. You need to run them through a "reverser" utility program to get them into a format that nRoute will use. Any map that works in Mapsource 6.13.7 will work in nRoute. If the map doesn't work in Mapsource 6.13.7, you are out of luck in nRoute. Happy trails. ...ken...
  11. Thank You to everybody who answered my question, I now have nroute up and running. I attached my GPS and took a short drive, it seems to work great. Your support made it fast and painless to get setup. Brian
  12. Thanks for that link, I was having problems finding a site to download it from. I have it on my computer now, when I get it up and running I will post a note to let you know how I made out. Thanks everybody for all the help. Brian nRoute is available here: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/msource/ Just scroll to the bottom of the list for ver. 2.76. ...ken...
  13. Thank You, that link will be very helpful in making my choice. List of laptop GPS navigation software programs and reviews
  14. I plan on using mapsource so I can see my position in relation to the geocaches in the area, which is hard to do on a PND.
  15. Thanks for the info, I will give these a try. Any that supports an external GPSr. I have used Mapsource (using nRoute), MS S&T and Delorme over the years with a GPS III, 60CS and I currently do it via BT with a Garmin 10x using MS S&T mostly as this is my map of choice however have switched to Delorme when necessary. I also us GPSgate so I can switch between the map and GSAK, but the program is very buggy and support for it is practically non-existent. Admittedly I never tried it with my Colorado. I currently use Win 7, previously I had a severe virus on my laptop called Vista which it still worked with and on my previous laptop, XP and 2000. No problems with any of them.
  16. What software would be required to show a scrolling map on my laptop with a GPSr attached while driving in my vechile? I have a 60 csx and a laptop with windows 7.
  17. Again thanks for the help, with this advise and a few other threads I found I was able to piece together a nice workable system.
  18. I can now see them as Custom Points of Interest, is there anyway for them to show up as geocaches, or is this asking too much?
  19. Thanks for the advice, I will download the program and give it a try.
  20. I have way points & geocaches stored on the sd card in my 60 CSX but can't see them on the gps, looking for help on how to access the stored data.
  21. I followed this thread with some interest as I had the same question for my Garmin Etrex Summit HC. I tried many ways of adding maps with no luck. After following the advice in this thread I am now able to download topo maps for whatever area of Canada I desire. Thanks for the great advice.
