Here we are the 29th and I still don't have my code. My geocaching partner, Mr. Popcorn, got his on the 24th.
I like the duck and the treasure chest idea but I haven't decided what to do with mine, if I ever get it. -
How would you deal with a cacher who goes to a cache you've disabled, places his own container and marks it found? Then notifies you of what he's done and says "Hope that's OK"?
The container they placed and logged is what's considered a "throwdown". There's a Help Center article on them here. Throwdowns are very much discouraged, and you're well within your rights to delete the cacher's log.
BTW, is the cache in question "Love, Learn & Live the Arts"? If so, it's been disabled for a very long time (coming up on 9 months). At the very least, you should post a note on there explaining your plans for fixing up the cache (e.g. if you're waiting for the weather to improve, sourcing a new container, etc.). If you don't, you run the risk of a reviewer coming along and taking action on what appears at-a-glance to be an unmaintained cache, or a busy-body cacher trying to "help" you.
Good point. I wonder what circumstances would allow a cache to be disabled for 9 months? In this case would the finder have been justified in posting a needs archived?
It was disabled just before the snow came and we had snow last week. For 6 months it was under at least 4 feet of snow. I know, because many mornings I had to shovel my way into work.

No, it didn't happen to my cache, but my husband's. He's actually had the same cacher offer to 'fix' missing caches, when they aren't actually missing, said cacher just hasn't found them. This cacher has over 8000 finds and I'm starting to wonder how many he's actually found.
You're right about Love... though. I need to replace the container this week.

They are the OP's trackables, so they are free to do what they like with them! I find nothing wrong with discoveries.
As far as a sheet, you'll just have to manually enter them all in and print it out.
I enjoy sharing some of my collection, but I don't carry them around at events or leave them unattended. I do display a list of my trackables numbers on my vehicle for discovery, which is more common place now as I see others doing the same at events.
At almost every event I've attended 4 or 5 cachers have brought binders and boxes of trackables, mostly coins, so that everyone who wishes can view them. They usually have a sheet with all the tracking numbers on it. I rarely bother to log a coin I've discovered that way, I just enjoy looking at them.

There should be a text document located in the Garmin folder of your GPS called "geocache_visits". If you open the document in notepad (or similar) it should give you something like this:

Yesterday while out caching, made notes about the various caches on my etrex 30. I can find no way to access these notes now. I know I'm not the most technologically advanced person but...

It's not complicated.
If your event stats exceeds the actual number of event caches you've been to, you're lying. Eye-roll that
Different stats. Hosted and Attended. What if you could not attend one of the events you hosted? Would you delete that event from your hosted stats? If you don't, then by your reasoning you are lying.
Do you add your hides to your finds and use that number as your caches? Sounds the same as adding hosted events to attended events to get your number of events...
Not to mention that if souvenirs are important to you not logging that you've attended means you don't get a souvenir for a special event that you've hosted.

If people want to stick to the rules verbatim that's just fine. But you have to remember that not all cachers live in an area with a heavy cache density, so to have them go for a cache-a-day is asking a bit much. I myself live in a rural community where the nearest cache to me now is about a 30 minute drive, and getting further. Driving an hour each day is unreasonable, expensive and not very environmental friendly.
I myself have been splitting the difference and going out every few days. Yesterday I picked up 4 caches, I'll wait until I've logged them and then go out again and pick up a couple more.
I'm happy in doing that, I try and keep to the spirit of the game as best as I can, and the best part. . . it's getting me out of the house a lot more.
I am sticking to the spirit of the challenge, going out once a day to find a cache. It is not very environmentally friendly, I agree, because where we'd drive out 20 miles and pick up 10 or 12 in an afternoon we're now driving those 20 miles every day for 10 or 12 days.

Another cacher who likes this 31 days of caching for August. I was just wondering. I have all 17 so far. Sooooo, if we do all 31 will we get another one for the "31 Days of Caching completed"??? Anyone know???
It would be nice if they could be exchanged at the end of the month for a “Completed the 31 days of Geocaching" souvenirs.
When I started this challenge I thought it would be one souvenir for successfully completing all 31. I was rather taken aback by a souvenir on the first day then realized I hadn't read the description of the challenge properly. I would really like to trade the 31 daily souvenirs for one "Challenge Completed" souvenir.

Does anyone know if a souvenir will be coming out for Italy? I went there last year and did some geocaching. I met some very nice Italian cachers. How about Costa Rica as well?
When Groundspeak released the last batch of souvenirs around the time of the 2,000,000th published cache, they stated that they would not be releasing more country based souvenirs. Countries such as Italy, Belgium, Mexico, Costa Rica, and about 200 other countries did not make the cut and thus souvenirs are only available for countries with largest numbers of caches. I started a thread in the features and suggestions to continue releasing country based souvenirs a couple of days after Groundspeak said that would stop releasing them and it's had a considerable amount of support. Just recently, however, in response to a request for a souvenir for Puerto Rico, there was an indication that GS might release more country based souvenirs but there hasn't been any sort of commitment or timeline.
If GS did start to release more country based souvenirs, Italy would likely be at the top of the list but there are probably a few countries that would be ahead of Costa Rica. Personally, I'd like to see souvenirs for both countries as they're two of my favorite places in the world and I've found caches in both of them.
Darn, I worked so hard to convince my non-geocaching travelling partner to humour me as I searched for a cache in Venice so I could collect a souvenir. How disappointing to find out that there is none for Italy.

Well, our coins are finally on the move again...they are at the UPS facility 10 miles from home. Looks like they will be here today. Brian and Heather will get to open the box up while I am out of town for a few days.
Ours arrived at the sorting facility (USPS) in San Francisco on Nov. 20th, cleared Customs in Canada on Nov. 25th and were waiting for me at the Post Office in Labrador yesterday (28th) - that's faster than I've received some mail from within the Atlantic provinces!

Does anyone have any reviews on the Legend HCX as a caching tool? I am looking at purchasing one but want to make sure it will work for basic international caching.

I've used that model for several years and I really like it. Now, I haven't done any int'l caching so I don't know how it would work for that but since you can upload maps to it I don't see that it would be much of a problem. I should find out next summer.

That is my guess also. I have not found a way and I doubt that it can be done since geocaches are identified with a unique CacheID and there is no way to enter that manually.
So the more elaborate the unit the less useful it is. Very annoying if you head out on the spur of the moment. For some things I love the 30 but more than once I've come very close to pitching it in the woods and reverting to my Legend.

Exactly. In other units as long as you have the geocache icon it displays in the geocache list and you can record finds. Not so with the eTrex 30.

I'm used to adding caches to my GPSr manually, on the fly so to speak, if my caching partners have caches saved that I don't. Never had any problem with the Legend, Legend HCx or the 60CSx. Why does my eTrex 30 not recognize that I've entered a cache rather than a random waypoint? What am I doing wrong? It may very well be me but it seems that the more you can do electronically (transfer caches between units) the less you can do manually -- not much good when your caching partners are using older units.

Having problem to get my event publish. My reviewer say that I can´t have 1. a price for the eventcoin and 2. have a picture of the coin in my cache note. He refered to the text 2. Commercial caches are disallowed.
Have someone else here had same problem and is this eventcoin to commercial for Groundspeak?
I've chosen not to let anyone see the coin before the event. I used the non-coloured version as background on the page so they could see the art work but kept the colours to myself and this forum (I'm not sure how many of our local cachers lurk here). I guess I wisely decided not to mention price on the listing. I really can't decide anyway until I find out what custom charges are going to be.

We had a guy in our area who was notorious for doing that. A few times I've found a "missing" cache container a few feet from where he'd dropped his "replacement". We all called him out on it and I never logged a cache if all I could find was his replacement container.
He's left our area now and he's up to his old tricks in someone else's neck of the woods. But there are cachers on to him there too, and his logs get deleted by the owners.
What personal satisfaction can you possibly get from fake stats?!?!?! That would be like me claiming I've walked 3 miles because my fitbit recorded every movement of my arm while I was raking leaves on a 10'x10' lawn while standing in place for much of it.
