  1. I have no trouble caching with only my iphone. With the use of the Groundspeak app and another that allows me to load PQ's. Why would i need a $400 GPSr when i have one that also is a phone, address book, internet browser and an ipod for the long trekks to those caches.
  2. I experienced the same issue with battery life. i bought a cheap inverter for my truck and while driving between caches i plug my iPhone in so that it stays charged. Just an idea. They're pretty cheap and have conventional outlets on them, you can use the cord that came with your iPhone to charge it as well.
  3. The battery life would be a definite plus but my wife and i have over 80 finds now and they have all been done on an iPhone. I bought a cheap inverter for my truck. When i get back in the truck to go to the next cache location. I plug my phone in to keep the battery completely charged for that difficult hide. I would have to admit though. There has been more than one occasion that i have had to cut the search for a cache short because my battery was getting ready to die. As for the accuracy, haven't had a problem. You sometimes have to be patient or restart the google maps app to get the GPS to update but it has always taken me right to the object.
  4. If your ever in the southern ohio area. Check out my Lazy Man Series of caches. They are all drive up. 4 in the series so far with more to come. GC1HRVK GC1HRVP GC1HRVQ GC1HRVV
  5. I agree with tands. I use gpslite for free to get my coords when i'm placing a new hide. Haven't had anyone complain about them being off yet.
  6. Wow, you know i can't believe the amount of whining that has been in this thread. It al comes down to do your homework. What i'm reading here is that if i'm on vacation, i want someone else to do all the leg work for me so i can just go find the caches. I'm a relative newcomer and i have found caches that should be archived due to being wet or bad location or whatever. The thrill for me is in the hunt, i don't care what i find when i get there, just that i took the time to go find it and seen something new. My 5 YO daughter hunts with me a good bit and you should see the excitement in her eyes when she finds the cache. She doesn't care whether it's an egg or a baggie or what it is, she's just delighted to have found it. I geuss what i'm saying is if you want quality only caches to find. Do the work yourself and you'll never be disappointed. I cache in Indiana a good bit with my sister, nephew and brother in law and can honestly say i have never found a bad cache. Just my 2 cents worth, flame away! I would vote no on a rating system, just to state my opinion.

  8. Sorry bud. Can't help ya there as i don't use the compass. I only use the Geocaching app to find the ones i'm after and google maps to lead me.
  9. Sorry if this has been asked / answered already... How good is the GPS in the 3G? Are you able to strictly use the iPhone (no handheld GPS)? Or is it not as accruate? Good enough? Thanks! Personally i think it is absolutely awesome. That's all i use. I do not own a GPSr and have no desire to buy one. I cache only with my shiny new 3G iPhone. Get the app though or you will be screwed if you wind up in an area with no cell service.
  10. OK. My first suggestion would be not to use the compass in the software. Once you have found a cache you would like to pursue. Try these steps and see if it works better for you. 1. Find the cache you want to locate in the software. 2. Save the cache so you can look at logs, hints and such quicker while out on the trail. 3. Click on the map link to open Google Maps on the iPhone. 4. The red pin is the cache. Click the crosshairs in the bottom left corner to turn the GPS on in Google maps. 5. It should lead you to your destination. Once onsite, zoom the map all the way in for better accuracy but also be carefull as the GPS can get a little funky when zoomed in that far. *Side Note* If you use the directions tab in Google Maps, be carefull once getting on site as it moves the red cache pin to the closest road. You will need to go back into the GeoCaching app on your iPhone and hit the map link and the gps link in Google maps again. Hope this helps, if it doesn't please let me know and i will try to be of more help.
  11. First off. Great app. Was just curious if there was any type of time frame on that first update? Reason I ask is that I have started to use it more & more and it's getting more difficult to remember what caches I have found. Not complaining as I love the app and can't wait to use it more.
