  1. Send me a msg with your email address and I'll send you the current list (current as of this morning). Might be able to work something out for the lot if you are actually interested I would, but with the threads being around forever, I'll be getting messages for years to come about these items. Still happening for the geobikes. Edited the signature as you where typing this msg. Yes that forum is dead. Didn't think I should bother paying to run it if not involved anymore. No one was interested in carrying it on, so... Pick me ... pick ME !! msg me your email and the list will be out. Same as the others, msg me your email and I'll send the list Send me a msg with your email and we can work something out about a lot price. Need to be quick as the others are going to pick the inventory clean. Send your email if you want that first pick
  2. I'll be replying to the pm's and emails as soon as a full inventory is completed. I wasn't planning on this being a plug and really should have had my ducks in a line.
  3. My wife and I decided to shut down out online geocaching store as we lost interest in geocaching and the local politics that comes with it. That being said, we still have a couple hundred coins and other trackables and are looking for ideas as to how to clear out my office of this stuff. As of right now, it's looking like ebay, kijiji and craigslist are going to be the slow, even at half retail price. Any thoughts?
  4. Guess I had a bit of a brain fart. http://geocaching.com/adopt works for trackables as well as geocaches.
  5. Is it possible to adopt a trackable or reactivate? I have a reasonable collections of coins and other trackables that have never been in the wild, but have been activated (under my name) and Discovered at various events. I'd like to be able to sell and/or give them away as I have no more use for them. Is this possible, or should I just drop them off at a local thrift store?
  6. Not doing the blaze of glory bit as much fun as that could be.
  7. Yeah, that'll show'em. You know, drama always blows over eventually. After a while, you look back on stuff and think to yourself "why did I let myself get so worked up over that?" Of course, if you have decided that caching isn't for you, then you could always just quietly slip away, and let your account go stagnant. B. I should have mentioned in my suggestion to Mr.Yuck, it is not recommended.
  8. That's about it. If you were envisioning something like your profile and hides disappearing from view, or your posts being deleted, that's never gonna happen around here. I have seen where they will archive your caches, so you don't have to do it one by one yourself. The disabling of an account is, in my opinion, nothing more that a fancy term for removing the ability to send you an email through your profile. Going out in a blaze of glory should take care of the things disabling can't.
  9. Is there an easy way to close out and or delete both my GC and GS Forum accounts?
  10. What the OP describes is why I got hooked on Geocaching. Sure they wheren't finds many years later, but they where good quality caches found at the end of a good hike, mtn bike ride or trek in the middle of no where.
  11. Moving on and would hate to see this turn into geojunk. The cache is located on an out of the way beach. With 2 years under it's belt, has had zero maintenance required. Based on the logs, this cache (or a cache in the area) is worth having. The cache page can be found here: http://coord.info/GC2KW0R Send me a PM if interested.
  12. Welcome to the forum and the sport/hobby. The Oregon GPS units are a great unit for starting out. A bit on the more expensive end, but well worth it. My wife and I started with the Oregon 300 back when it was first released (bought it the second week it was available). As for your daughter using it... I am pretty sure she won't have an issue using it. Depending on her abilities, you could keep it as simple as set it to compass when nearing the cache and letting her lead. If you are looking for something that she can call her own... A couple years ago I would have said look at the GeoMate Jr. It was a child specific geocaching gps that I can honestly say was kid proof. As for tips with kids... - Quick park and grab caches (at least with my boys) are not so much fun. Getting out of the car for ~2 minutes and back in is also a pain as a parent. - Avoid nanos or micro caches (we refer to them as adult treasures). No swag in them and not a whole lot of excitement for kids. - Carry plenty of swag to swap at caches. Thrift stores are great for this. My boys always love swapping treasures. A lot of the time, we end up simply moving swag around caches as they'll take something from one cache and place it in another for something else. - Always carry drink and snacks. - Have fun yourself. Geocaching is for everyone.
  13. That is becoming an issue inner city here as well.
  14. When reading the OP, I assumed the parking spot waypoint was the cache listed starting point. If I am wrong, this does raise an interesting question. To the OP, can you clarify the parking spot waypoint bit?
  15. I've had this problem a couple times with multis. In most cases, the reviewer will not give you much information as to how close you are to the point, or in what direction. The solution I have used with 50/50 success was to get in contact with the owner of the multi. Most cases they will be very helpful in assisting you and will help you locate a safe area for your cache. I said 50/50 success rate as I have run into no response when contacting the multi owners and one who insisted I complete their multi to obtain the info for myself. Most cases, the owner of the other cache will help you out.
  16. Sounds like there is a fair-size load waiting to be hung out. In any case, if I wanted a soap-opera, I'd turn on the TV. If I had 'donated' my containers to your 'geo-art', I would consider it a done deal, with no recourse on my part to recover the containers should I decide to disassociate myself from the group. Your person has apparently decided otherwise, and unless you want to storm his house to get them back, I think you should let the matter drop. I guess I took too long to finish my post. I'll save you the soap-opera. It does however appear we're all on the same page. Thanks I can understand how you could be seriously perturbed. I doubt I could keep my cool. But, naturally, the high road is the best road. Don't let the bastards get you down, and don't let them drag you down to their level. Thanks. My hands hurt from sitting on them. I've had many many times where I've nearly posted or emailed tearing into these folks and making all the crap public knowledge. Anyway...Back on Topic. It looks like the general concensis is that if the physical caches where placed/published under the group account, they belong to the group. If the cacher really neede/wanted his physical caches back, they should have informed the group instead of removing them without telling anyone. I guess lesson learned, don't assume people understand. Put it in writing before hand and have it signed. (Shame to have to say that.) Unless anyone has anything more to add to the original question, I believe the general concenses has been set. Thanks guys.
  17. Started thinking about this and how I might be able to do something similar for one of my toughest caches going out next summer. One issue I'm going to have, which you might as well is the battery in the camera. Does your camera use normal batteries? My thoughts for my situation will be that I'll use a camera (need to buy it) that will take AA batteries. I'll advise the cachers that the camera will not have batteries, and to use their own (and remove when done) to take the photos and/or view the photos on the camera. This way there is no dead battery or corroded battery issues.
  18. Have fun. I'd definitely consider placing this cache out in the bush. This should reduce the fly by night cachers and hopefully prevent a muggle from stumbling upon it. Would be a kick in the knees if it's a big hit, and the camera goes missing before you get to pull the photos. Can you post the GC for the cache once it's up? I'd love to check up on it's success.
  19. The link you provided is much closer to what I was looking for. I had written something similar on our local forum after a few folks had issues with logs posted and deleted by a pair of cachers. The article you linked is written much better than my explanation, so I'll update that post with your link. Oh, that clears things up a lot. Checking out your forum cleared up some more of the mystery. Ugh, icky situation. Best to try and rise above it, and move on. One always hopes that "situations" wouldn't arise in a small group/community. But humans are humans, no matter where or how small the community. B. That is only the tip of the ice berg. It was only made public because I was looking for some help to resolve that issue. I hurt my back pretty badly playing with my kids (being stupid, twist while lifting one of them) and haven't been able to get out. I have worked hard to keep the rest out of sight in order not to tarnish the family friendly sport. +1. +2
  20. OFF TOPIC . I believe that cache tech and cache agent are in Ontario but they review for the maritimes That makes sense. I knew cache tech was somewhat local (from Ontario) and still involved as a reviewer, but hasn't actively reviewed locally in a while. Cache tech also was the reviewer that published my cache in NS. I had just checked who the reviewer was on that cache. The link you provided is much closer to what I was looking for. I had written something similar on our local forum after a few folks had issues with logs posted and deleted by a pair of cachers. The article you linked is written much better than my explanation, so I'll update that post with your link. As for the "Messy Situation" bit.. Tried that round one, two, maybe three as well with the party involved. I will not elaborate any further here as I'm looking at other means now to put an end to things and restore the local game to the family friendly sport/hobby it once was.
  21. Sounds like there is a fair-size load waiting to be hung out. In any case, if I wanted a soap-opera, I'd turn on the TV. 22. The answer is yes and yes. I should have waited before posting the second question, but this issue has been eating at me and just keeps going. Are you bating the OP into airing dirty laundry in a public forum? Figured I would cover everyone in one quote. I can't tell you what set this person(s) off originally, but I can tell you that this is the last incident of many things done over the summer. As for airing dirty laundry... I am trying (really hard btw) to be the better person and keep these mess and their actions out of sight in our local area (and somewhat failing apparently). As much as I would really, really like to share more info... If you poke enough, you'll find the info and probably even be able to name the cacher involved. NOW, back on topic... In my opinion, if a cache is placed as part of an organization and posted/owned on the geocaching.com site, it is owned by that account. I believe that these 8 caches are no different then the large number of caches my wife and I have donnated to different groups (YMCA in Cape Bretton, London Loop team in southern ontario,Northern Ontario Geocachers LOGO, etc) over the years. Yes we paid for them, prepped and even painted some (we're pretty good at cammo painting now), but they still belong to those who hold the listing on geocaching.com. Unfortunately, in the other thread I posted earlier, no one could provide a set of "Finds" rules similar to the Hides rules. What was offered is not nearly as refined as the hides guideline and regulations.
  23. I'm already going out to replace them as soon as I can walk staight (hurt my back this week, off topic). The question is who technically owns the physical caches? This cacher stated in the NM he logged that he took them and in the somewhat nasty email I recieved this evening, it was stated that he owned the physical caches.
  24. If a group of locals create a GeoArt under a group GC account, should the container (physical cache) be owned by the group account? We have a local cacher who removed a number of the caches claiming that the group account owns the cordinates, but not physical cache.
  25. I think you may be confused on my area. We have 5 active reviewers in Ontario (Canada). 6 reviewers if Cachetech is a local, although he hasn't been reviewing any caches in the area from what I can see. I unfortunately can't really give any details on the forum. I've already received an email from the cacher in questions's counter part (long, worded and not friendly). Unfortunately because it's not through any GS servers, the email is meaningless.
