  1. I am rescinding my offer. Furthermore I am no longer interested in any MIGO coins. I have a trackable one and the older travelertags trackable one, more than enough for me. If they have that much of a perceived desireable value to them, it's not worth my time and resources to track one down. I may try again when I have my personal coin ready.
  2. Okay, now that the michigan event to distribute the fall migo coins has occured, I'm going to make one last trade offer for one. Here's what I'm willing to trade for it. 1 Swags 1st edition geocoin (mintage is 100, same amount as the Fall MIGO) 1 Gold Dallas Fort Worth (my only one left, it will be a sacrifice from my collection to do it, also is a VERY limited mintage coin) Also 3 coins of your choice from whatever I have left in my trade list. I feel this is about the best offer I can make for one coin. As I said before, I'm not holding my breath on a trade even happening. I'll leave the offer open for 1 day, as I've had other offers on the Swags coin I'll persue at that time.
  3. Actually I'm looking for a cheap GPS for a roommate that I got interested in caching. He's limited on how far from home he can cache (can't drive) and also limited on funds. So I thought if I could find a used GPS for cheap enough, I'd get it for him. Basically I'm looking to NOT spend over 50 bucks, the unit doesn't need to be fancy, just enough functionality to find caches. Thanks for any suggestions or whatnot (I've tried ebay, not much there going quite that cheap).
  4. I own the 130 model, and have found it to be a good unit for my purposes. Any GPS should allow you to find caches, just depends on the features you would like. I find the radio combo handy, anywhere I go I can monitor for other cachers using channel 2 in the park (like that happens often). Another useful thing on the 130 is the addition of a weather radio, with severe weather alerts, can come in REALLY handy if you're on a long hike. The 130 has 24 mbs of memory. Map speaking, you should be able to store a state or two worth of terrain or road maps (unless you're in alaska or texas maybe). I heard about the new color ones, but don't plan to upgrade, as I like the versatility of AA batteries instead of a recharge pack. I haven't noticed much of a problem with it sucking up batteries, I used an etrex before I got it, and noticed the battery life seems to be about the same (granted I don't transmit on the radio much, transmitting uses more power). Of course it uses 3 batteries instead of two. If you're looking to do power saving, leave the WAAS off and if you're still not happy, try using the gps in power save mode.
  5. actually some/most of the minted geocoins out there that aren't usa geocoins, alaska, some of the 2004 mintage coins, etc already have a protective finish on them (even the unepoxied ones tend to) that's why the coins don't feel as metallic I think, because they have a clear coat kind of sealant, to protect them from tarnishing.
  6. I'll buy you a Pangalactic Gargleblaster at Milliways? I think that's what swags is drinkin... Now if you can get me Ford Prefect's towel, I'll trade that for it.
  7. I would suggest purchasing some air-tite style coin holders. The tarnish usually is due to air and humidity, both of which are pretty much sealed out in an airtite.
  8. got mine today, whoohoo! Number 42!!! The answer to life, the universe, and everything. also number 89, most likely that'll be the trader one. Unless someone wants to offer me something REALLY good for 42.
  9. It's nice to see new coins come out, even the limited editions (like 100 coins minted) or group/event specific coins. Things you really can't get unless you were part of that group or have been lucky enough to trade for one. I can't imagine ever having a complete set of coins, frankly there's too many out there to keep a collection like that anyway, if someone can do it, great for them. Originally when I started collecting, I had only purchased coins that had some significance to me personally (ie a state I had visited, geocached in, geocachers I had met, attempting to complete a full set of icons, which btw is getting increasingly difficult to a point of not even caring to complete a set), then I decided I'd like to get a geocoin from every state, so seeing new state coins come out is always good. Somewhere in there, I've expanded those original goals to something more aless of if I saw a new coin for sale I'd buy it, regardless of significace. Eventually I'll reach a point where I'll cut back to my original ide of only collecting coins that mean something to me. That will most likely happen around the time I get my own coin minted (and no, I don't intend to sell them).
  10. too many coins popping up with special editions (same coin, different color). From now on I'm only interested in the garden variety coin, not the gold, silver, red, green, copper, nickel, platinum, etc. Basically it's easier to not run around collecting 5 versions of the same coin I'm still leaving my offer open on the fall edition MIGO coin, as I know they haven't been distributed yet. If I still don't hear anything after the dust settles, I'll forget about it, just not worth wanting a coin that's that improbable to get.
  11. here's mine, just updated tonight, got some new coins in. http://www.joelcd.net/geocaching/geocoinlist.html
  12. It's very much a subjective matter. Personally, I wouldn't trade a MIGO seasonal to get a Swag coin, for example. And although the Swag coin is about four times "rarer" than a Moun10Bike coin in terms of numbers produced, they don't come anywhere near matching the desirability of the latter. Again, that's subjective, and it's not intended to pick on the Swag coins as there are many other limited-run geocoins now and it's pretty clear that not all are created equal, regardless of how few are produced. hence why I upped my offer. But I'm pretty sure the MIGO coins are so sought after (for reasons less than unknown to me) that they're the second hardest to come by only to a moun10bike coin. I really didn't care about the icon, I managed to get a regular MIGO coin in a trade. Shoot, I could offer my whole collection for one MIGO coin, and still be turned down. The sad part is the fall one is the only one I was interested in because of the design, and it's seeming to be the hardest to come by (probably also because of the design). I'm thinking even if I got the gumption to go to the distribution event, I probably still wouldn't get one, as there'll probably be a waiting line with more than 100 people in it. Actually, it'll be a sad day when a personal geocoin (not purchaseable) isn't as desireable as a limited edition that matches it in mintage numbers. Wait, I bet that's already true.
  13. Actually, I'll up the ante a bit on my offer for trading a SWAGs coin AND a dallas fort worth Gold (I already traded my trade one, so I'm offering to give up the one I was intending to keep) for a MIGO Fall edition. Those are two fairly rare coins for 1 rare, I might even be persuaed to toss in a 3rd coin, depending on the traders perrogative. (even with that I still doubt I'll see a taker)
  14. I might have to make it a point to NOT collect limited minted geocoins (unless I'm involved in the minting or have an in to get a coin at mint cost). As it is, the coin craze is pretty intense lately, I can't imagine too many people being able to afford 100 dollar coins (charity auctions aside). Even if I had one, it's only valuable to mostly national geocachers, people I most likely won't ever meet and be able to show my coins off to.
  15. I also have a SWAGs 1st edition coin for trade. I'm really hoping to work something out for a MIGO Fall coin, but I'm doubting I'll see any offers like that.
  16. whoohoo! I'll have an extra of these ones to trade. MIGO fall coin? anyone, anyone, Bueller? comeon, it's 100 coins vs 100 coins...
  17. I had mentioned wanting one, but never saw the link. Am I still okay with the one coin I posted wanting?
  18. Forgive me if this has been brought up before. One of my uses for GSAK is to archive all my cache finds (I'm sure others do that too). That being the case, I really don't care about travelbugs that may or may not be in the cache, etc. Is there a way in GSAK to remove a travelbug that's listed to be in it?
  19. I took a survey (ha! no pun intended, but funny) over on geocoinclub.com about their upcoming geocoin designs. They have one in the works that will look like a traditional benchmark disc. Personally I had thought with all the geocoins out, a benchmark coin would be really neat. Given a coin mint's design options these days, I wonder if they could even curve it so it would even more resemble a mini-benchmark. Being a geocoin collector and knowing the craze for them right now, it'd be easy to get enough cash accumulated to get one minted, if the benchmark hunters were so inclined to want one.

    Migo Fall

kinda a shame. I really like the fall designed one, and would like to get one, but given the limited availability of this one is making it next to impossible to get, even if I managed the impossible of actually attending the event. Least there's one on ebay.... at least the excess money is going for a good cause. Doubt I'd win that one either...
  21. put me down for 1, gotta love a coin with a tornado on it!!!!!!
  22. Here's my newly updated trade list. http://www.joelcd.net/geocaching/geocoinlist.html I've now added a collumn for selling coins. Basically I'm looking to save up money for my personal coin so I don't have to sell those to make it financially feasable. Plus it'll give some of the newer collectors a chance at some coins they might not be able to get a hold of. I'd prefer checks over paypal though, as paypal funds tend to end up going towards buying new geocoins, kinda defeats my purpose of saving.
  23. I've got a Dallas Fort Worth Gold that I'm looking to make a good trade with. Hoping to trade for a MIGO Fall edition, considering I'd really like that coin, I'd toss in an extra coin or two (trading party's choice) for one of them.
