  1. Patience, it will get moved. My first geocoin was picked up the day after I turned it loose. It was held for over 4 months. (Winter in Wisconsin). After being placed in an other cache it was picked up and ended up in England. It is now in Germany.
  2. As has been touched upon already, CONDITIONING is the key. A smart charger will condition the batteries by charging and discharging them in a cycle. What this does is make it so the batteries will charge to their maximum rating. I have done this on my cheap Rayovac green label AA batteries. They never used to last very long but now can go as long as any other brand I have. I use the La Crosse BC900. Amazon has it for $40 and it comes with 4 AA 2600mah and 4 AAA 1000mah. BTW conditioning can take along time on trickle mode. 4 batteries usually take 48 hours or so. But definitely worth it.
  3. Vista print for inexpensive signs. On the right side of the page you can upload a custom design. Base price for a PAIR of signs is $20. Last time I ordered business cards with a custom design there was no extra fee. Of course, YMMV. http://www.vistaprint.com/car-door-magnets...v=designmethods BTW Illustrator files need to be in .ai format. They also take .pdf, .psd, and high res jpg (300dpi) among other types.
  4. I've seen this before too. It is no real big as long as the person(s) collecting all the TB and coins are moving them along. I often pick up a TB or coin without leaving anything. If there are multiple I alway make sure to leave some behind for other cachers. Of course I also send out my TB and coins sometimes without getting anything.
  5. It carries just fine on the other shoulder as well. The only other thing is if you need the buckle for the strap it is now behind you. As far as colors go there are several types of camo unless you want digital woodland. Solid colors are tan, brown, black and OD green. Other sellers might have more. (I did find a US seller with digital woodland, but the price is $25 + $9 shipping.)
  6. It's hard to tell. Since it is your back, only you will know. With everything I have shown in my review the bag weighs in at just under 5 pounds.
  7. I really havent field test it yet, but it does not seem to interfere with my arm. It also can be rotated to the front or back of the body without much trouble. As for thick brush, I think the thicker the brush is the it may get caught, but that will happen with any gear.
  8. ....continued. Moving around to the front of the bag and unbuckling the flap we find yet another pouch with a pocket on the outside. 3" x 5" index cards are shown for scale. Inside the pouch there is more than enough room for our Garmin Nuvi 200. Again, there is also a mesh pocket. The final, and main compartment is a large roomy one. Measuring 8 inches wide by 4 inches front to back and 8 inches deep it was plenty of room for swag and travel bugs. The top is kept closed with a draw string and nylon. This may also be stuffed down into the compartment for quicker access. Doing this blocks the two pockets located inside. Finally a picture of me wearing the geobag. I stand 5' 10" tall and weigh in at 190# so you have something to scale on. I hope this answered everyone's questions about this bag. If you have anymore just post them on this thread.
  9. OK, the shots are done. Now on with the review. This bag is very well made. Heavy stiching and zippers are everywhere. Ofcourse, only time will tell if it really holds up. Since we will only be using it for GeoCaching I am guessing we get many years of use out of it. One of the reasons I selected this model is it has a mesh pocket for a water bottle. The small pocket on the flap is great for holding small items such as pens, pencils, markers and such. Moving to the top of the bag we see a large straight zippered compartment and a pouch on top of the flap. This pouch has several Molle straps to attach additional pouches and accessories. I find the top pouch a good place for the DeLorme PN-20, our main GPSr. The large straight zippered compartment holds Mrs.Hofy's notebook. It also has some velcro spots and some webbing included. Hiding on the right side strap, under another group of Molle straps I found another pocket. Great for keeping a small flashlight. Speaking of flashlights, our other one fits in this buckled pouch on the left strap. This would also be a good pocket for a multi-tool like a Leatherman. Just below this on the left side (as one would look at it while wearing the bag) is another zippered pouch. We are putting our Garmin etrex in there. Also there are more Molle straps on this pouch and inside a small pocket. Located behind this pouch is another pocket where I have stashed our supply of rechargeable batteries. continued...
  10. The bag came today. Wow does it have a lot of pockets! I'll be doing some product photography tomorrow, so I get some shots of it in the light tent to post here.
  11. This is the one I actually ended up ordering. I just had trouble finding them in my searches. Utility Shoulder Bag was the key. Look for a review and more pictures when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260389830398
  12. Thanks for the replies. I am ordering the one off eBay. I know it isnt as good as a real Maxpedition Versipack but it will have to do for now. As far as Surplus stores go, well there just aren't any around here anymore. 20 years ago every town had one. Kinda bums me out as I liked getting stuff from them. Oh well. Time to go find some more caches!
  13. Can anyone provide me with a link where I can purchase a Versipack knock off? I have found several references to them on the forums but no solid links. Thanks
  14. Walmart has the DeLorme PN20 for $138. The Topo software is worth almost $100. Plus this unit will do paperless caching.
  15. We just got our Pn20 last week and love it. Our other handheld is/was a Garmin eTrex Cx and the DeLorme Pn20 blows it out of the water. Example is our first outing with the DeLorme involved a cache that was almost a half a mile away from the parking area. This was a 4 for terrain cache. No trails. The Pn20 took us to within 5 feet of the cache! This is through heavy pine cover with trees reaching 60 feet high. The next cache was only a 1.5 terrain with mixed cover and the DeLorme took us to within 1 foot!!!! Add in the paperless caching and it is a no brainer for only $132US
  16. Yep, and WalMart has them for $132. Ordered mine already.
  17. Well I guess that answers my questions, Thank you both. Some of the info I was reading must have been old or from people who didnt update the firmware. BTW this unit will be used only for Geocaching. I do have a Nuvi for the car for driving and getting me to the cache areas.
  18. Thanks for the replies! One more question. I have been doing lots of reading on this unit, how slow is it really? Both start up and redraw. Thanks again.
  19. How is the sensitivity / accuracy of the DeLorme PN-20 vs the Garmin eTrex Legend Cx I have now? The Garmin is driving me nuts. Right now there are no leaves on the trees and it goes flaky even under light branch cover and will be off by upto 50 feet. Other times it is good down to a couple of feet away from a cache. I see the price has really dropped on the PN-20 and I am thinking of getting one.
  20. Could you post a link please? The only one I find is $18.99 + shipping. Thanks http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...0M&v=glance Thanks! (They called it a BRACKT, no wonder I couldnt find it!) now ordered.
  21. Could you post a link please? The only one I find is $18.99 + shipping. Thanks
  22. I have looked high and low for the clip that holds the Nuvi 200 in place. All I can find for sale is the suction cup / ball end mount. I already have 2 of these. I need the other end. I have checked with Garmin, aftermarket suppliers and ebay. Why is this simple little clip so hard to find? Clip needed circled in picture below.
  23. I am going to be picking up some of these soon. I hope they have a better recharge life than the NiMH rechargeables I have used in the past. (10 recharges and they where junk)
  24. As said before, A drill press. I am just starting to release geocoins and am worried about theft too. After drilling I have used the ball chain and also a split ring (for keys) then what I do is solder the ballchain connector or ends of the ring shut. I dont know how much this will help but we will see. Also I add pictures of these items to the coins page. Maybe, just maybe, this will stop the coin thieves from even going to the cache.
