  1. I want to get Ram mounts for my Garmin E-trex Vista. Does anyone know a good place to figure out what you need. I want a suction cup mount for the truck and a bicycle mount. I've been wading through all the part numbers but want to be sure I'm getting the right thing. Thanks!
  2. FWIW, Jumpmaster is used to calculate jump points at high altitudes based on desired landing point, velocity, altitude and windspeed. I don't jump myself, but there is a manual on Garmin's site here Jumpmaster PDF Its interesting info and could be nice to know in case you ever have to bail out of a commercial 767
  3. I could be wrong, but I believe the gray bars represent satellites that are receiving updated information and once all the information has been received the bars will go black. Once you have 3 or 4 black bars you should be able to navigate.
  4. I just noticed on Toyota's website that some of their 2004 model year cars offer voice activated gps nav. systems. You just tell the car where you want to go and it shows you how to get there. Soon the cars will just drive themselves.
  5. The only maps you can actually download to the Vista are from Garmin's Mapsource CD-ROMs. Mapsource Topo USA is good for getting terrain and some backroad detail but doesn't have a lot of trails. I haven't used any other software so someone else will have to chime in there.
  6. I haven't really tested the batteries yet, I'm just using Duracell alkalines. I just want an idea of what to expect in real life vs. what Garmin states on their site.
  7. Hi, I just got a Garmin Etrex Vista for Christmas and am wondering what makes the battery usage so much lower than other etrex models? I notice that the Legend is rated to get 18hrs, the Venture 20hrs and the Vista 12 hours. I know the vista has the compass and barometer...is this rating assuming that the compass and barometer are being on? Will the battery life be more like 20 hours with WAAS, compass, and altimeter disabled. I guess a better question might be for the other Vista owners is how long do your batteries last and under what circumstances. Thanks for any help...as soon as the freeze lifts here in PA I hope to try my hand at this geocaching...looks fun!
