  1. Just wanted to post an update to this problem. I called Garmin tonight and explained my problem. I was helped by a great software rep. who walked me through installing direct from the update DVD. All is well again. Garmin is one of the best companies I have ever had to deal with.
  2. Thanks for the response but I am trying to install V6 first.
  3. I hope someone can offer me help to get me going again. I had City Select V6 and the upgrade V7 loaded on my computer running Windows Me. All was well with the world and everything as far as this program worked well. I decided to upgrade the operation system to Windows XP so other unrelated software would be able to run on my computer. I decided to reformat my hard drive and do a clean install of Windows Me (which I have done in the past) and then upgrade to the Windows XP OS. I did this and then loaded other unrelated software, camera software, games for the kids, printer, ect....all went well. Then the very last software I was going to install was my City Select......... I inserted the Setup CD....it did its thing and requested I put in Disk 1....... I put in disk 1 and nothing happens (the d drive spins but nothing.......) I go to "run" and click on setup....it starts to do its thing then I get a message telling me to run data install from the setup CD......but I can't install data from the setup CD!!! I've tried running the install from the hard drive, same thing happens....I tried switching disks as quickly as possible, same thing happens. I've cleaned the disks...no scratches. I have anti-virus turned off. Does anyone have any ideas??? Is there a simple fix that I can't figure out??? I will try calling Garmin tonight but decided to put this out there as I think I might go insane before lunch.
  4. Sorry for posting this about myself but 50 finds for me is an accomplishment. A little over 3 years and I made it to 50. I thought it would be funny to crunch some numbers... At this rate it would take me: 91 years to make it to JMBella's number of finds, 122 years to make it to Squealy's number of finds, 151 years to make it to Bayonets4U's number of finds, 226 years to make it to Macatac1961's number of finds, and, 358 years to make it to Stayfloopy's number of finds! I better eat more veggies and fruit and buy more batteries.
  5. I want to thank everyone for their replies so far....you all have really been a big help in making my decision.
  6. Hi all....I was wondering if you can give me your opinions on selecting a Ram Mount for my Garmin 60C. I'm pretty much decided on the windsheild mount. I'm looking at these two models: http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram/rapb166ga12.htm http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram/ramb166ga12.htm First off, is everything included with these models that I will need to install in my car? Second, what would you recommend the plastic or aluminum? And lastly, your experience with them if you own one. Thanks for your input...I just want to make sure before I buy when they are in stock again.
  7. Thanks for your replies so far. I looked back at my first post and I wasn't clear about when I got and loaded v6. I've had v6 unlocked well BEFORE the v7 city select and the update came out. I wasn't and am not elegible for the free upgrade. Does this change and replies I have rec. so far???
  8. Hi all. I have City Select v6 and a one GPS 60c. I used one unlock under v6. I have the update DVD for v7. If I unlock the update DVD to my one GPS will I lose the ability to use the second unlock if I ever get another GPS and need it? I hope this doesn't sound confusing. I checked Garmin's site and it appears that I will lose the second unlock but then I read something else and I'm not so sure. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Please answer a question I have about the "lock on road" feature. While driving with city select v6 on the GPS I sometimes notice that my track is not always "locked" on the road. It will look o.k. while zoomed at 800 ft or 500ft. but when I zoom in further I notice the track at times is off the road. I'm not on a calculated route when this happens, I'm not sure if it happens during a calculated route. This is not a biggie problem but I am curious shouldn't the track always be locked onto the road if I have that feature selected? Anyone notice this with your 60 series?
  10. I can't help about your problem but if you can I would return the GPS to the place of purchase and get a new one in exchange. Even if you got it online maybe they would take it back and send a new one. I also have the 60C and once your situation is taken care of you will love it. If you do need to contact Garmin don't worry your in good hands. They will take care of you and YOU WILL BE SATISFIED! I know it must be frustrating but it will work out in the end. Good luck.
  11. A while back I had a Sportrak Map and Mapsend Topo. If I took a trip or a drive during the day I was able to upload the track to my PC at night. I was able to see the track and the speed I was traveling at the time. I believe different colors on the track represented different speeds along the trip. My question is can I do this with my current setup? I have a 60c and city select v6.
  12. Good luck with your new GPS. It's nice to see this thread back at the top again.....I love my 60c!
  13. Went to the Garmin site and looked up authorized online Garmin dealers. This is what I did when I purchased my 60c back in Feb. from gpsnow.com.
  14. Found it for 179.87 including shipping from an authorized Garmin dealer: http://www.gpsdiscount.com/products/index.html?p=638 That is if you can wait.....but I know how difficult that can be!
  15. This is what I found. See here: http://www.gmap.com.mx/ir/
  16. Just for fun and curiousity....do you keep your satellite page set to single color or multi-colors? I have mine set for multi-colors. I also should be doing some work instead of typing this mindless post!
  17. If you want you can go to: Setup-Map-Map Setup Points-Scroll to "User Waypoints" then select distance you want waypoints to be visable on the map screen. For example if you select 20ft. the waypoints won't be visible until you zoom in to 20ft on the map screen. Maybe this can help.
  18. Call Garmin and explain the situation to them. They will give you another unlock code for the "new" GPS. This happened to me and they will give you a new code without any problems. Just have the new unit id and serial # when you call. Good luck.
  19. This brand new unit is working great. No shut-downs, no dust under screen, at best it is +-7 ft. I really feel I was taken care of. I put it in the Garmin case I had for the 60c and am loving it again.
  20. I too had a situation with my GPS. Garmin was very apologetic and sent me a new unit. They were nice every time I called. I like to know a company will take care of me if needed. I think of the money spent not only covers the product but the service as well which is great.
  21. After reading these posts I think I will order this product today. I have the 60c and the Garmin case. I just got tired of the buttons under the clear vinyl and the inexpensive pda protectors were not that clear for me. Don't get me wrong the Garmin case is pretty nice, it will protect the GPS and it does look good, but it's kinda like sitting on a couch that has plastic over it.
  22. I'm going to be an optimist also or become very good friends with the DHL delivery guy!
