  1. Ok, I just wanted to see if any of you fellow Mac Heads had been able to get virutal pc to see your USB 60C?? I think the problem is OS X is hijacking the USB port before virtual pc can configure it. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
  2. I just got a 60C (basically same NMEA wise). I use it hooked to my Powerbook running Kismac to wardrive. It works the same as Netstumbler except passive scans. Works good!!
  3. How much of a 'Basemap' are you looking for? I just checked my 60C it has the entire world. Zoomed in on England, it only had major cities. No roads. Basic land forms and such. Hope this helps!
  4. I truly am jealous of the G5. My first Mac is this Flat Panel iMac 800. I love it! But, that speed is just crazy!! congrats, hope the G5 goes well!!
  5. Excellent!!! I just read in the license: "You may: Make one copy as backup use a copy of the product on a home or protable computer if that copy is never loaded at the same time it is loaded on you primary computer" so i guess that is a GO!! Off to start navigating the world!!
  6. Ok I just got my City Select and Bluechart in. I am using my brother's computer now, but I have an old Laptop in the mail for primary GPS use. So, can I put the CS and bluechart on this computer then take it off later and put it on my laptop? will Garmin allow me to unlock it twice, or can I just use the same unlock? I have really no idea how garmin unlocks the software. Thanks for any advice, I am very eager to get this stuff loaded!!!
  7. Ok, I am new to the .gpx files, just got my premium yesterday!! It is great by the way, ran two pocket queries so far!! So, about the gpx, what exactly comes with the waypoints? The only I can get the notes in the 'field' paperless is with a PDA? I tried uploading the gpx file with 100 or so waypoints to my gpsmap 60C, but the note is only the cache name. I tried using GSAK, as I am a mac user, none of the mac programs where working for me. I told it to use smart names when I uploaded. I do have a Palm IIIxe with cacemate (trial). I would love to be able to easily use the 60 for all of my caching with out the palm. Is there a way?? Thanks for any hints or tips!!!
  8. I just found a petition at GPScity for garmin to do work on mac software. Check it out at Garmin Petition I have not made a formal topic for this, I will do that now....
  9. I am not waiting on the CS, I have already purchased the 60c and it is great!! However, I am on the TVnav.com email list. here is what they posted today. Garmin just told me the now expect to start shipping the 60CS around mid March. Sorry for the bad news. Thanks. Doesn't sound good for you guys!! I wonder what exactly Garmin is trying to do with this, if it is intended, or if they are just having problems????
  10. OK Bad news frist! I dropped my GPSMAP 60C like 3 times yesterday!!! The good news it survived!!!! These were some pretty nasty falls. The first on my hardwood floors from about my 5'8" height, no damage at all (battery compartment door came off slightly). The second was the worst, while riding my mountain bike down the local trace-paved trail- I had the unit clipped to the shoulder strap on my camelbak. The swivel joint came unscrewed from the unit and it bit the pavement (asphalt). This put some scratches and scraps on the side of the unit, not the screen!! Third was just in my car, hitting the dash on the way down. Each drop the gps only shut itself off. maybe the batteries came loose? Then I just turned it back on, got sats. like normal!!! So don't fear, DROP that unit!!!!! Hope noone else has to experience it!!!
  11. Ok, here are some pics of the one hand holding of the 60C. It feels great. One discomfort for me, since I have short fingers is my thumb gets slightly cramped after using it for awhile.
  12. I believe the 60 will *work with Metroguide, but I do not have it to say first hand. Others have said it will auto route and others have had problems. As for the battery compartment, this is my first GPSr, so I'm not sure, if I had to guess I'd say it was the same for the rhino's ( I think the rhino and 60 share the same form factor). The power adapter is the same one used for the 76 series. It is the larger of the 2 round 4 pin serial/data plugs. I just purchased an adapter from gpsgeek at a reasonable price.
  13. i have used a keyspan usb adapter. they make good stuff, and is mac compatible! pat
  14. I haven't seen too many opinions on the new gpsmap 60 line. I am sorta new to GPSrs, but I love my new 60c. it does everything I could think of!! Slightly over your budget with the accessories, but I think it is money well spent! Take a look at it. Pat
  15. Here is that link to help the Mac community out! http://www.gpscity.com/gps/brados/3215.1.1.../macsignup.html I forgot to add about the 60C accessories. they use all the same ones the garmin rhinos use. bike, car, marine, friction mounts. Pat
  16. That sounds like an awesome trip!!! swing by south MS and pick me up!! I just got my first GPSr also, my dad and I went in half on it. I decided on the new GPSMap 60C. It seems like the best GPS available. 56 Mb for maps, autorouting, WAAS, waterproof. plus many more features check it out at garmin's website. I too am using Panther, on an iMac, the Garmin Mapsource is not os X compatible, but there is a petition to get garmin to produce OS X software. I will post a link later today for it. As for getting maps into the GPS from your ibook, the only was is virtual PC. This is quite an expensive program. Other programs to get the waypoints back and forth, are out there for OS X, I have not used any yet, so I can not give too much advice on those, try going to version tracker and looking for gps, if you have an airport card, a great utility to pick up wireless HotSpots is Kismac(it maps also). It is a.... email me and I will tell you, too long and off topic for these boards!! You will not be dissapointed with the 60C! I haven't been at all. You can email me at Heidingsfelderp at bellsouth.net for question on virtual PC and the Kismac. Someone should start a Mac section on the boards, or a FAQ for OS X software.... Hope this helps!
