  1. Big Worm-Gear Needed in California has over 100 Finds and over 100 DNFs.
  2. This started happening within the last half hour because I viewed this page and it looked fine but I reloaded it just now and the links are mangled. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1d-5757709c8291 This now shows as: I’ve been messing with some of Bennet’s puzzles lately and the below puzzle is one I’ve considered for both "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1acae320-7a2b-49b1-b2da-edba6ade4ed2"> Apple Danish and "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=45f1810b-a835-47c8-a51f-5ae83bd18232"> Word Nerd. Thus, I thought I would share this with you and see what happens. I've verified that it's happening on other cache pages, including my own.
  3. I happened to find my 7777th in Las Vegas. No shower of geocoins came out of the cache, though.
  4. Cache of the Holy Grail is an absolutely unique experience that I consider one of the top three of the 7700 caches that I've visited in the world.

    Temp caches

Maybe it should just be a different Log type on the event cache page? I mean, 20 participation logs from the same cacher on a single CITO event is kind of weird.
  6. Any estimated time on reverting back to the old way? It's annoying not to be able to see the cache name.
  7. At least you can SEE the cache name. On my small window, the cache name is always truncated before it starts
  8. I'm not getting cache names in the page titles anymore. Now I get something like "Geocache GC12AYD in Calif..." Also the stuff that used to be at the bottom of the page ("Copyright©2000-2007 Groundspeak Inc. All Rights Reserved." and "[Main][Getting Started]...Read our Geocaching Logo Usage Guidelines...Run on 8/15/2007 10:19:37 PM PST") is now overlaying the top nav bar (obliterating whatever is between "Find a Benchmark" and "My Account"). And, of course, trying to find "log your visit" is still hidden somewhere in the middle of the page, but I've complained about that before.
  9. I think maybe if there were just an attribute for "findable by kablooey" or "not findable by kablooey" that would help me cut down my DNFs.

    Advertising

No problem, thanks for the quick action. Note that the ads still insert after the "Description written by" (which is currently commented out). I even clicked on one of the ads already (Top 10 GPS), though it went to car-based GPS. Maybe if the description is above a certain length, you could stick another ad insert between the long description and the hint.

As a cache owner, I kind of would rather have the ad appear ABOVE the short description, rather than right in the middle of MY text.

    New Site Bugs

When you click on the image link, you haven't actually gone to a new page. You have to click "close" on the bottom of the image to see the page you were on again. It isn't "Back", so that's why the back button isn't available. Sorry, it's not just linking to images. My browser only supports one page at a time, and whenever I load any new page (such as Log your visit), I can't go back to the cache detail page for some reason. It's quickly become the most annoying bug in quite some time, and I can't figure out what changed on the page to cause it (it's probably a browser bug, but I don't have the ability to change browsers).
  13. True, I think perhaps many of my almost 1500 DNFs are perhaps kind of weak. I get frustrated a lot easier than I did in the "old" days, and I start to get impatient with a cache if I haven't found one yet for the day and it's getting around 9pm or so. Even so, I think I've spent a half hour to an hour on a good portion of those DNFs, and since I don't actually have that many caches to choose from nowadays, even the ones I can't find, I know I have to go back for; so I usually try to give them a pretty good search. My longest DNF streak is only 10 days.

    New Site Bugs

Did something change that might be causing the Back button not to work? I was viewing a cache page (GCK7R5) and clicked on a link to an image on that page (pod.jpg, I think), and the image loaded, but now I can't hit Back to go back to the cache page (or in fact any GC page in my browser history). Other pages in my history seem to be okay. Strange.

    New Site Bugs

Oh, I found it. It's hidden way down the page now. Can we either have it back near the top of the page or at the bottom of the page (in the old days there was a text link) for access-challenged people so that it doesn't take forever to scroll and find?

    New Site Bugs

I guess I can live without the map showing now, but can I at least have "Log a visit" back? Please?
  17. The site used to support SQL "LIKE" queries, but I notice that has changed recently. Probably to reduce the query load on the Sql server. Of course, it would probably be smarter to notice the Sql % wildcard and just use LIKE in those cases. Unfortunately, now it's really hard to search for certain cache names when you can't remember exactly how the title is worded, especially when the site sometimes allows people to inadvertantly name their caches with accidental doubled spaces, for example.
  18. Any chance you can fix the code so that it doesn't require Javascript when I click "View cache"? My phone does support Javascript, but I have it turned off because www.geocaching.com has Javascript problems when viewing caches. But when I try to use wap.geocaching.com, it won't let me view caches because it wants Javascript to be reenabled.

  20. I'm a terrible finder. I'm even worse as a hider. I mostly cache alone, but mostly because I'm too anti-social to ask for caching buddies. I prefer not to cache where there are lots of muggles; so I cache a lot at night, in the rain, or on long desolate hikes. I don't like making phone calls; so I just log DNFs rather than call for hints. I get frustrated when I can't find a cache. I get more frustrated when the cache is rated 1 or 1.5 stars. I try to log my finds within a couple minutes of finding (or not finding) the cache. I don't log all my DNFs. Sometimes I log Notes instead. Maybe I would have more DNFs than Geo Dee if I had a more liberal definition of DNF. But I am not sure that I want to be the World Leader in DNFs again. It makes me feel good to CITO, but often I won't pick up trash if I'm frustrated by a cache I can't find. I've been known to drive over a thousand miles to attend a CITO event. I try to be tolerant of the way other people play the game, but sometimes I will mock and deride the cheaters, even though I know I am not completely innocent of breaking my own moral standards. I solve the coordinates for puzzles (or otherwise brute-force their locations) before logging Finds, and there are still caches that I have visited (but not yet solved) for which I have only logged Notes thus far. I won't log a TB or geocoin unless I pick it up and move it to another cache. I trade down (in my mind) more often than I would like to admit. I try to make up for it in future trades. I try not to hide any new caches unless all my existing caches are in working order. I want people to find my caches; so I feel bad if somebody DNFs one of mine. I willingly provide hints to any of my puzzles, though I may lead you along slowly a step at a time. I will not log a Find on a cache I have hidden, even if I was only a co-hider and the cache is listed by another owner. I do not log events that I have planned. I will not log a Find on a cache that is located in the same place as an archived cache by the same owner (and I am amazed how often this happens). I will log a Find on the same cache that has been relocated by the owner if the cache page explicitly permits it. My day starts when I wake up and ends when I fall asleep. During that day, I always find at least one cache (at least, that has been the case for three and a half years). I try to make that find before midnight, but on a couple of occasions I've had to bend that rule to midnight Standard time. I'm sure I could come up with a lot more, but that's enough for now.
  21. Maybe? We have a cacher in my area with 1500 documented DNF's Geo Dee This post brought to you by the letters A thru Z Geo Dee has been known to log a fake DNF.
  22. There are a couple of people who have logged multiple finds on the same cache. I haven't adjusted the script to ignore the duplicates yet. 25. A quick update.
