My friend has just discovered geocaching but does not have a gps...are there any apps (especially free ones) that she could get on her Android so she could start caching?

It's great to know I'm not the only cacher in Burslem I can't wait to buy a gps and start caching again as when I first started caching I borrowed a gps from a friend. I'm really looking forward to exploring caches in the Peak District but also can't wait to do some of the local ones

I had the same problem when I tried to join Tried several times but then just gave up as there seems to be a problem with the site

I moved to Burslem last month. Have found loads of great places to go walking so just need to buy a gps off ebay and I'm going to start finding some caches

Awwww I wish I could make it but I've already got plans this weekend. Hope I can make it to the next event though, I'd love to meet some more cachers

I'm still pretty new to caching and have just moved to Stoke-on-Trent. It would be nice to get to know some people in the area as I don't really know anyone here. Does anyone live in my neck of the woods?

Thanks very much for the advice, this type of device looks way out of my league in terms of technology, I wouldn't have the first idea about downloading maps or connecting the device to the computer. I think I just need a very basic gps for now and hopefully I'll get to know some other cachers who live locally, then I'll be able to pick their brains for more info about more sophisticated devices.

Thanks, I think I'll have a look on ebay and see if I can get one for a good price, I'm really keen to get caching again!! I started recently too, and I went with the eTrex H. It was the cheapest I could find, and I managed to get it on ebay for £50, although I think that might have just been a lucky bargain. The eTrex is an entry level device though, a cheap option from a good manufacturer, and if you're already comfortable with using it it's probably the most sensible option

Can anyone help me...I initially borrowed a friend's GPS (E Trex) to start caching and very quickly became hooked on it!! She needed her GPS back after a few months and as I'm currently unemployed I'm wondering if it's possible to get a GPS for around £50 as I would love to continue caching. I'm based in the UK and am a total technophobe so just want something that's fairly idiot proof...can anyone give me any advice of what make of GPS to look for or where to look to pick up a cheap one that will do the job. Well after the first cache we ended up going out and finding two more this afternoon...think maybe this is going to become an obsession!!

WooHoo!!! We found it!!! It was only about 900m from where we parked the car and was a great walk along a footpath to a little woody area and after searching around the tress for 10 mins we found it!!! It was so exciting to find my first ever cache...going to look for another one to try tomorrow!!!

Well I'll shortly be setting off in search of my first ever cache!! I've borrowed a gps off a friend and am looking forward to having a go!! Not totally sure exactly how the gps works, but the cache I've chosen is quite a simple one in an area I know so I thought it would be a good one to start with. Wish me luck!! Off I go!!!

Okay I've never tried this but really want to give it a go. Can anyone tell me what the cheapest gps is that would be suitable for geocaching. Thanks!!
