  1. Is your Montana mounted in anything when you get the alert or is it in your hand? The reason I ask is because when my 650 is in the auto mount, I do get sounds "if" the alert pops up. I say if because larger POI files with proximity alerts still do not work properly.
  2. That's more of a Garmin problem. I find when loading larger files with lots of logs it can hang. One workaround is to clear the current geocache files and do a full startup. Then load your caches and it should load ok.
  3. Have you tried that search method from the Where To? menu? I didn't have any problems with it from there.
  4. I have the same problem...typing is a vrapshoot with no way of knowing which keystroke will actuate which letter/symbol/numeral...takes forever and is a guessing game at best. That's a hardware issue. You need to get a hold of garmin and get it repaired/replaced.
  5. Go to Waypoint Manager, then hit the menu it will give you Search Near.
  6. Doing it that way, mine locks up on 2.7. I don't however have to pull the battery. I hold the power button and get three beeps, about 5 or 6 seconds and then it shuts off. Hit the power button again and it fires right up.
  7. No mine does not. Just for the heck of it, I just zoomed out and panned to California, I'm in NY, and searched. It shows everything about 2500 miles away with no freezes.
  8. I panned 20 miles away from my current position and it searched just fine.
  9. Mine works fine. I can pan all over the map, hit the Use button then go to my extras where my custom POI's are and it searches properly. What maps do you have loaded and activated?
  10. Mapsource isn't designed to work with the new paperless units. There are two things you can do. 1. Use Basecamp. It is designed for Garmin's paperless units. 2. Use the Open command in Mapsource to open the actual waypoint file on the unit.
  11. It sounds like you have a broken connection between the batteries and the main board. The screen going blank the way it does is indicative of that. If your not mechanically/electrically inclined, I'd suggest saving up until you can send it in to be fixed.
  12. This is more than likely corrected in a firmware update. I just scrolled down to 40 miles from my center point which is roughly 2200 caches.
  13. I still can't get it. Not through webupdater and not by the direct link.
  14. This info is incorrect for the GPSMap 62s. You can load 200 GPX files on this unit. You just have to make sure they have different names. If you're using GSAK, I recommend the Garmin Export macro to load Garmin units. Not only does it load all the geocaches selected but it will also load all of your found and placed caches and adds a handful of other poi files for marking the cache icons in various ways.
  15. Would be nice to try it but it's not up yet. Anytime I update a page, I make sure the files are there first.
  16. I have no freezes with mine if it's off and does an auto start via mounting it in the cradle. Maybe try reinstalling the firmware and see if that clears anything up. Also, I have mine set to automotive profile in the cradle and geocaching profile out of the cradle. Edit: I'm running 2.60 firmware also.
  17. I'm not having any issues with the auto mount other than it asking to go to mass storage when placing in the mount. Does the cigarette lighter your using stay powered up when your ignition key is off? Mine stays powered all the time so I can leave my Montana in the mount and it will charge when I'm away from the vehicle. I have a feeling it may be a quick power cycling issue caused by starting your vehicle that is causing some of the issues.
  18. http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx Click on the Garmin tab for instructions.
  19. Hook your Dakota up to your computer and copy the PQ files you downloaded to the X:\Garmin\GPX drive. The "X" being whatever drive letter is assigned to you GPSr. Then restart your GPSr and all of the caches in those files will be loaded onto your GPSr. After marking caches found, hook your GPSr up to your computer again and this time go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx Click on the Garmin tab half way down the page and it will give you step by step instructions on how to load the fieldnotes file and log your caches.
  20. I had a PN-40 that suffered a similar fate. We tipped a canoe in knee deep water and it went over. It was under for all of two minutes and it died shortly there after. The PN-40 also has IPX7 standards. I believe IPX7 testing is in stagnate water, not flowing water like a river or stream. I think the flowing water increases the pressure on the seals allowing water to penetrate.
  21. If city navigator is active, it will overlay over the topo maps causing the lines not to show.
  22. You can pick up the Montana 600 for less than $500 bucks, the 650 for $550. Just a few weeks ago the 650 was on sale at EMS for $450. Do the math over and you can carry one (Montana) for the price of two (62 + Nuvi). Someone else may have to buy the pizza though. I got mine from EMS. $500.17 to my door in three days over the fourth of july weekend. My 62s was $428 from EMS.
  23. The garmin maps I "downloaded" have lane assist. It's just the icon in the top left corner of the screen by it does show you what lane you need to be in.
  24. You must be using a voice other than American Jill. Any other voice will not work. The Dev Team know about it. Cheers, The voices should be working with firmware 2.60. I know dr. Nightmare voice works on mine now.
  25. What you can do with the shields I made is register them as store bought after they are available. Then it's only $3.95 to get it warrantied.
