  1. I'm curious too..."That's a strange expression, Bruce."
  2. I just tried this and it seems to work. Download the .gpx file of the cache you want to view. Download GPS Babel from here http://www.gpsbabel.org/ Open the .gpx file in Babel. Save the output file as a .vcf (for ipod) Copy the .vcf file to the contacts folder on your ipod. It will then show up in your contacts list. I have not been able to edit the .vcf file to create a custom title like “PD’s Cache” or edit out extraneous information in the description like “this is a nice park.” This would be time consuming to do for many caches. For one or two at a time it seems to work. Does anyone know a better way? Am I doing it right?
  3. Yes, me too. Just pretend that I know nothing about this. How do I take a cache description and make it ipod compatible?
  4. I laughed out loud when they used subtitles for Team Mullet's dialogue.
  5. That's what I'm asking about that's what I need. If they're widely available I'll go hit up a Best Buy or something.
  6. Uh-oh! My new home computer has no serial ports, it's USB only. Is there a serial port to USB converter cable that I can use to connect my Magellan Sportrak to my PC? I know what you all are thinking. Why doesn't he just buy a new GPS? Like one with a USB connection? Well until I make enough money from recycling aluminum cans and donating bodily fluids I'm stuck with old reliable Sportrak. Thanks!
  7. You might want to try this. Nothing to download. http://jeeep.com/details/coord/
  8. Today's Cacher Magazine is written by geocachers for geocachers. Check it out!
  9. By blinker size I'm guessing you are refering to a micro sized cache? The Texas Geocaching Association has some stash notes and log sheets on their website. You still have to print them and use scissors or a knife. I've never tried to make my own, I've never really needed to.
  10. I guess it's allowed. Here's a cache that might be in a library. GC57C8
  11. This happens to me every time. Does it ever stop? Actually I don't want it to stop.
  12. You did the right thing by reporting the erratic driving of that vehicle. It's not a good idea to drive and watch the GPS. I think in the first couple pages of the GPS manual it has a disclaimer about using the GPS while driving or operating a vehicle. Don't worry about being embarrassed. You did the right thing.
  13. Yes, you might look suspicious at first glance. Police are taught to use discretion when dealing with people. Never lie about what you are doing. Tell them that you have permission to place a geocache and that is what you are doing. Be prepared to show ID and explain what geocaching is. My first run in with the police I was caching at night. I explained what I was doing to the first officer, then backup arrived and I explained to the new officer what I was doing, then a Sgt. showed up and I had to explain a 3rd time to the Sgt. what I was doing. Whew! This was before Geocacher University had any brochures, but I could have used one that night. They checked my ID and looked in my car through the windows with a flashlight. I was told to leave and that's all that happened.
  14. For an ammo box or regular size cache I use the standard note. English on one side and Spanish on the other side. My cache was stolen and the laminated note was the only thing left. For a micro I use the standard micro cache note.
  15. I wear a size 12 shoe so my foot is literally "one foot." I can always pace out any short distances. I also know there are 3 feet to a yard so I can guesstimate longer distances. I don't mess with meters or kilometers.
  16. Prairie Dogs have VERY sharp teeth and claws! One of my caches was muggled (stolen) yesterday. I'm going to whine about it in the forums later today. If only I had busted the person...
  17. The staff at Groundspeak are great! One email is all it took. Thanks, Kerry!
  18. forgot to log out then back in. How 'bout now?
  19. changing my signature line and forum title.
  20. The account is not validated and doesn't seem to be a cache history. Last login was in February of 2002!
  21. I would like the name "Prairie Dog" instead of the Prairie Dog 76 that I've been using. Does anyone see a problem with that? I'll email Groundspeak and ask.
  22. I suppose if there were a group of cachers who were all friends and wanted to see who could get the most finds in a day or a week. A feature like you're describing would be helpful.
