  1. We've had several Magellans and are happy with those. They have data screens for fishing and probably hunting but I don't use any of that. The mapping software imports maps right into your unit-- it's useful but pricey and unless there's a new version out, it's a little dated. That's about all I know about GPS's except that you are going to have a great time no matter what you get.
  2. Thanks, everyone, for all the good information! I've pretty much still got the phone/PDA combo ruled out, the 2nd big reason being the price of the plan. But now I know what I need to in order to go get a decent PDA.
  3. Huh. I didn't know about the Wap site, but that works pretty slick. Sadly, I am used to dial up, so it doesn't take much to make me happy.
  4. Thank you. I could live with a cable. So basically any Bluetooth PDA would be good, you think?
  5. Hey, thanks. So you use it to access gc.com? And it works well? I could use my cell phone but can't see enough of the screen to stay sane. Also, the cell phone doesn't like to click some buttons, like the one after I enter the zip code to search on, so that doesn't work too well. No problems like that with the Treo?
  6. [There's a nag which requires you to install the CD each time you use the program, but that can be "fixed."] Please, please tell me how to fix it. I live in fear that I'll scratch or lose the disk and at $150 or whatever it was I paid for it, that's a very unpleasant prospect.
  7. What I really want is a PDA that will connect to the internet (& geocaching.com) the way my cell phone does. That doesn't appear to be available, unless I go to a phone/PDA combo which I don't like mainly because of the smaller size of the screen. I have a cell phone with blue tooth and I understand this can be used as a modem with some PDAs. Accessing geocaching.com from the field isn't really a priority, since I can load the records on ahead of time, but there are always those times you wish you could log on (or log your finds) and since I'm upgrading now, figure I might as well go for it all. So-- anyone out there found the solution? Or know what NOT to get?
  8. Thanks, Motley Crew & Clyde for the quick answers. I have a Palm, CacheMate sounds excellent. I'm already a premium member, so *.gpx isn't a problem.
  9. What's this Tadpole stuff? I thought the tadpole was supposed to go away when I became a premium member. Please tell me I don't have to post 5 more mindless emails to lose it.
  10. Thanks, Clyde, for what is undoubtedly the most useful pieces of software I've ever used. A couple of weeks ago, I made it through 7 of 10 pages on this posting. Now, I need to know what I have to do to export data to a PDA. I know it's in the thread somewhere (checked the help index, didn't find it) but I just don't have the heart to get through all 13 pages. Help me please, someone? Is there a program I have to download to use *.gpx or *.loc files on a PDA? TIA
  11. I picked a tb out of a cache today. Can't log it, the page comes up missing. Is this a common problem? Last log for this bug was 12-30 so the owner shouldn't have given up on it quite yet, even though it's a very cute little bear. I really didn't want to take it because I can't help it move very far, but it didn't fit in the cache so taking it was really a rescue mission. I've been reading about TBs going missing though and would like to log this one so his owner doesn't worry.
  12. yeah, yeah yeah. Already found my mistake. Sorry. [bowing respectfully as I back out of the room]
  13. The person that originated this thread had one find. Newbie that I am, it still looks to me like Algeocatcher, who said 'as long as I need' has 250 finds.
